San Mateo 20

1 Porque el reino de los cielos es semejante al dueño de una casa, que salió temprano en la mañana para traer obreros a su viña.

“The kingdom of heaven is like the father of a family who went out in early morning to lead workers into his vineyard.

2 Y cuando había hecho un acuerdo con los obreros por un centavo por día, los envió a su viña.

Then, having made an agreement with the workers for one denarius per day, he sent them into his vineyard.

3 Y salió como a la hora tercera, y vio a otros en el mercado sin hacer nada;

And going out about the third hour, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace.

4 Y les dijo: vayan a la viña con los otros, y les pagaré lo justo. Y ellos fueron a trabajar.

And he said to them, ‘You may go into my vineyard, too, and what I will give you will be just.’

5 Otra vez salió alrededor de la sexta y la novena hora, e hizo lo mismo.

So they went forth. But again, he went out about the sixth, and about the ninth hour, and he acted similarly.

6 Y a la undécima hora salió y vio a otros que no hacían nada; y él les dice: ¿Por qué están aquí todo el día sin hacer nada?

Yet truly, about the eleventh hour, he went out and found others standing, and he said to them, ‘Why have you stood here idle all day?’

7 Le Respondieron: Porque ninguno nos ha dado trabajo. Él les dice: vayan con el resto, a la viña.

They say to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also may go into my vineyard.’

8 Y cuando llegó la noche, el señor de la viña le dijo a su mayordomo: Dejen que los obreros vengan y pagales, desde el último hasta el primero.

And when evening had arrived, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last, even to the first.’

9 Y cuando aquellos hombres que habían ido a trabajar a la hora undécima, les dieron un penique por cada hombre.

And so, when those who had arrived about the eleventh hour came forward, each received a single denarius.

10 Luego, los que llegaron primero tuvieron la idea de que obtendrían más; y ellos, como el resto, recibieron un centavo.

Then when the first ones also came forward, they considered that they would receive more. But they, too, received one denarius.

11 Y cuando lo recibieron, protestaron contra el dueño de la casa,

And upon receiving it, they murmured against the father of the family,

12 Diciendo: Estos últimos han hecho solo una hora de trabajo, y ustedes los han hecho iguales a nosotros, que hemos pasado por el arduo trabajo del día y el calor abrasador.

saying, ‘These last have worked for one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who worked bearing the weight and heat of the day.’

13 Pero él, en respuesta, dijo a uno de ellos: Amigo, no te hago ninguna injusticia. ¿No hiciste un acuerdo conmigo por un centavo?

But responding to one of them, he said: ‘Friend, I caused you no injury. Did you not agree with me to one denarius?

14 Toma lo que es tuyo, y vete; es mi voluntad pagar lo mismo al los postreros como a ti.

Take what is yours and go. But it is my will to give to this last, just as to you.

15 ¿No tengo el derecho de hacer lo que me parece bien con lo mío en mi casa? ¿O tienes envidia, porque soy bueno?

And is it not lawful for me to do what I will? Or is your eye wicked because I am good?’

16 Así que los últimos serán los primeros, y los primeros últimos; porque muchos son los llamados y pocos los escogidos.

So then, the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. For many are called, but few are chosen.”

17 Y cuando Jesús subía a Jerusalén, tomó a los doce discípulos aparte, y les dijo:

And Jesus, ascending to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside in private and said to them:

18 Mira, vamos a Jerusalén; y el Hijo del hombre será entregado en manos de los principales sacerdotes y escribas; y darán órdenes para que lo maten,

“Behold, we are ascending to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be handed over to the leaders of the priests and to the scribes. And they shall condemn him to death.

19 Y lo entregarán a los gentiles para que se burlen de él y para que lo azoten y para que lo maten en la cruz; y al tercer día él resucitara de los muertos.

And they shall hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified. And on the third day, he shall rise again.”

20 Entonces la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo fue a él con sus hijos, y lo adoraron y le suplicaron.

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him, with her sons, adoring him, and petitioning something from him.

21 Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu deseo? Ella le dice: “Que se sienten mis dos hijos, el uno a tu derecha, y el otro a tu izquierda, en tu reino”.

And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Declare that these, my two sons, may sit, one at your right hand, and the other at your left, in your kingdom.”

22 Pero Jesús respondió y dijo: No tienes idea de lo que estás pidiendo. ¿Eres capaz de tomar la copa que estoy por tomar y ser bautizados con el bautismo con que yo soy bautizado?

But Jesus, responding, said: “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink from the chalice, from which I will drink?” They said to him, “We are able.”

23 Ellos le dicen: Nosotros podemos. Él les dice: En verdad, tomarás de mi copa; y con él bautismo que yo soy bautizado, serán bautizados, pero estar sentado a mi diestra y a mi izquierda no es lo mío dar, sino para aquellos para quienes mi Padre lo ha preparado.

He said to them: “From my chalice, indeed, you shall drink. But to sit at my right or my left is not mine to give to you, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”

24 Y cuando llegó a oídos de los diez, se enojaron con los dos hermanos.

And the ten, upon hearing this, became indignant with the two brothers.

25 Pero Jesús les dijo: saben que los gobernantes de las naciones se enseñorean de ellas, y los que son grandes entre ellos ejercen potestad.

But Jesus called them to himself and said: “You know that the first ones among the Gentiles are their rulers, and that those who are greater exercise power among them.

26 No sea así entre ustedes; pero si alguno desea hacerse grande entre ustedes, que sea su servidor;

It shall not be this way among you. But whoever will want to be greater among you, let him be your minister.

27 Y a cualquiera que tenga el deseo de ser el primero entre ustedes, que tome el lugar más bajo y sea su siervo:

And whoever will want to be first among you, he shall be your servant,

28 Así como el Hijo del hombre no vino para tener siervos, sino para ser siervo, y para dar su vida por la salvación de los hombres.

even as the Son of man has not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a redemption for many.”

29 Cuando salían de Jericó, un gran número de personas fue tras él.

And as they were departing from Jericho, a great crowd followed him.

30 Y dos ciegos sentados a la orilla del camino, cuando tenían la noticia de que Jesús pasaba, dieron grandes voces, diciendo: Señor, Hijo de David, ten compasión de nosotros.

And behold, two blind men, sitting by the way, heard that Jesus was passing by; and they cried out, saying, “Lord, Son of David, take pity on us.”

31 Y la gente les dio órdenes de callar; pero siguieron gritando aún más fuerte, Señor, Hijo de David, ten piedad de nosotros.

But the crowd rebuked them to be quiet. But they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, Son of David, take pity on us.”

32 Entonces Jesús, parándose, les mandó llamar a ellos, y dijo: ¿Qué quieren que les haga?

And Jesus stood still, and he called them and said, “What do you want, that I might do for you?”

33 Le dicen: Señor, que nuestros ojos estén abiertos.

They said to him, “Lord, that our eyes be opened.”

34 Y Jesús, lleno de piedad, les puso los dedos sobre los ojos; y luego pudieron ver, y fueron tras él.

Then Jesus, taking pity on them, touched their eyes. And immediately they saw, and they followed him.
