1 tataH paraM yIshurgachChan mArgamadhye janmAndhaM naram apashyat|
As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
2 tataH shiShyAstam apR^ichChan he guro naroyaM svapApena vA svapitrAH pApenAndho. ajAyata?
His disciples asked him, “Rabbi ·Teacher·, who committed sin ·missed the mark and being without share·, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (Still the seventh month Ethanim ·Ever-flowing durable stream (in Hebrew), 7· or Tishrei ·[Beginning (in Babylonian)]· 22 day)).
3 tataH sa pratyuditavAn etasya vAsya pitroH pApAd etAdR^ishobhUda iti nahi kintvanena yatheshvarasya karmma prakAshyate taddhetoreva|
Yeshua [Salvation] answered, “Neither did this man nor his parents commit sin ·miss the mark and be without share·; but, that the works of God might be revealed in him.
4 dine tiShThati matprerayituH karmma mayA karttavyaM yadA kimapi karmma na kriyate tAdR^ishI nishAgachChati|
I must work the works of him who sent me, while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.
5 ahaM yAvatkAlaM jagati tiShThAmi tAvatkAlaM jagato jyotiHsvarUposmi|
While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
6 ityukttA bhUmau niShThIvaM nikShipya tena pa NkaM kR^itavAn
When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud,
7 pashchAt tatpa Nkena tasyAndhasya netre pralipya tamityAdishat gatvA shilohe. arthAt preritanAmni sarasi snAhi| tatondho gatvA tatrAsnAt tataH prannachakShu rbhUtvA vyAghuTyAgAt|
and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.
8 apara ncha samIpavAsino lokA ye cha taM pUrvvamandham apashyan te bakttum Arabhanta yondhaloko vartmanyupavishyAbhikShata sa evAyaM janaH kiM na bhavati?
The neighbors therefore, and those who saw that he was blind before, said, “Is not this he who sat and begged?”
9 kechidavadan sa eva kechidavochan tAdR^isho bhavati kintu sa svayamabravIt sa evAhaM bhavAmi|
Others were saying, “It is he.” Still others were saying, “He looks like him.” He said, “I am he.”
10 ataeva te. apR^ichChan tvaM kathaM dR^iShTiM pAptavAn?
They therefore were asking him, “How were your eyes opened?”
11 tataH sovadad yIshanAmaka eko jano mama nayane pa Nkena pralipya ityAj nApayat shilohakAsAraM gatvA tatra snAhi| tatastatra gatvA mayi snAte dR^iShTimahaM labdhavAn|
He answered, “A man called Yeshua [Salvation] made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam [Sent], and wash.’ So I went away and washed, and I received sight.”
12 tadA te. avadan sa pumAn kutra? tenokttaM nAhaM jAnAmi|
Then they asked him, “Where is he?” He said, “I don’t know.”
13 aparaM tasmin pUrvvAndhe jane phirUshinAM nikaTam AnIte sati phirUshinopi tamapR^ichChan kathaM dR^iShTiM prAptosi?
They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees [Separated].
14 tataH sa kathitavAn sa pa Nkena mama netre. alimpat pashchAd snAtvA dR^iShTimalabhe|
It was a Sabbath ·To cease· when Yeshua [Salvation] made the mud and opened his eyes.
15 kintu yIshu rvishrAmavAre karddamaM kR^itvA tasya nayane prasanne. akarod itikAraNAt katipayaphirUshino. avadan
Again therefore the Pharisees [Separated] also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”
16 sa pumAn IshvarAnna yataH sa vishrAmavAraM na manyate| tatonye kechit pratyavadan pApI pumAn kim etAdR^isham AshcharyyaM karmma karttuM shaknoti?
Some therefore of the Pharisees [Separated] said, “This man is not from God, because he does not keep the Sabbath ·To cease·.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner ·devoted to missing the mark and without share in the goal· do such signs?” There was division among them.
17 itthaM teShAM parasparaM bhinnavAkyatvam abhavat| pashchAt te punarapi taM pUrvvAndhaM mAnuSham aprAkShuH yo janastava chakShuShI prasanne kR^itavAn tasmin tvaM kiM vadasi? sa ukttavAn sa bhavishadvAdI|
Therefore they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
18 sa dR^iShTim AptavAn iti yihUdIyAstasya dR^iShTiM prAptasya janasya pitro rmukhAd ashrutvA na pratyayan|
The Jews [Praisers] therefore did not trust concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,
19 ataeva te tAvapR^ichChan yuvayo ryaM putraM janmAndhaM vadathaH sa kimayaM? tarhIdAnIM kathaM draShTuM shaknoti?
