1 Samuel 12
1 Entonces Samuel dijo a todo Israel: He aquí que he escuchado todo lo que me has dicho, y has hecho un rey sobre ti.
And Samuel said unto all Israel, Lo! I have hearkened unto your voice, in all that ye said to me, —and have set over you a king.
2 Y ahora, verás, el rey está delante de ti. En cuanto a mi ya estoy viejo y canoso, y mis hijos están contigo. He estado viviendo ante ustedes desde mis primeros días hasta ahora.
Now, therefore, lo! the king going to and fro before you, But, I, am old and grey-headed, and, my sons, lo! they are with you, —But, I, have gone to and fro before you from my youth until this day.
3 Aquí estoy. Den testimonio contra mí delante del Señor; delante del hombre sobre quien puso el aceite santo ¿de quién es el buey o asno que he tomado? ¿A quién he sido falso? ¿Quién ha sido oprimido por mí? ¿De qué mano he tomado un precio por el cegamiento de mis ojos? Te lo devolveré todo.
Behold me! testify against me, before Yahweh, and before his Anointed—Whose, ox, have I taken? or whose, ass, have I taken? or whom have I oppressed? Whom have I crushed? or at whose, hands, have I taken a bribe, to cover up mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it unto you.
4 Y ellos dijeron: Tú nunca nos has sido falso o cruel con nosotros; No le has quitado nada a ningún hombre.
And they said, Thou hast not oppressed us, neither hast thou crushed us, —neither hast thou taken, at the hand of any man, any thing.
5 Él les dijo: El Señor es testigo contra ustedes, y el hombre a quien he ungido es testigo hoy que no han visto nada malo en mí. Y dijeron: Así es, él es testigo.
And he said unto them—Witness, is Yahweh against you, and, witness, is his Anointed, this day, that ye have not found in my hand, any thing! And they said: Witness!
6 Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: Él Señor es el testigo, que dio autoridad a Moisés y a Aarón, y que sacó a sus padres de la tierra de Egipto.
And Samuel said unto the people: Witness, is Yahweh, who wrought with Moses and with Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt.
7 Mantengan sus lugares ahora, mientras abordo la discusión con ustedes ante el Señor y les cuento la historia de la justicia del Señor, que él ha dejado en claro mediante sus actos para ustedes y para sus padres.
Now, therefore, take your stand and let me plead with you, before Yahweh, —and tell you all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he wrought with you, and with your fathers:
8 Cuando Jacob y sus hijos llegaron a Egipto y fueron oprimidos por los egipcios, las oraciones de sus padres se acercaron al Señor, y el Señor envió a Moisés y a Aarón, quienes sacaron a sus padres de Egipto, y los puso en este lugar.
How that, when Jacob had come into Egypt, —and your fathers had made outcry unto Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and he caused them to dwell in this place;
9 Pero se olvidaron del Señor su Dios, y él los entregó en manos de Sísara, capitán del ejército de rey de Hazor, y en manos de los filisteos, y en manos del rey de Moab, que hizo la guerra contra ellos.
And, when they forgat Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, prince of the host of Jabin, king of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them;
10 Entonces clamando al Señor, dijeron: Hemos hecho lo malo, porque hemos abandonado al Señor, adorando a los baales y astartés: pero ahora, protégenos de los que están contra nosotros y te serviremos solo a ti.
But, when they made outcry unto Yahweh and said—We have sinned, in that we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, —now, therefore, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, that we may serve thee,
11 Entonces el Señor envió a Jerobaal, a Barac, a Jefté, a Samuel, y te sacó del poder de los que luchaban contra ti por todos lados, y vivieron seguros.
then Yahweh sent Jerubbaal and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, —and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies, on every side, and ye dwelt in safety.
12 Y cuando viste que Nahas, el rey de los amonitas, que venía contra ustedes, me pidieron un rey: No! ¡Queremos un rey para nuestro gobernante! cuando él Señor tu Dios era su rey.
But, when ye saw that, Nahash king of the sons of Ammon, came upon you, then said ye unto me, Nay! but, a king, shall reign over us, when, Yahweh your God, was your king!
13 Aquí, entonces, el rey que han escogido. Él Señor ha puesto un rey que ustedes pidieron.
Now, therefore, lo! the king whom ye have chosen, for whom ye have asked, —lo! therefore, Yahweh hath set over you a king.
14 Si en el temor del Señor son sus siervos, oyen su voz y no van en contra de las órdenes del Señor, sino que son fieles al Señor su Dios, y el rey que gobierna sobre ustedes, entonces harán bien.
If ye will revere Yahweh, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then shall, both ye and your king that reigneth over you, continue to follow after Yahweh your God.
15 Pero si no escuchas la voz del Señor, sino vas contra sus órdenes, entonces la mano del Señor estará contra ustedes, como lo fue contra sus padres.
But, if ye hearken not unto the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the bidding of Yahweh, then will the hand of Yahweh continue to be against you, and against your fathers.
16 Ahora, manténgase donde están y vean esta gran cosa que el Señor hará ante sus ojos.
Even now, stand still and see this great thing, —which Yahweh is about to do before your eyes:
17 ¿No es ahora el momento del corte de grano? Mi clamor subirá al Señor y él enviará truenos y lluvia; para que puedan ver y ser conscientes de su gran pecado que han cometido ante los ojos del Señor al desear un rey para ustedes mismos.
Is it not wheat harvest, to-day? I will cry unto Yahweh, that he may give forth thunderings and rain, —know ye then and see, that, your wrong, is great which ye have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking for yourselves, a king.
18 Entonces Samuel hizo oración al Señor; y él Señor envió truenos y lluvias ese día, y todo el pueblo temía al Señor y a Samuel.
So Samuel cried unto Yahweh, and Yahweh gave forth thunderings and rain, on that day, —and all the people greatly feared Yahweh, and Samuel.
19 Y todo el pueblo le dijo a Samuel: Ruega al Señor tu Dios para que la muerte no nos alcance; porque además de todos nuestros pecados hemos hecho este mal, al desear un rey.
And all the people said unto Samuel—Pray for thy servants, unto Yahweh thy God, and let it not be that we die, —For we have added, to all our sins, a wrong, in asking for ourselves a king.
20 Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: No teman: en verdad han hecho lo malo, pero no se aparten del Señor; Sean sus siervos con todo su corazón.
Then said Samuel unto the people—Do not fear, ye, have done all this wrong, —nevertheless, do not turn aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh, with all your heart;
21 Y no vayas por el camino de aquellos dioses falsos en los que no hay beneficio ni salvación, porque son falsos.
and turn not aside after vanities, that can neither profit nor deliver, because, vanities, they are.
22 Porque el Señor no entregará a su pueblo por el honor de su nombre; porque fue un placer del Señor hacer de ustedes un pueblo para sí mismo.
For Yahweh will not give up his people, because of his great name, for Yahweh was minded to make you his people.
23 Y en cuanto a mí, nunca iré en contra de las órdenes del Señor al renunciar a mis oraciones por ustedes: pero continuaré enseñándoles el camino bueno y correcto.
As for me also, far be it from me, that I should sin against Yahweh, by ceasing to pray for you, —but I will direct you, in the good and right way.
24 Solo vayan en el temor del Señor y ríndanle culto de todo su corazón, teniendo en cuenta las grandes cosas que ha hecho por ustedes.
Only, revere Yahweh, and serve him in truth, with all your heart, —for see, what great things he hath done with you.
25 Pero si siguen haciendo el mal, la destrucción los alcanzará a ustedes y a su rey.
But, if ye, will do wrong, both ye and your king shall be swept away.
