Mathayo 5
1 Basi Yesu alipoona makutano, alipanda mlimani akaketi chini, nao wanafunzi wake wakamjia.
Seeing the multitude of people, Jesus went up the Hill. There He seated Himself, and when His disciples came to Him,
2 Ndipo akaanza kuwafundisha, akisema:
He proceeded to teach them, and said:
3 “Heri walio maskini wa roho, maana Ufalme wa Mbinguni ni wao.
"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
4 Heri wale wanaohuzunika, maana hao watafarijiwa.
"Blessed are the mourners, for they shall be comforted.
5 Heri walio wapole, maana hao watairithi nchi.
"Blessed are the meek, for they as heirs shall obtain possession of the earth.
6 Heri wenye njaa na kiu ya haki, maana hao watatoshelezwa.
"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be completely satisfied.
7 Heri wenye huruma, maana hao watapata rehema.
"Blessed are the compassionate, for they shall receive compassion.
8 Heri walio na moyo safi, maana hao watamwona Mungu.
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 Heri walio wapatanishi, maana hao wataitwa wana wa Mungu.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for it is they who will be recognized as sons of God.
10 Heri wanaoteswa kwa sababu ya haki, maana Ufalme wa Mbinguni ni wao.
"Blessed are those who have borne persecution in the cause of Righteousness, for to them belongs the Kingdom of the Heavens.
11 “Heri ninyi watu watakapowashutumu, na kuwatesa na kunena dhidi yenu mabaya ya aina zote kwa uongo kwa ajili yangu.
"Blessed are you when they have insulted and persecuted you, and have said every cruel thing about you falsely for my sake.
12 Furahini na kushangilia kwa maana thawabu yenu ni kubwa mbinguni, kwa kuwa hivyo ndivyo walivyowatesa manabii waliokuwa kabla yenu.
Be joyful and triumphant, because your reward is great in the Heavens; for so were the Prophets before you persecuted.
13 “Ninyi ni chumvi ya ulimwengu. Lakini chumvi ikipoteza ladha yake, yawezaje kurudishiwa ladha yake tena? Haifai tena kwa kitu chochote, ila kutupwa nje ikanyagwe na watu.
"You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has become tasteless, in what way can it regain its saltness? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown away and trodden on by the passers by.
14 “Ninyi ni nuru ya ulimwengu. Mji uliojengwa kilimani hauwezi kufichika.
You are the light of the world; a town cannot be hid if built on a hill-top.
15 Wala watu hawawashi taa na kuifunika kwa bakuli. Badala yake, huiweka kwenye kinara chake, nayo hutoa mwanga kwa kila mtu aliyemo ndani ya ile nyumba.
Nor is a lamp lighted to be put under a bushel, but on the lampstand; and then it gives light to all in the house.
16 Vivyo hivyo, nuru yenu iangaze mbele ya watu, ili wapate kuona matendo yenu mema wamtukuze Baba yenu aliye mbinguni.
Just so let your light shine before all men, in order that they may see your holy lives and may give glory to your Father who is in Heaven.
17 “Msidhani kwamba nimekuja kufuta Sheria au Manabii; sikuja kuondoa bali kutimiza.
"Do not for a moment suppose that I have come to abrogate the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to abrogate them but to give them their completion.
18 Kwa maana, amin nawaambia, mpaka mbingu na dunia zitakapopita, hakuna hata herufi moja ndogo wala nukta itakayopotea kwa namna yoyote kutoka kwenye Sheria, mpaka kila kitu kiwe kimetimia.
Solemnly I tell you that until Heaven and earth pass away, not one iota or smallest detail will pass away from the Law until all has taken place.
19 Kwa hiyo, yeyote atakayevunja mojawapo ya amri ndogo kuliko zote ya amri hizi, naye akawafundisha wengine kufanya hivyo, ataitwa mdogo kabisa katika Ufalme wa Mbinguni, lakini yeyote azitendaye na kuzifundisha hizi amri ataitwa mkuu katika Ufalme wa Mbinguni.
