< mathiḥ 9 >
1 anantaraṁ yīśu rnaukāmāruhya punaḥ pāramāgatya nijagrāmam āyayau|
And he entered the ship, and passed over and came to his own city.
2 tataḥ katipayā janā ēkaṁ pakṣāghātinaṁ svaṭṭōpari śāyayitvā tatsamīpam ānayan; tatō yīśustēṣāṁ pratītiṁ vijñāya taṁ pakṣāghātinaṁ jagāda, hē putra, susthirō bhava, tava kaluṣasya marṣaṇaṁ jātam|
And they brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And Jesus saw their faith, and said to the paralytic: Take courage, my son; thy sins are forgiven thee.
3 tāṁ kathāṁ niśamya kiyanta upādhyāyā manaḥsu cintitavanta ēṣa manuja īśvaraṁ nindati|
And some of the Scribes said in their minds, This man blasphemeth.
4 tataḥ sa tēṣām ētādr̥śīṁ cintāṁ vijñāya kathitavān, yūyaṁ manaḥsu kr̥ta ētādr̥śīṁ kucintāṁ kurutha?
But Jesus knew their thoughts: and he said to them, Why do ye think evil things in your heart?
5 tava pāpamarṣaṇaṁ jātaṁ, yadvā tvamutthāya gaccha, dvayōranayō rvākyayōḥ kiṁ vākyaṁ vaktuṁ sugamaṁ?
For, which is the easier, to say, Thy sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise and walk?
6 kintu mēdinyāṁ kaluṣaṁ kṣamituṁ manujasutasya sāmarthyamastīti yūyaṁ yathā jānītha, tadarthaṁ sa taṁ pakṣāghātinaṁ gaditavān, uttiṣṭha, nijaśayanīyaṁ ādāya gēhaṁ gaccha|
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath authority on earth to forgive sins, he said to the paralytic: Arise, take up thy bed, and go to thy home.
7 tataḥ sa tatkṣaṇād utthāya nijagēhaṁ prasthitavān|
And he arose and went to his home.
8 mānavā itthaṁ vilōkya vismayaṁ mēnirē, īśvarēṇa mānavāya sāmarthyam īdr̥śaṁ dattaṁ iti kāraṇāt taṁ dhanyaṁ babhāṣirē ca|
And when the multitudes saw it, they were struck with awe; and they praised God, who had given authority like this to men.
9 anantaraṁ yīśustatsthānād gacchan gacchan karasaṁgrahasthānē samupaviṣṭaṁ mathināmānam ēkaṁ manujaṁ vilōkya taṁ babhāṣē, mama paścād āgaccha, tataḥ sa utthāya tasya paścād vavrāja|
And as Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man sitting at the custom-house, whose name was Matthew. And he said to him, Follow me: and he arose and followed him.
10 tataḥ paraṁ yīśau gr̥hē bhōktum upaviṣṭē bahavaḥ karasaṁgrāhiṇaḥ kaluṣiṇaśca mānavā āgatya tēna sākaṁ tasya śiṣyaiśca sākam upaviviśuḥ|
And as they were reclining in a house, many publicans an sinners came and reclined with Jesus and his disciples.
11 phirūśinastad dr̥ṣṭvā tasya śiṣyān babhāṣirē, yuṣmākaṁ guruḥ kiṁ nimittaṁ karasaṁgrāhibhiḥ kaluṣibhiśca sākaṁ bhuṁktē?
And when the Pharisees saw it they said to his disciples, Why doth your Rabbi eat with publicans and sinners?
12 yīśustat śrutvā tān pratyavadat, nirāmayalōkānāṁ cikitsakēna prayōjanaṁ nāsti, kintu sāmayalōkānāṁ prayōjanamāstē|
And as Jesus heard it, he said to them: They who are in health have no need of a physician, but they that are very sick.
