அப்போஸ்தலர் 6
1 ௧ அந்த நாட்களிலே, சீடர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகமானபோது, கிரேக்கர்களானவர்கள், தங்களுடைய விதவைகள் அன்றாட பராமரிப்பில் சரியாக பராமரிக்கப்படவில்லையென்று, எபிரெயர்களுக்கு விரோதமாக முறுமுறுத்தார்கள்.
About this time, when the number of the disciples was constantly increasing, complaints were made by the Jews of foreign birth against the native Jews, that their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution.
2 ௨ அப்பொழுது பன்னிரண்டு சீடர்களும் மற்ற சீடர்கள் கூட்டத்தை வரவழைத்து: நாங்கள் தேவவசனத்தைப் போதிக்காமல், பந்திவிசாரிப்பு செய்வது தகுதியல்ல.
The Twelve, therefore, called together the general body of the disciples and said to them: “It is not well for us to see to the distribution at the tables and neglect God’s Message.
3 ௩ ஆதலால் சகோதரர்களே, பரிசுத்த ஆவியும், ஞானமும், நற்சாட்சியும் பெற்றிருக்கிற ஏழுபேரை உங்களில் தெரிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்; அவர்களை இந்த வேலைக்காக நியமிப்போம்.
Therefore, Brothers, look for seven men of reputation among yourselves, wise and spiritually-minded men, and we will appoint them to attend to this matter;
4 ௪ நாங்களோ ஜெபம்பண்ணுவதிலும் தேவவசனத்தைப் போதிப்பதிலும் இடைவிடாமல் உறுதியாகத் தரித்திருப்போம் என்றார்கள்.
while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to Prayer, and to the delivery of the Message.”
5 ௫ இந்த யோசனை சபையாரெல்லோருக்கும் பிரியமாக இருந்தது. அப்பொழுது விசுவாசமும் பரிசுத்த ஆவியும் நிறைந்தவனாகிய ஸ்தேவானையும், பிலிப்பையும், பிரொகோரையும், நிக்கானோரையும், தீமோனையும், பர்மெனாவையும், யூத மதத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவனான அந்தியோகியா பட்டணத்தானாகிய நிக்கொலாவையும் தெரிந்துகொண்டு,
This proposal was unanimously agreed to; and the disciples chose Stephen — a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit — and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, a former convert to Judaism;
6 ௬ அவர்களை அப்போஸ்தலர்களுக்கு முன்பாக நிறுத்தினார்கள். இவர்கள் ஜெபம்பண்ணி, அவர்கள்மேல் கரங்களை வைத்தார்கள்.
and they brought these men to the Apostles, who, after praying, placed their hands on them.
7 ௭ தேவவசனம் அதிகமாகப் பரவியது; சீடருடைய எண்ணிக்கை எருசலேமில் மிகவும் பெருகியது; ஆசாரியர்களில் அநேகர் விசுவாசத்திற்குக் கீழ்ப்படிந்தார்கள்.
So God’s Message spread, and the number of the disciples continued to increase rapidly in Jerusalem, and a large body of the priests accepted the Faith.
8 ௮ ஸ்தேவான் விசுவாசத்தினாலும் வல்லமையினாலும் நிறைந்தவனாக மக்களுக்குள்ளே பெரிய அற்புதங்களையும் அடையாளங்களையும் செய்தான்.
Meanwhile Stephen, divinely helped and strengthened, was showing great wonders and signs among the people.
9 ௯ அப்பொழுது லிபர்த்தீனர் என்னப்பட்டவர்களின் ஆலயத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்களிலும், சிரேனே பட்டணத்தாரிலும், அலெக்சந்திரியா பட்டணத்தாரிலும், சிலிசியா நாட்டாரிலும், ஆசியா தேசத்தாரிலும் சிலர் எழும்பி, ஸ்தேவானோடு வாக்குவாதம்பண்ணினார்கள்.
But some members of the Synagogue known as that of Libertines, Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and Visitors from Cilicia and Roman Asia, were roused to action and began disputing with Stephen;
yet they were quite unable to withstand the wisdom and the inspiration with which he spoke.
11 ௧௧ அப்பொழுது அவர்கள்: மோசேக்கும் தேவனுக்கும் எதிராக இவன் அவதூறான வார்த்தைகளைப் பேசுவதைக் கேட்டோம் என்று சொல்லச்சொல்லி மனிதர்களைத் தூண்டிவிட்டு;
Then they induced some men to assert that they had heard Stephen saying blasphemous things against Moses, and against God;
12 ௧௨ மக்களையும் மூப்பர்களையும் வேதபண்டிதரையும் ஏவி; அவன்மேல் பாய்ந்து, அவனைப் பிடித்து, ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தினர்களுக்கு முன்பாக இழுத்துக்கொண்டுபோய்;
and they stirred up the people, as well as the Councillors and the Teachers of the Law, and set upon Stephen, and arrested him, and brought him before the High Council.
13 ௧௩ பொய்ச்சாட்சிகளையும் நிறுத்தினார்கள். இவர்கள்: இந்த மனிதன் இந்தப் பரிசுத்த இடத்திற்கும் வேதப்பிரமாணத்திற்கும் எதிராக அவதூறான வார்த்தைகளையே எப்பொழுதும் பேசுகிறான்;
There they produced witnesses who gave false evidence. “This man,” they said, “is incessantly saying things against this Holy Place and the Law;
14 ௧௪ எப்படியென்றால், நசரேயனாகிய அந்த இயேசு இந்த இடத்தை அழித்துப்போட்டு, மோசே நமக்குக் கொடுத்த வழக்கங்களை மாற்றுவானென்று இவன் சொல்வதைக் கேட்டோம் என்றார்கள்.
indeed, we have heard him declare that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this Place, and change the customs handed down to us by Moses.”
15 ௧௫ ஆலோசனைச் சங்கத்தில் உட்கார்ந்திருந்த அனைவரும் அவனை உற்றுப்பார்த்து, அவனுடைய முகம் தேவதூதனுடைய முகத்தைப்போல இருப்பதைக் கண்டார்கள்.
The eyes of all the members of the Council were riveted upon Stephen, and they saw his face looking like the face of an angel.