Whoever therefore breaks one of these least commandments and teaches others to break them, will be called the least in the Kingdom of the Heavens; but whoever practises them and teaches them, he will be acknowledged as great in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
20 Kwa maana nawaambia, haki yenu isipozidi haki ya Mafarisayo na walimu wa sheria, kamwe hamtaingia katika Ufalme wa Mbinguni.
For I assure you that unless your righteousness greatly surpasses that of the Scribes and the Pharisees, you will certainly not find entrance into the Kingdom of the Heavens.
21 “Mmesikia walivyoambiwa watu wa zamani kwamba, ‘Usiue. Yeyote atakayeua atapaswa hukumu.’
"You have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not commit murder', and whoever commits murder will be answerable to the magistrate.
22 Lakini mimi nawaambia kwamba, yeyote atakayemkasirikia ndugu yake, atapaswa hukumu. Tena, yeyote atakayemwambia ndugu yake, ‘Raka,’atapaswa kujibu kwa Baraza la Wayahudi. Lakini yeyote atakayesema ‘Wewe mpumbavu!’ atapaswa hukumu ya moto wa jehanamu. (Geenna g1067)
But I say to you that every one who becomes angry with his brother shall be answerable to the magistrate; that whoever says to his brother 'Raca,' shall be answerable to the Sanhedrin; and that whoever says, 'You fool!' shall be liable to the Gehenna of Fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 “Kwa hiyo, kama unatoa sadaka yako madhabahuni, ukakumbuka kuwa ndugu yako ana kitu dhidi yako,
If therefore when you are offering your gift upon the altar, you remember that your brother has a grievance against you,
24 iache sadaka yako hapo mbele ya madhabahu. Enda kwanza ukapatane na ndugu yako; kisha urudi na ukatoe sadaka yako.
leave your gift there before the altar, and go and make friends with your brother first, and then return and proceed to offer your gift.
25 “Patana na mshtaki wako upesi wakati uwapo njiani pamoja naye kwenda mahakamani, ili mshtaki wako asije akakutia mikononi mwa hakimu, naye hakimu akakutia mikononi mwa askari, nawe ukatupwa gerezani.
Come to terms without delay with your opponent while you are yet with him on the way to the court; for fear he should obtain judgement from the magistrate against you, and the magistrate should give you in custody to the officer and you be thrown into prison.
26 Amin, nakuambia, hautatoka humo hadi uwe umelipa senti ya mwisho.
I solemnly tell you that you will certainly not be released till you have paid the very last farthing.
27 “Mmesikia kwamba ilinenwa, ‘Usizini.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery.'
28 Lakini mimi nawaambia kwamba, yeyote amtazamaye mwanamke kwa kumtamani, amekwisha kuzini naye moyoni mwake.
But I tell you that whoever looks at a woman and cherishes lustful thoughts has already in his heart become guilty with regard to her.
29 Jicho lako la kuume likikusababisha kutenda dhambi, lingʼoe ulitupe mbali. Ni afadhali kwako kupoteza kiungo kimoja cha mwili wako kuliko mwili wako mzima ukatupwa jehanamu. (Geenna g1067)
If therefore your eye, even the right eye, is a snare to you, tear it out and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should be thrown into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
30 Kama mkono wako wa kuume ukikusababisha kutenda dhambi, ukate, uutupe mbali. Ni afadhali kwako kupoteza kiungo kimoja cha mwili wako kuliko mwili wako mzima utupwe jehanamu. (Geenna g1067)
And if your right hand is a snare to you, cut it off and away with it; it is better for you that one member should be destroyed rather than that your whole body should go into Gehenna. (Geenna g1067)
31 “Pia ilinenwa kwamba, ‘Mtu yeyote amwachaye mkewe sharti ampe hati ya talaka.’
"It was also said, 'If any man puts away his wife, let him give her a written notice of divorce.'
