1 Samuel 8
1 Y cuando Samuel era viejo, hizo a sus hijos jueces sobre Israel.
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he appointed his sons judges over Israel.
2 El nombre de su primer hijo fue Joel y el nombre de su segundo Abías: eran jueces en Beerseba.
And the name of his first-born was Joel; and the name of his second Abiyah: they judged in Beer-sheba'.
3 Y sus hijos no siguieron sus caminos, sino que, movidos por el amor al dinero, recibieron sobornos y no fueron rectos al juzgar.
But his sons walked not in his ways, and they inclined after their own advantage, and took bribes, and perverted justice.
4 Entonces todos los hombres responsables de Israel se reunieron y fueron a Samuel en Ramá.
Then did all the elders of Israel assemble themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
5 Y le dijo: Mira, eres viejo, y tus hijos no van en tus caminos. Danos un rey ahora para que sea nuestro juez, para que podamos ser como las otras naciones.
And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons have not walked in thy ways: now appoint for us a king to judge us like all the nations.
6 Pero a Samuel no le gustó la petición que le hicieron. Danos un rey para que sea nuestro juez. Y Samuel hizo oración al Señor.
But the thing was displeasing in the eyes of Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.
7 Entonces el Señor le dijo a Samuel: Escucha la voz de la gente y lo que te dicen. No se han apartado de ti, sino que se han apartado de mí, no queriendo que yo fuera rey sobre ellos.
And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they may say unto thee; for not thee have they rejected, but me have they rejected, that I should not reign over them.
8 Como lo han hecho desde el principio, desde el día en que los saqué de Egipto hasta el día de hoy, dándome la espalda y adorando a otros dioses, así que ahora están actuando de la misma manera contigo.
In accordance with all the deeds which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even until this day, when they forsook me, and served other gods: so do they also unto thee.
9 Escucha ahora su voz: pero advertirles seriamente a ellos y dales una imagen de la clase de rey que será su gobernante.
And now hearken unto their voice: nevertheless thou must still solemnly forewarn them, and tell them the manner of the king that will reign over them.
10 Y Samuel dijo todas estas palabras del Señor a la gente que deseaba un rey.
And Samuel said all the words of the Lord unto the people that had asked of him a king.
11 Y él dijo: Este es el tipo de rey que será su gobernante: él tomará a sus hijos y los convertirá en sus sirvientes, sus jinetes y conductores de sus carros de guerra, y ellos irán corriendo ante su carruaje de guerra;
And he said, This will be the manner of the king that will reign over you: Your sons will he take, and appoint them for himself with his chariots, and among his horsemen; and they will have to run before his chariot;
12 Y los convertirá en capitanes de miles y de cincuenta; a algunos los pondrá a trabajar arando y cortando su grano y haciendo sus instrumentos de guerra y construyendo sus carruajes de guerra.
And to appoint for himself captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and to plough his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and the instruments of his chariots.
13 Tus hijas las llevará a ser fabricantes de perfumistas, cocineras y panaderas.
And your daughters will he take for ointment makers, and for cooks, and for bakers.
14 Tomará sus campos y sus viñas y sus olivares, todo lo mejor de ellos, y se los dará a sus siervos.
And your fields, and your vineyards, and your olive-yards, yea the best, will he take, and give them to his servants.
15 Tomará una décima parte de su semilla y del fruto de sus viñas y se la dará a sus siervos y oficiales.
And of your seeds, and of your vineyards will he take the tenth, and give [the same] to his officers, and to his servants.
16 Tomará a sus siervos y sirvientas de ustedes, y al mejor de sus bueyes y de sus asnos, y los pondrá a su trabajo para el.
And your men-servants, and your maid-servants, and your best young men, and your asses will he take, and employ [them] for his work.
17 Tomará la décima parte de sus ovejas, y ustedes serán sus siervos también.
Of your flocks will he take the tenth: and ye yourselves will become his servants.
18 Entonces clamarán por causa del rey, que habían escogido. Pero el Señor no les dará una respuesta en ese día.
And ye will cry out on that day because of your king whom ye will have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you on that day.
19 Pero el pueblo no prestó atención a la voz de Samuel; Y ellos dijeron: No, pero tendremos un rey sobre nosotros,
Nevertheless the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, No; but a king shall be over us;
20 Para que podamos ser como las otras naciones, y para que nuestro rey sea nuestro juez y salga ante nosotros a la guerra.
That we also may ourselves be like all the nations: and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
21 Entonces Samuel, después de escuchar todo lo que la gente tenía que decir, fue y dio cuenta de ello al Señor.
And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he spoke them before the ears of the Lord.
22 Y él Señor dijo a Samuel: Atiende su voz y nombra un rey para ellos. Entonces Samuel dijo a los hombres de Israel: Que cada uno vuelva a su pueblo.
And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and appoint them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.
