1 BWANA akanena na Musa kwenye nyanda za Moabu karibu na Yorodani kule Yeriko akasema,

And the Lord spake vnto Moses in the plaine of Moab by Iorden, toward Iericho, saying,

2 “Waamuru watu wa Israeli kutoa sehemu ya urithi wa ardhi yao kwa Walawi. Watawapa miji ya kuishi ndani yake na eneo la malisho kuzunguka miji hiyo.

Commande ye children of Israel, that they giue vnto the Leuites of the inheritace of their possession, cities to dwell in: yee shall giue also vnto the Leuites the suburbes of the cities round about them.

3 Walawi watakuwa na miji hiyo ya kuishi. Eneo la malisho litakuwa kwa ajili ya ng'ombe zao, kondoo zao, na wanyama wao wote.

So they shall haue the cities to dwell in, and their suburbes shall be for their cattell, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.

4 Hayo malisho yatakayozunguka miji hiyo ambayo mtawapa Walawi yataanzia kwenye maboma kwa ukubwa wa “mita 457” kila upande.

And the suburbes of the cities, which ye shall giue vnto the Leuites, from the wall of the citie outward, shalbe a thousand cubites round about.

5 Utapima dhiraa elfu mbili kutoka nje ya mji kuelekea mashariki, na dhiraa elfu mbili kuelekea kusini, na dhiraa elfu mbili kuelekea upande wa magharibi, na dhiraa elfu mbilii kuelekea upandewa kaskazini. Haya yatakuwa maeneo ya malisho yao. Miji itakuwa katikati.

And yee shall measure without the citie of the Eastside, two thousand cubites: and of the Southside, two thousand cubites: and of the Westside, two thousand cubites: and of ye Northside, two thousand cubites: and the citie shalbe in ye middes. this shalbe the measure of the suburbes of their cities.

6 Katika hiyo miji sita mtakayowapatia Walawi itatumika kama miji ya ukimbizi. Mtatoa maeneo haya ili kama mtu ameua mtu apate mahali pa kukimbilia. Pia mtatoa miji mingine arobaini na mbli.

And of the cities which yee shall giue vnto the Leuites, there shalbe sixe cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: and to them yee shall adde two and fourtie cities more.

7 Jumla ya miji ambyo mtawapa Walawi itakuwa arobaini na nane. Mtawapa hiyo miji pamoja na maeneo yao ya malisho.

All the cities which yee shall giue to the Leuites, shalbe eight and fourtie cities: them shall ye giue with their suburbes.

8 Zile kabila kubwa za watu wa Israeli, kabila ambalo lina ardhi zaidi, watatoa ardhi zaidi. Makabila madogo madogo watatoa miji michache. Kila kabila lazima watoe kwa ajili ya Walawi kwa kufuata mgawo waliopata.”

And concerning the cities which yee shall giue, of the possession of the children of Israel: of many ye shall take more, and of few ye shall take lesse: euery one shall giue of his cities vnto the Leuites, according to his inheritance, which hee inheriteth.

9 Kisha BWANA akanena na Musa akamwambia,

And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,

10 “Sema na wana wa Israeli na uwaambie, 'Mtakapovuka Yorodani kuingia Kanaani,

Speake vnto the children of Israel, and say vnto them, When ye be come ouer Iorden into the land of Canaan,

11 Kisha mchague miji itakayotumika kama miji ya ukimbizi kwa, ajili yenu, mahali ambapo mtu aliyeua mtu pasipo kukusudia anaweza kukimbilia.

Ye shall appoint you cities, to bee cities of refuge for you, that the slayer, which slayeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.

12 Hii miji itakuwa kwenu miji ya ukimbizi kwa mtu anayetaka kulipa kisasi. ili kwamba mtuhumiwa asije akauawa bila kwanza kusikilizwa na jamii.

And these cities shalbe for you a refuge from the auenger, that he which killeth, die not, vntill he stand before the Congregation in iudgement.

13 Mtachagua miji sita kuwa miji ya ukimbizi.

And of the cities which ye shall giue, sixe cities shall ye haue for refuge.

14 Mtatoa miji mitatu kule ng'ambo ya Yorodani na miji mitatu huko Kanaani. Itakuwa miji ya ukimbizi.

Ye shall appoint three on this side Iorden, and ye shall appoint three cities in the lande of Canaan which shalbe cities of refuge.

15 Kwa ajili ya watu wa Israeli, wageni, kwa, yeyote anayeishi kati yenu, hii miji sita itatumika kama miji ya ukimbizi kwa mtu yeyote atakayeua mtu bila kukusudia anaweza kukimbila.

These six cities shalbe a refuge for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for him that dwelleth among you, that euery one which killeth any person vnwares, may flee thither.

16 Lakini kama mtuhumiwa amempiga mtu na chombo cha chuma, na huyo mtu akafa, basi kwa hakika yule mtuhumiwa ni muuaji. Kwa hiyo anatakiwa kuuawa.

And if one smite another with an instrument of yron that hee die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

17 Kama yule mtuhumiwa amempiga mtu kwa jiwe mkonono mwake ambalo linaweza kumwua mtu, na kama yule mtu atakufa, basi hakika huyo mtuhumiwa ni mwuaji. Kwa hakika anatakiwa kuuawa.

Also if hee smite him by casting a stone, wherewith hee may be slaine, and he die, hee is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

18 Kama mtuhumiwa amempiga mtu kwa silaha ya mti ambayo inaweza kuua mtu na kama huyo mtu atakufa, basi kwa hakika huyo mtuhumiwa ni mwuaji. kwa hakika huyo anataikwa kuuawa.

Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may be slaine, if he die, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer shall die the death.

19 Mwenye kulipa kisasi cha damu ndiye atakayemwua mwuaji. atkapokutana naye, anaweza kumwua.

The reuenger of the blood himselfe shall slay the murtherer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.

20 Lakini kama yule mtuhumiwa atamshinda mtu yeyote yule anayemchukia au kama atamtupia kitu, wakati akimvizia, kiasi kwamba huyo mtu akafa,

But if hee thrust him of hate, or hurle at him by laying of wait, that he die,

21 au kama atampiga ngumi kwa chuki na mtu huyo akafa, ndipo yule mtuhumiwa aliyempiga hakika atauawa. Yeye ni mwuaji. Yule mlipa kisasi cha damu anaweza kumwua muuaji pale atakapokutana naye.

Or smite him through enimitie with his hand, that he die, he that smote him shall die ye death: for hee is a murtherer: the reuenger of the blood shall slay the murtherer when he meeteth him.

22 Lakini kama mtuhumiwa atampiga mtu ghafla bila kuwa na chuki hapo awali, au kama atamtupia kitu ambacho kitampiga mtu bila kumvizia

But if he pusshed him vnaduisedly, and not of hatred, or cast vpon him any thing, without laying of waite,

23 au kama atatupa jiwe amabalo linaweza kumwua mtu bila kumwona, basi huyo mtu hakua adui yake, hakukusudia kumwumiza huyo mtu. Basi hiki ndicho kitachofanywa kama mtu huyo atakufa.

Or any stone (whereby he might be slaine) and sawe him not, or caused it to fall vpon him, and he die, and was not his enemie, neither sought him any harme,

24 Kwa tatizo la jinsi hiyo, Watu wataamua kati ya mlipa kisasi na mtuhumiwa kwa kufuata taratibu zifuatazo.

Then the Congregation shall iudge betweene the slayer and the auenger of blood according to these lawes.

25 Watu watamwokoa mtuhumiwa kutoka kwenye nguvu za mlipa kisasi cha damu. Watu watamrudisha mtuhumiwa katika mji wa ukimbizi ambao hapo awali alikimbilia. Ataishi pale mpaka yule kuhani anayetumikia atakapokufa, ambaye alipakwa mafuta matakatifu.

And the Congregation shall deliuer the slayer out of the hande of the auenger of blood, and the Congregation shall restore him vnto the citie of his refuge, whither hee was fled: and hee shall abide there vnto the death of the hie Priest, which is anointed with the holy oyle.

26 Lakini kama yule mtuhumiwa muda fulani ataenda nje ya mipaka ya mji a ukimbizi ambao alikimbilia,

But if the slayer come without the borders of the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled,

27 na kama yule mlipa kisasi cha damu atamwona nje ya mipaka ya mji wake wa ukimbizi, kama atamwua huyo mtuhumiwa, mlipa kisasi cha damu hatakuwa na hatia ya mauaji hayo.

And the reuenger of blood finde him without the borders of the citie of his refuge, and the reueger of blood slay ye murtherer, he shalbe giltles,

28 Hii ni kwa sababu yule mtuhumiwa alitakiwa kubaki katika mji wake wa ukimbizi mpaka kuhani mkuu atakapokufa. Baada ya kifo cha kuhani mkuu, yule mtuhumiwa atarejea kwenye nchi yake ambako kuna mali yake.

Because he should haue remained in the citie of his refuge, vntill the death of the hie Priest: and after the death of the hie Priest, the slayer shall returne vnto the land of his possession.

29 Hizi amri zitakuwa maagizo kwenu kwa kizazi chote mahali kote mnakoishi.

So these thinges shall be a lawe of iudgement vnto you, throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

30 Yeyote amwuaye mtu, mwuaji atauawa, kama neno la ushahidi litakavyotolewa. Lakini ushahidi wa mtu mmoja unaweza usitoshe kusababisha mtu kuuawa.

Whosoeuer killeth any person, the Iudge shall slay the murtherer, through witnesses: but one witnesse shall not testifie against a person to cause him to die.

31 Pia, msipokee fidia kwa ajili ya uhai wa mwuaji ambaye ana hatia ya mauti. Kwa hakika lazima auawe.

Moreouer ye shall take no recompense for the life of the murtherer, which is worthy to die: but he shalbe put to death.

32 Na msipokee fidia ya mtu aliyekimbilia kwenye miji ya ukimbizi. Msimruhusu kwa namna yeyote kurudi kwenye mali zake mpaka pale kuhani mkuu atakapokufa.

Also ye shall take no recompense for him that is fled to the citie of his refuge, that he should come againe, and dwell in the lande, before the death of the hie Priest.

33 Msiiharibu nchi mnayokaa kwa namna hii, kwa kuwa damu ya mwuaji huharibu nchi. Hakuna sadaka ya upatanisho inayoweza kufanywa kwa nchi pale damu inapomwagika juu yake, isipokuwa kwa damu ya mtu aliyeimwaga.

So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye shall dwell: for blood defileth the land: and the land cannot be clensed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.

34 Kwa hiyo msiinajisi nchi mnayoishi kwa sababu Mimi ninaishi ndani yake. Mimi BWANA huishi kati ya watu wa Israeli.”'

Defile not therefore the lande which yee shall inhabite, For I dwell in the middes thereof: for I the Lord dwel among the children of Israel.
