1 Ɔbonsam sɔre tiaa Israel, maa Dawid kan Israelfo.
And Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel.
2 Dawid hyɛɛ Yoab ne nʼasahene sɛ, “Monkan nnipa a wɔwɔ asase yi so nyinaa efi Beer-Seba a ɛwɔ anafo fam kosi Dan a ɛwɔ atifi fam, na momfa wɔn dodow mmrɛ me, na ɛmma minhu wɔn ano.”
And David said to Joab and to the princes of the people, Go, number Israel from Beer-sheba even to Dan; and bring me word, that I may know the sum of them.
3 Na Yoab kae se, “Awurade mmɔ ne nkurɔfo no dodow ho mpɛn ɔha ɔha! Na me wura, adɛn nti na wopɛ sɛ woyɛ saa? Wɔn nyinaa nyɛ wʼasomfo ana? Adɛn nti na ɛsɛ sɛ woyɛ ma Israel yɛ bɔne?”
And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord’s servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel?
4 Nanso ɔhene no kae se, nea ɛte biara ɛsɛ sɛ Yoab kan nnipa no. Enti Yoab kyinkyinii Israel nyinaa kan nnipa no. Na ɔsan baa Yerusalem
Nevertheless the king’s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem.
5 bɛkaa nnipa no dodow kyerɛɛ Dawid. Na wɔn dodow yɛ mmarima ɔpepem baako ne mpem ɔha a wɔaso ɔsakɔ wɔ Israel ne mpem ahannan aduɔson wɔ Yuda.
And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.
6 Nanso Yoab amfa Lewi ne Benyamin mmusuakuw anka nnipakan no ho, efisɛ na nea ɔhene ahyɛ no sɛ ɔnyɛ no yɛ no ahometew.
But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them; for the king’s word was abominable to Joab.
7 Onyankopɔn ampɛ nnipakan no koraa, enti ɔtwee Israel aso wɔ ho.
And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel.
8 Na Dawid ka kyerɛɛ Onyankopɔn se, “Mayɛ bɔne kɛse. Anka ɛnsɛ sɛ mekan nnipa no. Mesrɛ wo, fa me nkwaseade a mayɛ no kyɛ me.”
And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing: but now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.
9 Na Awurade kasa kyerɛɛ Gad a ɔyɛ Dawid ɔdehufo no se,
And Jehovah spake unto Gad, David’s seer, saying,
10 “Kɔ na kɔka kyerɛ Dawid se, ‘Sɛnea Awurade se ni: Merema wo nsɛm ahorow abiɛsa. Paw emu baako na menyɛ ntia wo.’”
Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.
11 Enti Gad baa Dawid nkyɛn bɛkae se, “Sɛnea Awurade se ni: ‘Paw emu nea wopɛ:
So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Take which thou wilt:
12 mfe abiɛsa a ɔkɔm kɛse bɛba anaa asram abiɛsa a wʼatamfo bekunkum mo anaa nnansa a ɔyaredɔm a ano yɛ den yiye a, Awurade bɔfo nam so de ɔsɛe bɛba Israel asase so.’ Afei dwene eyi ho, na ma minhu mmuae ko a memfa nkɔma Awurade.”
either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.
13 Dawid buaa Gad se, “Mewɔ ahohiahia mu. Ma mentɔ Awurade nsam, efisɛ nʼahummɔbɔ no so. Mma me nkɔtɔ nnipa nsam.”
And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah; for very great are his mercies: and let me not fall into the hand of man.
14 Na Awurade maa ɔyaredɔm baa Israel so, maa nnipa mpem aduɔson wuwui.
So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.
15 Afei, Onyankopɔn somaa ɔsoro ɔbɔfo sɛ ɔnkɔsɛe Yerusalem. Na bɔfo no reyɛ no, Awurade nyaa ahummɔbɔ ka kyerɛɛ owu ɔbɔfo no se, “Gyae! Ɛno ara dɔɔso!” Saa bere no na ɔbɔfo no gyina Yebusini Arauna awiporowbea hɔ.
