Châm Ngôn 22
1 Danh thơm tiếng tốt hơn giàu có; còn ân huệ quý hơn bạc vàng.
A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches; And better is good-will than silver and gold.
2 Chúa Hằng Hữu tạo nên người nghèo lẫn người giàu, dưới mắt Ngài, họ chẳng khác gì nhau.
The rich and the poor meet together; The LORD is the Maker of them all.
3 Người khôn tránh né nguy nan. Người dại đâm đầu hướng tới họa tai.
The prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple rush on, and are punished.
4 Ai kính sợ Chúa Hằng Hữu và khiêm nhường được hưởng danh dự, công lý, và trường thọ.
By humility and the fear of the LORD Are riches and honor and life.
5 Trên đường người gian tà đầy gai góc và cạm bẫy; người muốn giữ hồn mình phải tránh cho xa.
Thorns and snares are in the way of the deceitful; He that will preserve his life will be far from them.
6 Dạy trẻ thơ nẻo chính đường ngay, cho dù đến già, nó chẳng đổi thay.
Train up a child in accordance with his way, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
7 Giàu cai trị nghèo, người vay làm nô lệ cho người cho vay.
The rich ruleth over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.
8 Người gieo bất công sẽ gặt tai họa, cây gậy thịnh nộ của nó chắc sẽ tiêu tan.
He who soweth iniquity shall reap calamity, And the rod of his punishment is prepared.
9 Ai rộng lòng nuôi dưỡng người cơ cực sẽ luôn hưởng được nhiều phước dồi dào.
He who hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed, Because he giveth of his bread to the poor.
10 Đuổi người kiêu cường đi, xung đột sẽ dứt. Cũng không còn những tiếng cãi cọ xấu xa.
Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out; Yea, strife and reproach will cease.
11 Lòng trong sạch, môi thanh nhã, đức tính ấy, làm bạn của vua.
He who loveth purity of heart, Grace is upon his lips, and the king will be his friend.
12 Chúa Hằng Hữu bảo vệ người thông sáng, người dối gian bị Chúa tảo trừ.
The eyes of the LORD watch over knowledge; But he overthroweth the words of the treacherous.
13 Người lười nói: “Sư tử ngoài kia! Nếu ra ngoài, ta sẽ bị giết!”
The slothful man saith, “There is a lion without; I shall be slain in the streets.”
14 Miệng dâm phụ là cái hố sâu; chôn vùi người Chúa Hằng Hữu nguyền rủa.
The mouth of strange women is a deep pit; He with whom the LORD is angry shall fall therein.
15 Nghiêm trị, răn dạy trẻ thơ, giải thoát lòng chúng khỏi điều khờ dại.
Folly is bound to the heart of a child; But the rod of correction will drive it far from him.
16 Làm giàu bằng cách bóc lột người nghèo hay bằng hối lộ, đều đưa đến túng thiếu cơ hàn.
He that oppresseth the poor to increase his wealth, And he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17 Con lắng tai nghe lời khôn sáng; mở lòng con đón nhận tri thức ta.
Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, And give heed to my instruction!
18 Con sẽ vui thích khi giữ nó trong lòng, và tập trung nó trên đôi môi con.
For it will be a pleasant thing, if thou keep them in thy bosom, When they are altogether established upon thy lips.
19 Ngày nay ta đã dạy cho con biết điều đó, để con đặt hết niềm tin vào Chúa Hằng Hữu.
That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have this day given to thee instruction, yea, to thee.
20 Ta há chẳng viết cho con ba mươi lần, trình bày lời khuyên dạy và tri thức.
Behold, I have written to thee excellent things Concerning counsel and knowledge;
21 Để con tiếp nhận lời chân thật, và đem lời đó về cho người sai phái con.
That I may make thee know rectitude, and words of truth; That thou mayst bring back words of truth to them that send thee.
22 Đừng bóc lột người nghèo vì họ túng quẫn, cũng đừng áp bức người khốn khổ nơi tòa.
Rob not the poor man, because he is poor, Nor crush thou the destitute at the gate;
23 Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ đứng ra bênh vực. Ngài sẽ diệt trừ những ai ức hiếp họ.
For the LORD will maintain their cause, And despoil their spoilers of life.
24 Thấy ai giận, con đừng phụ họa, khi người nổi nóng, con đừng tiếp tay,
Make no friendship with a passionate man, Nor be the companion of a man prone to wrath;
25 để con khỏi học tính nóng nảy và làm hại cho linh hồn con.
Lest thou learn his ways, And take to thyself a snare.
26 Chớ như người ra tay bảo đảm hoặc bảo lãnh nợ cho ai.
Be not thou one of those who strike hands, Of those who are sureties for debts.
27 Vì nếu con không có gì để trả thì chủ nợ sẽ xiết cả đến cái giường của con.
When thou hast nothing to pay, Why should thy bed be taken from under thee?
28 Chớ dời ranh giới cũ do tổ phụ thiết lập.
Remove not the ancient landmark, Which thy fathers have made.
29 Con có thấy người nào cần mẫn trong việc mình không? Người ấy sẽ phục vụ trước các vua, chứ không phải trước người tầm thường đâu.
Seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall be the minister of kings; He shall not serve obscure men.