32 Lakini mimi nawaambia, yeyote amwachaye mkewe isipokuwa kwa kosa la uasherati, amfanya mkewe kuwa mzinzi. Na yeyote amwoaye yule mwanamke aliyeachwa, anazini.
But I tell you that every man who puts away his wife except on the ground of unfaithfulness causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries her when so divorced commits adultery.
33 “Tena mmesikia walivyoambiwa watu wa zamani kwamba, ‘Usiape kwa uongo, bali timiza kiapo kile ulichofanya kwa Bwana.’
"Again, you have heard that it was said to the ancients, 'Thou shalt not swear falsely, but shalt perform thy vows to the Lord.'
34 Lakini mimi nawaambia, msiape kabisa: iwe kwa mbingu, kwa kuwa ni kiti cha enzi cha Mungu;
But I tell you not to swear at all; neither by Heaven, for it is God's throne;
35 au kwa dunia, kwa kuwa ndipo mahali pake pa kuwekea miguu; au kwa Yerusalemu, kwa kuwa ndio mji wa Mfalme Mkuu.
nor by the earth, for it is the footstool under His feet; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the City of the Great King.
36 Nanyi msiape kwa vichwa vyenu, kwa kuwa hamwezi kuufanya hata unywele mmoja kuwa mweupe au mweusi.
And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
37 ‘Ndiyo’ yenu iwe ‘Ndiyo,’ na ‘Hapana’ yenu iwe ‘Hapana.’ Lolote zaidi ya hili latoka kwa yule mwovu.
But let your language be, 'Yes, yes,' or 'No, no.' Anything in excess of this comes from the Evil one.
38 “Mmesikia kwamba ilinenwa, ‘Jicho kwa jicho na jino kwa jino.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, tooth for tooth.'
39 Lakini mimi nawaambia, msishindane na mtu mwovu. Lakini kama mtu akikupiga kwenye shavu la kuume, mgeuzie na la pili pia.
But I tell you not to resist a wicked man, but if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him as well.
40 Kama mtu akitaka kukushtaki na kuchukua joho lako, mwachie achukue na koti pia.
If any one wishes to go to law with you and to deprive you of your under garment, let him take your outer one also.
41 Kama mtu akikulazimisha kwenda maili moja, nenda naye maili mbili.
And whoever shall compel you to convey his goods one mile, go with him two.
42 Mpe yeye akuombaye, wala usimgeuzie kisogo yeye atakaye kukukopa.
To him who asks, give: from him who would borrow, turn not away.
43 “Mmesikia kwamba ilinenwa, ‘Mpende jirani yako na umchukie adui yako.’
"You have heard that it was said, 'Thou shalt love thy neighbour and hate thine enemy.'
44 Lakini ninawaambia: Wapendeni adui zenu na waombeeni wanaowatesa ninyi,
But I command you all, love your enemies, and pray for your persecutors;
45 ili mpate kuwa watoto wa Baba yenu aliye mbinguni. Kwa maana yeye huwaangazia jua lake watu waovu na watu wema, naye huwanyeshea mvua wenye haki na wasio haki.
that so you may become true sons of your Father in Heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the wicked as well as the good, and sends rain upon those who do right and those who do wrong.
46 Kama mkiwapenda tu wale wanaowapenda, mtapata thawabu gani? Je, hata watoza ushuru hawafanyi hivyo?
For if you love only those who love you, what reward have you earned? Do not even the tax-gatherers do that?
47 Nanyi kama mkiwasalimu ndugu zenu tu, je, mnafanya nini zaidi ya wengine? Je, hata watu wasiomjua Mungu, hawafanyi hivyo?
And if you salute only your near relatives, what praise is due to you? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
48 Kwa hiyo kuweni wakamilifu kama Baba yenu wa mbinguni alivyo mkamilifu.
You however are to be complete in goodness, as your Heavenly Father is complete.
