1 İsa Mesih'in kulu ve elçisi ben Simun Petrus'tan Tanrımız ve Kurtarıcımız İsa Mesih'in doğruluğu sayesinde bizimkiyle eşdeğer bir imana kavuşmuş olanlara selam!
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us, in the righteousness of our God, and of our saviour Jesus Christ:
2 Tanrı'yı ve Rabbimiz İsa'yı tanımakla lütuf ve esenlik artan ölçüde sizin olsun.
grace and peace be multiplied unto you, in the acknowledgement of God, and of Jesus our Lord;
3 Kendi yüceliği ve erdemiyle bizi çağıranın tanrısal gücü, kendisini tanımamız sonucunda yaşamamız ve Tanrı yolunda yürümemiz için gereken her şeyi bize verdi.
as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who hath called us by that glory and virtue,
4 O'nun yüceliği ve erdemi sayesinde bize çok büyük ve değerli vaatler verildi. Öyle ki, dünyada kötü arzuların yol açtığı yozlaşmadan kurtulmuş olarak, bu vaatler aracılığıyla tanrısal özyapıya ortak olasınız.
by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 İşte bu nedenle her türlü gayreti göstererek imanınıza erdemi, erdeminize bilgiyi, bilginize özdenetimi, özdenetiminize dayanma gücünü, dayanma gücünüze Tanrı yoluna bağlılığı, bağlılığınıza kardeşseverliği, kardeşseverliğinize sevgiyi katın.
And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude;
and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety;
and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity.
8 Çünkü bu niteliklere artan ölçüde sahip olursanız, Rabbimiz İsa Mesih'i tanımakta etkisiz ve verimsiz olmazsınız.
For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 Bu niteliklere sahip olmayan uzağı göremez, kördür. Eski günahlarından temizlendiğini unutmuştur.
But he, that hath not these, is blind, or short-sighted, having forgot his baptismal purification from his former sins.
10 Bunun için, ey kardeşler, çağrılmışlığınızı ve seçilmişliğinizi kökleştirmeye daha çok gayret edin. Bunları yaparsanız, hiçbir zaman tökezlemezsiniz.
Wherefore, my brethren, be the more diligent thus to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things ye shall never fall.
11 Böylece Rabbimiz ve Kurtarıcımız İsa Mesih'in sonsuz egemenliğine girme hakkı size cömertçe sağlanacaktır. (aiōnios g166)
For so an entrance shall be administered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. (aiōnios g166)
12 Onun için, her ne kadar bunları biliyorsanız ve sahip olduğunuz gerçekle pekiştirilmişseniz de, bunları size her zaman anımsatacağım.
Wherefore I will not neglect to put you always in mind of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the present truth.

And I think it my duty, while I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by way of remembrance:
14 Rabbimiz İsa Mesih'in bana bildirdiği gibi, bedenden ayrılışımın yakın olduğunu biliyorum.
knowing that I must soon lay down this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
15 Ben bu dünyadan göçtükten sonra da bunları sürekli anımsayabilmeniz için şimdi her gayreti göstereceğim.
And I will endeavour that after my departure also ye may always be able to call these things to remembrance.
16 Rabbimiz İsa Mesih'in kudretini ve gelişini size bildirirken uydurma masallara başvurmadık. O'nun görkemini gözlerimizle gördük.
For we did not follow artfully devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; but were eye-witnesses of his majesty.
17 Mesih, yüce ve görkemli Olan'dan kendisine ulaşan sesle, “Sevgili Oğlum budur, O'ndan hoşnudum” diyen sesle Baba Tanrı'dan onur ve yücelik aldı.
For He received from God the Father honor and glory when a voice came to Him from the magnificent glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
18 Kutsal dağda O'nunla birlikte bulunduğumuz için gökten gelen bu sesi biz de işittik.
And this voice, from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.
19 Peygamberlerin sözleri bizim için daha büyük kesinlik kazandı. Gün ağarıp sabah yıldızı yüreklerinizde doğuncaya dek, karanlık yerde ışık saçan çıraya benzeyen bu sözlere kulak verirseniz, iyi edersiniz.
We have also the more sure word of the prophets, to which ye do well to attend, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, till the day dawn, and the morning-star rise in your hearts:
20 Öncelikle şunu bilin ki, Kutsal Yazılar'daki hiçbir peygamberlik sözü kimsenin özel yorumu değildir.
knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation;
21 Çünkü hiçbir peygamberlik sözü insan isteğinden kaynaklanmadı. Kutsal Ruh tarafından yöneltilen insanlar Tanrı'nın sözlerini ilettiler.
for prophecy was not delivered of old at the will of man, but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the holy Spirit.
