1 Mithali za Solomoni: Mwana mwenye hekima huleta furaha kwa baba yake, lakini mwana mpumbavu huleta huzuni kwa mama yake.

The memory of the upright is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

The wise in heart receives mitzvot ·instructions·, but a chattering fool will fall.

He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.
10 Yeye akonyezaye kwa nia mbaya husababisha huzuni, naye mpumbavu apayukaye huangamia.
One winking with the eye causes sorrow, but a chattering fool will fall.
11 Kinywa cha mwenye haki ni chemchemi ya uzima, lakini jeuri hufunika kinywa cha mwovu.
The mouth of the upright is a spring of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.
12 Chuki huchochea faraka, lakini upendo husitiri mabaya yote.
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.
13 Hekima hupatikana katika midomo ya wenye kupambanua, lakini fimbo ni kwa ajili ya mgongo wake asiye na ufahamu.
Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment, but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.
14 Wenye hekima huhifadhi maarifa, bali kinywa cha mpumbavu hualika maangamizi.
Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.
15 Mali ya tajiri ni mji wake wenye ngome, bali ufukara ni maangamizi ya maskini.
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 Ujira wa wenye haki huwaletea uzima, lakini mapato ya waovu huwaletea adhabu.
The labor of the upright leads to life. The increase of the wicked leads to sin.
17 Anayekubali kuadibishwa yuko katika njia ya uzima, lakini yeyote anayepuuza maonyo hupotosha wengine.
He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.
18 Yeye afichaye chuki yake ana midomo ya uongo, na yeyote anayeeneza uchonganishi ni mpumbavu.
He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool.
19 Wakati maneno ni mengi, dhambi haikosekani, lakini yeye ambaye huzuia ulimi wake ni mwenye busara.
In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely.

The lips of the upright feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.
22 Baraka ya Bwana hutajirisha, wala haichanganyi huzuni.
Adonai’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.
23 Mpumbavu hufurahia tabia mbaya, lakini mtu mwenye ufahamu hupendezwa na hekima.
It is a fool’s pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man of understanding’s pleasure.
24 Kile anachoogopa mwovu ndicho kitakachompata; kile anachoonea shauku mwenye haki atapewa.
What the wicked fear, will overtake them, but the desire of the upright will be granted.
25 Tufani inapopita, waovu hutoweka, lakini wenye haki husimama imara milele.
When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the upright stand firm forever.
26 Kama siki ilivyo kwa meno na moshi kwa macho, ndivyo alivyo mvivu kwa wale waliomtuma.
As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

The fear of Adonai prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

The way of Adonai is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
30 Kamwe wenye haki hawataondolewa, bali waovu hawatasalia katika nchi.
The upright will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.
31 Kinywa cha mwenye haki hutoa hekima, bali ulimi wa upotovu utakatwa.
The mouth of the upright produces wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.
32 Midomo ya wenye haki inajua kile kinachofaa, bali kinywa cha mwovu hujua kile kilichopotoka tu.
The lips of the upright know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.