and asked them, “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”
20 tatastasya pitarau pratyavochatAm ayam AvayoH putra A janerandhashcha tadapyAvAM jAnIvaH
His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
21 kintvadhunA kathaM dR^iShTiM prAptavAn tadAvAM n jAnIvaH kosya chakShuShI prasanne kR^itavAn tadapi na jAnIva eSha vayaHprApta enaM pR^ichChata svakathAM svayaM vakShyati|
but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”
22 yihUdIyAnAM bhayAt tasya pitarau vAkyamidam avadatAM yataH kopi manuShyo yadi yIshum abhiShiktaM vadati tarhi sa bhajanagR^ihAd dUrIkAriShyate yihUdIyA iti mantraNAm akurvvan
His parents said these things because they feared the Jews [Praisers]; for the Jews [Praisers] had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Messiah [Anointed one], he would be put out of the synagogue.
23 atastasya pitarau vyAharatAm eSha vayaHprApta enaM pR^ichChata|
Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”
24 tadA te punashcha taM pUrvvAndham AhUya vyAharan Ishvarasya guNAn vada eSha manuShyaH pApIti vayaM jAnImaH|
So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner ·devoted to missing the mark and without share in the goal·.”
25 tadA sa ukttavAn sa pApI na veti nAhaM jAne pUrvAmandha Asamaham adhunA pashyAmIti mAtraM jAnAmi|
He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner ·devoted to missing the mark and without share in the goal·. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
26 te punarapR^ichChan sa tvAM prati kimakarot? kathaM netre prasanne. akarot?
They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”
27 tataH sovAdId ekakR^itvokathayaM yUyaM na shR^iNutha tarhi kutaH punaH shrotum ichChatha? yUyamapi kiM tasya shiShyA bhavitum ichChatha?
He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”
28 tadA te taM tiraskR^itya vyAharan tvaM tasya shiShyo vayaM mUsAH shiShyAH|
They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses [Drawn out].
29 mUsAvaktreNeshvaro jagAda tajjAnImaH kintveSha kutratyaloka iti na jAnImaH|
We know that God has spoken to Moses [Drawn out]. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”
30 sovadad eSha mama lochane prasanne. akarot tathApi kutratyaloka iti yUyaM na jAnItha etad AshcharyyaM bhavati|
The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.
31 IshvaraH pApinAM kathAM na shR^iNoti kintu yo janastasmin bhaktiM kR^itvA tadiShTakriyAM karoti tasyaiva kathAM shR^iNoti etad vayaM jAnImaH|
We know that God does not listen to sinners ·devoted to missing the mark and without share in the goal·, but if anyone is a worshiper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.
32 kopi manuShyo janmAndhAya chakShuShI adadAt jagadArambhAd etAdR^ishIM kathAM kopi kadApi nAshR^iNot| (aiōn g165)
Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind. (aiōn g165)
33 asmAd eSha manuShyo yadIshvarAnnAjAyata tarhi ki nchidapIdR^ishaM karmma karttuM nAshaknot|
If this man was not from God, he could do nothing.”
34 te vyAharan tvaM pApAd ajAyathAH kimasmAn tvaM shikShayasi? pashchAtte taM bahirakurvvan|
They answered him, “You were altogether born in abstract sins ·miss the marks·, and do you teach us?” They threw him out.
35 tadanantaraM yihUdIyaiH sa bahirakriyata yIshuriti vArttAM shrutvA taM sAkShAt prApya pR^iShTavAn Ishvarasya putre tvaM vishvasiShi?
Yeshua [Salvation] heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, “Do you trust in the Ben-Elohim ·Son of Elohim God·?”
36 tadA sa pratyavochat he prabho sa ko yat tasminnahaM vishvasimi?
He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may trust in him?”
37 tato yIshuH kathitavAn tvaM taM dR^iShTavAn tvayA sAkaM yaH kathaM kathayati saeva saH|
Yeshua [Salvation] said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”
38 tadA he prabho vishvasimItyuktvA sa taM praNAmat|
He said, “Lord, I trust!” and he worshiped him.
39 pashchAd yIshuH kathitavAn nayanahInA nayanAni prApnuvanti nayanavantashchAndhA bhavantItyabhiprAyeNa jagadAham AgachCham|
Yeshua [Salvation] said, “I came into this world for judgment, that those who don’t see may see; and that those who see may become blind.”
40 etat shrutvA nikaTasthAH katipayAH phirUshino vyAharan vayamapi kimandhAH?
Those of the Pharisees [Separated] who were with him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?”
41 tadA yIshuravAdId yadyandhA abhavata tarhi pApAni nAtiShThan kintu pashyAmIti vAkyavadanAd yuShmAkaM pApAni tiShThanti|
Yeshua [Salvation] said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no abstract sin ·miss the mark·; but now you say, ‘We see.’ Therefore your abstract sin ·miss the mark· remains.