13 atō yūyaṁ yātvā vacanasyāsyārthaṁ śikṣadhvam, dayāyāṁ mē yathā prīti rna tathā yajñakarmmaṇi|yatō'haṁ dhārmmikān āhvātuṁ nāgatō'smi kintu manaḥ parivarttayituṁ pāpina āhvātum āgatō'smi|
Go and learn what that is: I require compassion, and not a sacrifice! For I did not come to call the righteous, but the sinful.
14 anantaraṁ yōhanaḥ śiṣyāstasya samīpam āgatya kathayāmāsuḥ, phirūśinō vayañca punaḥ punarupavasāmaḥ, kintu tava śiṣyā nōpavasanti, kutaḥ?
Then came to him the disciples of John, and said: Why do we and the Pharisees fast much and thy disciples fast not?
15 tadā yīśustān avōcat yāvat sakhīnāṁ saṁṅgē kanyāyā varastiṣṭhati, tāvat kiṁ tē vilāpaṁ karttuṁ śakluvanti? kintu yadā tēṣāṁ saṁṅgād varaṁ nayanti, tādr̥śaḥ samaya āgamiṣyati, tadā tē upavatsyanti|
Jesus said to them: Can the children of the nuptial chamber fast, so long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and then they will fast.
16 purātanavasanē kōpi navīnavastraṁ na yōjayati, yasmāt tēna yōjitēna purātanavasanaṁ chinatti tacchidrañca bahukutsitaṁ dr̥śyatē|
No one inserteth a piece of new cloth on an old garment; lest that which filleth up, tear from that garment, and the rent become greater.
17 anyañca purātanakutvāṁ kōpi navānagōstanīrasaṁ na nidadhāti, yasmāt tathā kr̥tē kutū rvidīryyatē tēna gōstanīrasaḥ patati kutūśca naśyati; tasmāt navīnāyāṁ kutvāṁ navīnō gōstanīrasaḥ sthāpyatē, tēna dvayōravanaṁ bhavati|
And they do not put new wine into old sacks; lest the sacks burst, and the wine run out, and the sacks perish. But they put new wine into new sacks and they are both preserved.
18 aparaṁ tēnaitatkathākathanakālē ēkō'dhipatistaṁ praṇamya babhāṣē, mama duhitā prāyēṇaitāvatkālē mr̥tā, tasmād bhavānāgatya tasyā gātrē hastamarpayatu, tēna sā jīviṣyati|
And while he was thus discoursing with them a certain ruler came, drew near, worshipped him and said: My daughter is already dead, but come lay thy hand upon her, and she will live.
19 tadānīṁ yīśuḥ śiṣyaiḥ sākam utthāya tasya paścād vavrāja|
And Jesus rose up, and his disciples; and they followed him.
20 ityanantarē dvādaśavatsarān yāvat pradarāmayēna śīrṇaikā nārī tasya paścād āgatya tasya vasanasya granthiṁ pasparśa;
And behold, a woman whose blood had flowed fourteen years, came up behind him, and touched the extremity of his robe:
21 yasmāt mayā kēvalaṁ tasya vasanaṁ spr̥ṣṭvā svāsthyaṁ prāpsyatē, sā nārīti manasi niścitavatī|
for she had said in her mind, If I but touch his garment I shall be cured.
22 tatō yīśurvadanaṁ parāvarttya tāṁ jagāda, hē kanyē, tvaṁ susthirā bhava, tava viśvāsastvāṁ svasthāmakārṣīt| ētadvākyē gaditaēva sā yōṣit svasthābhūt|
And Jesus turned himself, looked at her, and said to her: Take courage, my daughter; thy faith hath given thee life. And the woman was cured from that very hour.
23 aparaṁ yīśustasyādhyakṣasya gēhaṁ gatvā vādakaprabhr̥tīn bahūn lōkān śabdāyamānān vilōkya tān avadat,
And Jesus came to the house of the ruler: and he saw there pipers, and multitudes making outcry.
24 panthānaṁ tyaja, kanyēyaṁ nāmriyata nidritāstē; kathāmētāṁ śrutvā tē tamupajahasuḥ|
And he said to them: Retire; for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they scoffed at him.
