Jeremías 9
1 ¡Ojalá mi cabeza fuera una corriente de aguas y mis ojos fuentes de llanto, para que pudiera seguir llorando día y noche por los muertos de la hija de mi pueblo!
Oh that one would make my head water, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughters of my people!
2 ¡Ojalá tuviera en el desierto un lugar de descanso para los viajeros, para poder irme lejos de mi gente! porque todos ellos son adúlteros, una banda de hombres falsos.
Oh that one would place me in the wilderness in a lodging-place of wayfaring men. that I might leave my people, and go from them! for all of them are adulterers, a band of traitors.
3 Sus lenguas están dobladas como un arco; la mentira y no la verdad prevalecieron en la tierra; van de mal en mal proceden, y no me conocen, dice el Señor.
And they bend their tongues, their bow of falsehood, and not for the truth are they valiant in the land; for from evil to evil do they proceed, and me they know not, saith the Lord.
4 Que cada uno vigile a su prójimo, y no confíe en ningún hermano; porque todo hermano ciertamente engañará a su hermano, y todo vecino hablará mal.
Take ye heed every one of his neighbor, and on any brother place ye no reliance; for every brother will surely supplant, and every neighbor will go about as a talebearer.
5 Todo el mundo se burlará de su prójimo con engaño, sin decir lo que es verdadero; sus lenguas han sido entrenadas para decir mentiras; se afanan por cometer iniquidad.
And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and the truth will they not speak: they have taught their tongue to speak falsehood, they weary themselves to commit iniquity.
6 Tu morada está en medio del engaño; por causa del engaño han renunciado a mi conocimiento, dice el Señor.
Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit: through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the Lord.
7 Entonces el Señor de los ejércitos dijo: Mira, los refinare en el fuego y los pondré a prueba; Esto lo haré por su maldad.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and probe them; for how [else] shall I do because of the daughter of my people?
8 Su lengua es una flecha que causa la muerte; Las palabras de su boca son engañosas: dice palabras de paz a su prójimo, pero en su corazón lo está esperando en secreto.
A murderous arrow is their tongue; [every one] speaketh deceit: with his mouth speaketh he peaceably to his neighbor, but in his heart he layeth wait for him.
9 ¿No debo enviar castigo por estas cosas? dice el Señor: ¿no aceptará mi alma venganza de una nación como esta?
Shall I not for these things inflict punishment on them? saith the Lord: or shall not on a nation such as this my soul be avenged?
10 Levanten lloro, clamando por el dolor de los montes; y por los campos del desierto envíen un canto de dolor, porque se queman, para que nadie pase; no hay sonido de ganado; El pájaro de los cielos y la bestia están en vuelo y se han ido.
For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation; because they are burnt up, so that no man can pass through them; and they hear not the voice of the cattle: both the fowls of the heavens and the beasts are fled; they are gone away.
11 Y haré de Jerusalén un montón de piedras, el lugar de vida de los chacales; y haré de los pueblos de Judá ruinas, donde ningún hombre vivirá allí.
And I will change Jerusalem into heaps of ruins, a dwelling for monsters: and the cities of Judah will I make desolate, without an inhabitant.
12 ¿Quién es el sabio capaz de ver esto? ¿Quién es aquel a quien ha venido la palabra del Señor, para que lo aclare? ¿Por qué la tierra se da a la destrucción y se quema, quedará como un desierto, para que nadie pase?
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord hath spoken, that he may declare it: for what is the land destroyed, burnt up like the wilderness, without one that passeth through?
13 Y el Señor dijo: Porque han renunciado a mi ley que les he puesto delante, sin prestar atención a mi voz y no dejándose guiar por ella;
And the Lord said, Because they forsook my law which I had set before them, and hearkened not to my voice, and walked not therein;
14 Pero ellos han estado caminando en el orgullo de sus corazones, persiguiendo a los baales, como sus padres les dieron la enseñanza.
But have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Be'alim, which their fathers had taught them.
15 Así que el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, ha dicho: Les daré a ellos, también a esta gente, plantas amargas para comer y agua amarga para beber.
Therefore thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them—this people, with wormwood, and give them poison-water to drink.
16 Y los enviaré vagando entre las naciones, entre la gente extraña para ellos y para sus padres; y enviaré espada en pos de ellos hasta que acabe con ellos.
And I will scatter them among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send out after them the sword, till I have consumed them.
17 Esto es lo que el Señor de los ejércitos ha dicho: consideren y llamen a las mujeres que lloran, para que vengan; y llamen a las mujeres sabias, para que vengan;
Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, Consider it well, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the women skilled in lament, that they may come;
18 Dejen que ellas rápidamente nos hagan gritos de tristeza, para que se llenen de lágrimas nuestros ojos y nuestros párpados se inunden de llanto.
And let them make haste, and take up for us a lamentation, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids drop down water.
19 Porque un sonido de llanto sube de Sión, un grito: ¿Cómo ha llegado la destrucción sobre nosotros? Nos vence la vergüenza porque nos hemos ido de nuestra tierra; Él nos ha enviado de nuestra casa.
For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we wasted! we are greatly ashamed; because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.
20 Pero ahora, escucha la palabra del Señor, oh mujeres; deja que tus oídos estén abiertos a la palabra de su boca, entrenando a tus hijas para que griten de tristeza, y todos le enseñan a su vecino una canción de dolor.
For hear, O ye women, the word of the Lord, and let your ear perceive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation.
21 Porque la muerte ha subido por nuestras ventanas, forzando su camino hacia nuestros palacios; talando a los niños en las calles y a los jóvenes en las plazas.
For death is come up through our windows, is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from the street, the young men from the open places.
22 Los cuerpos de los hombres caerán tendidos como estiércol en los campos abiertos, y como el grano arrojado por el cortador de granos, y nadie los levantará.
Speak, Thus saith the Lord, Yea, the carcasses of men shall lie as dung upon the open field, and as the sheaves [left] after the harvestman, with none to gather them.
23 Esta es la palabra del Señor: No permitas que el hombre sabio se enorgullezca de su sabiduría, o el hombre fuerte en su fortaleza, o el hombre de riqueza en su riqueza.
Thus hath said the Lord, Let not the wise glorify himself in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glorify himself in his might, let not the rich glorify himself in his riches;
24 Pero si alguno tiene orgullo, tenga esto en cuenta, que tenga la sabiduría de saber de mí, que yo soy el Señor, obrando misericordia, dando verdaderas decisiones y haciendo justicia en la tierra; Estas cosas me deleitan, dice el Señor.
But let him that glorifieth himself glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord who exercise kindness, justice, and righteousness, on the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
25 Mira, viene el día, dice el Señor, cuando enviaré castigo a todos los que son incircuncisos;
Behold, days are coming, saith the Lord, that I will send punishment on all the circumcised who are [yet] uncircumcised;
26 En Egipto y en Judá y en Edom y en los hijos de Amón y en Moab y en todos los que viven a los alrededores, que viven en los lugares más remotos del desierto; por todas estas naciones son incircuncisas y toda la gente de Israel es incircuncisa de corazón.
On Egypt, and on Judah, and on Edom, and on the children of 'Ammon, and on Moab, and all who have the locks of their hair cut off round that dwell in the wilderness; for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
