1 Samuel 31
1 Entonces los filisteos libraron batalla contra Israel, y los hombres de Israel volvieron las espaldas a los filisteos, y cayeron muertos en la montaña de Gelboé.
And the Philistines are fighting against Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,
2 Los filisteos persiguieron con todo empeño a Saúl y a sus hijos y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Melquisúa, hijos de Saúl,
and the Philistines follow Saul and his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, sons of Saul.
3 de modo que el peso del combate vino a descargar sobre Saúl, el cual concibió gran temor cuando le descubrieron los flecheros.
And the battle is hard against Saul, and the archers find him — men with bow — and he is pained greatly by the archers;
4 Por lo cual dijo Saúl a su escudero: “Saca tu espada, y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y me maten, mofándose de mí.” Mas no quiso su escudero porque tuvo gran miedo. Entonces tomó Saúl la espada y se arrojó sobre ella.
and Saul saith to the bearer of his weapons, 'Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest they come — these uncircumcised — and have pierced me, and rolled themselves on me;' and the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he is greatly afraid, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it.
5 El escudero al ver que Saúl era muerto, se echó él también sobre su espada y murió con él.
And the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul [is] dead, and he falleth — he also — on his sword, and dieth with him;
6 Así murieron en aquel día Saúl, juntamente con sus tres hijos, su escudero y toda su gente.
and Saul dieth, and three of his sons, and the bearer of his weapons, also all his men, on that day together.
7 Cuando los israelitas que vivían en la otra parte del valle, y los de la otra parte del Jordán, vieron que habían huido los hombres de Israel y que habían muerto Saúl y sus hijos, dejaron las ciudades y se pusieron en fuga. Y vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.
And they see — the men of Israel, who [are] beyond the valley, and who [are] beyond the Jordan — that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.
8 Al día siguiente vinieron los filisteos para despojar a los muertos, y hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos tendidos en la montaña de Gelboé.
And it cometh to pass on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and they find Saul and his three sons fallen on mount Gilboa,
9 Le cortaron la cabeza y le despojaron de sus armas y enviaron a publicar esta buena nueva por todo el país de los filisteos en los templos de sus ídolos y entre su pueblo.
and they cut off his head, and strip off his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim tidings [in] the house of their idols, and [among] the people;
10 Las armas (de Saúl) las depositaron en el templo de Astarté, y colgaron su cadáver en el muro de Betsán.
and they place his weapons [in] the house of Ashtaroth, and his body they have fixed on the wall of Beth-Shan.
11 Cuando los habitantes de Jabés-Galaad oyeron lo que los filisteos habían hecho con Saúl,
And they hear regarding it — the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead — that which the Philistines have done to Saul,
12 todos los hombres valientes se levantaron y después de marchar durante toda la noche quitaron el cadáver de Saúl y los cadáveres de sus hijos, del muro de Betsán, y se volvieron a Jabés, donde los quemaron.
and all the men of valour arise, and go all the night, and take the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-Shan, and come in to Jabesh, and burn them there,
13 Después tomaron sus huesos y los sepultaron bajo el tamarisco de Jabés y ayunaron siete días.
and they take their bones, and bury [them] under the tamarisk in Jabesh, and fast seven days.