25 kintu sarvvēṣu bahiṣkr̥tēṣu sō'bhyantaraṁ gatvā kanyāyāḥ karaṁ dhr̥tavān, tēna sōdatiṣṭhat;
And when he had ejected the throngs, he entered in, and took her by the hand, and the maid rose up.
26 tatastatkarmmaṇō yaśaḥ kr̥tsnaṁ taṁ dēśaṁ vyāptavat|
And the fame of this thing spread in all that land.
27 tataḥ paraṁ yīśustasmāt sthānād yātrāṁ cakāra; tadā hē dāyūdaḥ santāna, asmān dayasva, iti vadantau dvau janāvandhau prōcairāhūyantau tatpaścād vavrajatuḥ|
And when Jesus had passed from there, two blind men followed after him, and said: Have mercy on us, Thou Son of David!
28 tatō yīśau gēhamadhyaṁ praviṣṭaṁ tāvapi tasya samīpam upasthitavantau, tadānīṁ sa tau pr̥ṣṭavān karmmaitat karttuṁ mama sāmarthyam āstē, yuvāṁ kimiti pratīthaḥ? tadā tau pratyūcatuḥ, satyaṁ prabhō|
And when he had entered a house, those blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them: Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said to him, Yes, our Lord.
29 tadānīṁ sa tayō rlōcanāni spr̥śan babhāṣē, yuvayōḥ pratītyanusārād yuvayō rmaṅgalaṁ bhūyāt| tēna tatkṣaṇāt tayō rnētrāṇi prasannānyabhavan,
Then he touched their eyes, and said: As ye have believed, so shall it be to you.
30 paścād yīśustau dr̥ḍhamājñāpya jagāda, avadhattam ētāṁ kathāṁ kōpi manujō ma jānīyāt|
And forthwith their eyes were opened. And Jesus charged them and said: See, that no man know of it.
31 kintu tau prasthāya tasmin kr̥tsnē dēśē tasya kīrttiṁ prakāśayāmāsatuḥ|
But they went out and spread the fame of it in all that land.
32 aparaṁ tau bahiryāta ētasminnantarē manujā ēkaṁ bhūtagrastamūkaṁ tasya samīpam ānītavantaḥ|
And as Jesus went out, they brought to him a dumb man in whom was a demon.
33 tēna bhūtē tyājitē sa mūkaḥ kathāṁ kathayituṁ prārabhata, tēna janā vismayaṁ vijñāya kathayāmāsuḥ, isrāyēlō vaṁśē kadāpi nēdr̥gadr̥śyata;
And when the demon had gone out, the dumb man conversed. And the multitudes admired, and said: Never was it so seen in Israel!
34 kintu phirūśinaḥ kathayāñcakruḥ bhūtādhipatinā sa bhūtān tyājayati|
But the Pharisees said: It is by the Prince of demons, he casteth out demons.
35 tataḥ paraṁ yīśustēṣāṁ bhajanabhavana upadiśan rājyasya susaṁvādaṁ pracārayan lōkānāṁ yasya ya āmayō yā ca pīḍāsīt, tān śamayan śamayaṁśca sarvvāṇi nagarāṇi grāmāṁśca babhrāma|
And Jesus traveled over all the cities and the villages: and he taught in their synagogues, and proclaimed the tidings of the kingdom, and healed all diseases and all pains.
36 anyañca manujān vyākulān arakṣakamēṣāniva ca tyaktān nirīkṣya tēṣu kāruṇikaḥ san śiṣyān avadat,
And when Jesus looked on the multitudes, he pitied them; because they were wearied and dispersed, like sheep that have no shepherd.
37 śasyāni pracurāṇi santi, kintu chēttāraḥ stōkāḥ|
And he said to his disciples, The harvest is great, and the laborers few.
38 kṣētraṁ pratyaparān chēdakān prahētuṁ śasyasvāminaṁ prārthayadhvam|
Entreat, therefore, of the Lord of the harvest, that he would send laborers into his harvest.