And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
16 Dawid pagyaw nʼani huu sɛ Awurade bɔfo no gyina ɔsoro ne asase ntam a, watwe nʼafoa de akyerɛ Yerusalem so. Enti Dawid ne Israel mpanyimfo furaa atweaatam de kyerɛɛ wɔn ahoyeraw, na wɔhwehwee fam de wɔn anim butubutuw hɔ.
And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 Na Dawid ka kyerɛɛ Onyankopɔn se, “Me na mede nnipakan no ho asɛm bae! Me ne obi a mayɛ bɔne na mafom. Saa nkurɔfo yi de, ɛso bi nna wɔn so. Dɛn na wɔayɛ? Awurade me Nyankopɔn, ma wʼabufuw mmra me ne me fifo so, na nsɛe wo nkurɔfo.”
And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father’s house; but not against thy people, that they should be plagued.
18 Na Awurade bɔfo no ka kyerɛɛ Gad se ɔnka nkyerɛ Dawid mma onsi afɔremuka mma Awurade wɔ Yebusini Arauna awiporowbea hɔ.
Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
19 Na Dawid yɛɛ nea Awurade nam Gad so ka kyerɛɛ no no.
And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Jehovah.
20 Arauna a saa bere no na nʼani abere reporow nʼatoko so no dan ne ho huu ɔbɔfo no wɔ hɔ. Ne mmabarima baanan a na wɔka ne ho wɔ hɔ no guan kohintawee.
And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat.
21 Bere a Arauna huu sɛ ɔhene Dawid reba awiporowbea hɔ no, ofi hɔ kɔkotow nʼanim.
And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground.
22 Na Dawid ka kyerɛɛ Arauna se, “Tɔn awiporowbea yi ma me sɛnea ne bo te. Na mesi afɔremuka ama Awurade wɔ hɔ sɛnea obesiw ɔyaredɔm no ano.”
Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto Jehovah: for the full price shalt thou give it me, that the plague may be stayed from the people.
23 Arauna ka kyerɛɛ Dawid se, “Fa, me wura, na fa yɛ nea wopɛ. Anantwi a wode bɛbɔ afɔre ni. Wubetumi de awiporowbea nnua yi ayɛ nnyina de asɔ gya wɔ afɔremuka no so. Fa atoko no nso bɔ atoko afɔre. Mede ne nyinaa bɛma wo.”
And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all.
24 Na ɔhene no buaa Arauna se, “Dabi! Mepɛ sɛ mitua nea ɛfata ma wo. Merentumi nnye wʼagyapade mfa mma Awurade. Meremmɔ ɔhyew afɔre a memmɔɔ ho ka.”
And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost.
25 Enti Dawid tuaa sikakɔkɔɔ kilogram ason maa Arauna, de tɔɔ awiporowbea no.
So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight.
26 Dawid sii afɔremuka wɔ hɔ maa Awurade, bɔɔ ɔhyew afɔre ne asomdwoe afɔre wɔ so. Na Dawid bɔɔ mpae no, Awurade tiee no, nam so de ogya fi soro bɛhyew afɔrebɔde a ɛwɔ afɔremuka no so no.
And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering.
27 Afei, Awurade kasa kyerɛɛ ɔbɔfo no ma ɔsan de nʼafoa no hyɛɛ ne boha mu.
And Jehovah commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
28 Bere a Dawid huu sɛ Awurade atie ne mpaebɔ no, ɔbɔɔ afɔre pii wɔ Yebusini Arauna awiporowbea hɔ.
At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there.
29 Saa bere no na Awurade Ahyiae Ntamadan ne afɔremuka a Mose sii wɔ sare so hɔ no sisi Gibeon sorɔnsorɔmmea hɔ.
For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.
30 Nanso Dawid antumi ankɔ hɔ ankobisa Onyankopɔn ase, efisɛ afoa a Awurade bɔfo no twee no bɔɔ no hu.
But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah.
