Proverbios 20
1 El vino es burlador y alborotador el licor, Y cualquiera que en ello se desvía no es sabio.
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And he that reeleth with it is not wise.
2 Como rugido de león es la ira del rey, El que provoca su ira expone su propia vida.
The terror of a king is like the roaring of a lion; He who provoketh him sinneth against himself.
3 Honra del hombre es evitar la contienda, Pero todo insensato se envolverá en ella.
It is an honor to a man to cease from strife; Bur every fool rusheth into it.
4 En otoño no ara el holgazán, Rebuscará en la cosecha y nada hallará.
The sluggard will not plough by reason of the cold; Therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Como agua profunda es el propósito en el corazón del hombre, Pero el hombre entendido logrará extraerlo.
A design in the heart of a man is like deep waters; But a man of understanding draweth it out.
6 Muchos hombres proclaman su propia bondad, Pero un hombre fiel, ¿quién lo hallará?
Many will proclaim their own kindness; But a faithful man who can find?
7 El justo camina en su integridad, Después de él, sus hijos son muy dichosos.
He who walketh in his integrity is a righteous man; Happy will be his children after him!
8 Un rey sentado en el tribunal, Con su mirada disipa toda maldad.
The king, sitting upon the throne of judgment, Scattereth with his eyes all the wicked like chaff.
9 ¿Quién podrá decir: Tengo mi conciencia limpia, Estoy purificado de mi pecado?
Who can say, “I have kept my heart clean; I am free from my sin?”
10 Pesa falsa y medida falsa, Ambas son repugnancia a Yavé.
Divers weights and divers measures, —Both of them are an abomination to the LORD.
11 Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechos, Si su conducta es limpia y recta.
Even in childhood one maketh himself known by his doings, Whether his actions will be pure and right.
12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve, Ambas cosas las hizo Yavé.
The ear that heareth, and the eye that seeth, —The LORD made them both.
13 No ames el sueño No sea que te empobrezcas. Abre tus ojos y te saciarás de pan.
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; Open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 Es malo, es malo, dice el comprador, Pero cuando se va, se jacta.
“Bad! bad!” saith the buyer; But when he hath gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Existe el oro y multitud de piedras preciosas, Pero los labios sabios son algo más precioso.
There is gold and abundance of pearls; But the lips of knowledge are a precious vase.
16 Tómale la ropa al que salió fiador de un extraño, Y tómale prenda cuando da garantía a los forasteros.
Take his garment who is surety for another; Yea, take a pledge of him who is bound for a stranger.
17 Sabroso es al hombre el pan mal adquirido, Pero después su boca estará llena de fragmentos de piedra.
The bread of falsehood is sweet to a man; But afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.
18 Confirma los planes por medio del consejo, Y con sabias estrategias haz la guerra.
Purposes are established by counsel; Therefore with good advice make war.
19 El que revela secretos levanta calumnia, Por tanto, no te metas con un chismoso.
He who goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; Therefore associate not with him who keepeth open his lips.
20 Al que insulte a su padre o a su madre, Se le apagará su lámpara en medio de la oscuridad.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, His lamp shall be put out in midnight darkness.
21 Herencia adquirida con robo al comienzo, Al fin no será bendita.
A possession may be gotten hastily in the beginning, But in the end it will not be blessed.
22 No digas: Yo me vengaré. Espera a Yavé, y Él te salvará.
Say not thou, “I will repay evil;” Wait on the LORD, and he will help thee.
23 Las pesas desiguales son repugnancia a Yavé, Y una balanza con trampa no es buena.
Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD, And a false balance is not good.
24 De Yavé son los pasos del hombre, ¿Cómo, pues, podrá el hombre entender su camino?
A man's steps are from the LORD; How, then, can a man understand his way?
25 Trampa es al hombre el voto apresurado, Y después de hacerlo, reflexionar.
It is a snare to a man to utter a vow rashly, And after vows to consider.
26 El rey sabio dispersa a los perversos, Y hace pasar sobre ellos la rueda de trillar.
A wise king scattereth the wicked like chaff, And bringeth over them the wheel.
27 Lámpara de Yavé es el espíritu del hombre, Que escudriña lo más recóndito del ser.
The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Which searcheth all the inner chambers of his body.
28 Misericordia y verdad preservan al rey, Y la clemencia sustenta su trono.
Mercy and truth preserve the king; Yea, his throne is upholden by mercy.
29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su fortaleza, Y el esplendor de los ancianos, sus canas.
The glory of young men is their strength, And the beauty of old men is the gray head.
30 Las marcas de los azotes purifican del mal, Y los golpes llegan a lo íntimo del corazón.
Wounding stripes are the remedy for a bad man; Yea, stripes which reach to the inner chambers of the body.
