Eclesiastés 10
1 Las moscas muertas hacen que el aceite del perfumista emita un mal olor; más valiosa es un poco de sabiduría que la gran gloria de los necios.
Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to send forth an evil odor; [so] doth a little folly outweigh wisdom and honor.
2 El corazón del sabio va en la dirección correcta; pero el corazón de un hombre necio en el mal.
A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
3 Y cuando el hombre insensato camina por el camino, no tiene ningún sentido y permite que todos vean que es insensato.
Yea also, when the fool walketh by the way, his understanding faileth him, and he saith to every one [that] he is a fool.
4 Si la ira del gobernante está contra ti, guarda tu lugar; en aquel que guarda silencio, incluso los grandes pecados pueden ser pasados por alto.
If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for gentleness allayeth great offences.
5 Hay un mal que he visto bajo el sol, como un error que viene por la causa de un gobernante:
There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as it were an error which proceedeth from the ruler:
6 Los insensatos se colocan en posiciones altas, pero los hombres ricos se mantienen bajos.
folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place.
7 He visto sirvientes a caballo y gobernantes caminando sobre la tierra como sirvientes.
I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking like servants upon the earth.
8 El que haga un agujero para los demás, él mismo entrará en él, y para el que haga un agujero a través de una pared, la mordedura de una serpiente será un castigo.
He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh through a wall, a serpent shall bite him.
9 El que saque piedras de la tierra será dañado por ellos, y en el corte de la madera hay peligro.
Whoso heweth out stones shall be hurt therewith; [and] he that cleaveth wood is endangered thereby.
10 Si el hierro no tiene filo, y él no lo afila, entonces tiene que sacar más fuerza; Pero la sabiduría hace que las cosas vayan bien.
If the iron be blunt, and one do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
11 Si una serpiente da un mordisco antes de ser encantada, entonces ya no hay ningún provecho para él encantador.
If the serpent bite before it is charmed, then is there no advantage in the charmer.
12 Las palabras de un sabio son dulces para todos, pero los labios de un hombre necio son su destrucción.
The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
13 Las primeras palabras de su boca son insensatas, y el final de su discurso es un crimen perverso.
The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
14 Los insensatos están llenos de palabras; el hombre no tiene conocimiento de lo que será; ¿Y quién es capaz de decir qué será después de él?
A fool also multiplieth words: [yet] man knoweth not what shall be; and that which shall be after him, who can tell him?
15 El trabajo de los necios será un cansancio para él, porque él no tiene conocimiento del camino al pueblo.
The labor of fools wearieth every one of them; for he knoweth not how to go to the city.
16 Infeliz es la tierra cuyo rey es un niño, y cuyos gobernantes están festejando en la mañana.
Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!
17 Feliz es la tierra cuyo gobernante es de noble nacimiento y cuyos jefes comen en el momento adecuado, para recuperar la fuerza y no para emborracharse.
Happy art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
18 Cuando no se hace ningún trabajo, el techo se cae y cuando las manos no hacen nada, el agua gotea en la casa.
By slothfulness the roof sinketh in; and through idleness of the hands the house leaketh.
19 Una fiesta es para reír, y el vino alegra el corazón; pero él dinero es la respuesta de todo.
A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh glad the life; and money answereth all things.
20 No digas maldición contra el rey, ni siquiera en tus pensamientos; e incluso secretamente no digas una maldición contra el hombre de riqueza; porque un pájaro del aire tomará la voz, y lo que tiene alas dará noticias de ello.
Revile not the king, no, not in thy thought; and revile not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the heavens shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
