That which was from the first, which has come to our ears, and which we have seen with our eyes, looking on it and touching it with our hands, about the Word of life
2 sa jiivanasvaruupa. h prakaa"sata vaya nca ta. m d. r.s. tavantastamadhi saak. sya. m dadma"sca, ya"sca pitu. h sannidhaavavarttataasmaaka. m samiipe prakaa"sata ca tam anantajiivanasvaruupa. m vaya. m yu. smaan j naapayaama. h| (aiōnios g166)
(And the life was made clear to us, and we have seen it and are witnessing to it and giving you word of that eternal life which was with the Father and was seen by us); (aiōnios g166)
3 asmaabhi ryad d. r.s. ta. m "sruta nca tadeva yu. smaan j naapyate tenaasmaabhi. h sahaa. m"sitva. m yu. smaaka. m bhavi. syati| asmaaka nca sahaa. m"sitva. m pitraa tatputre. na yii"sukhrii. s.tena ca saarddha. m bhavati|
We give you word of all we have seen and everything which has come to our ears, so that you may be united with us; and we are united with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ:
4 apara nca yu. smaakam aanando yat sampuur. no bhaved tadartha. m vayam etaani likhaama. h|
And we are writing these things to you so that our joy may be made complete.
5 vaya. m yaa. m vaarttaa. m tasmaat "srutvaa yu. smaan j naapayaama. h seyam| ii"svaro jyotistasmin andhakaarasya le"so. api naasti|
This is the word which came to us from him and which we give to you, that God is light and in him there is nothing dark.
6 vaya. m tena sahaa. m"sina iti gaditvaa yadyandhaakaare caraamastarhi satyaacaari. no na santo. an. rtavaadino bhavaama. h|
If we say we are joined to him, and are walking still in the dark, our words are false and our acts are untrue:
7 kintu sa yathaa jyoti. si varttate tathaa vayamapi yadi jyoti. si caraamastarhi paraspara. m sahabhaagino bhavaamastasya putrasya yii"sukhrii. s.tasya rudhira ncaasmaan sarvvasmaat paapaat "suddhayati|

10 vayam ak. rtapaapaa iti yadi vadaamastarhi tam an. rtavaadina. m kurmmastasya vaakya ncaasmaakam antare na vidyate|
