Cântarea lui Solomon 3
1 Noaptea, în patul meu, l-am căutat pe cel pe care sufletul meu îl iubeşte; l-am căutat dar nu l-am găsit.
[SHE] Upon my couch, in the night-time, sought I the beloved of my soul, —I sought him, but found him not.
2 Mă voi ridica acum şi voi cutreiera cetatea pe străzi; şi pe căile largi îl voi căuta pe cel pe care sufletul meu îl iubeşte; l-am căutat, dar nu l-am găsit.
Come! I must arise, and go about in the city, In the paths and in the broadways, I must seek the beloved of my soul, —I sought him, but found him not.
3 Paznicii care cutreieră cetatea m-au găsit; lor le-am spus: L-aţi văzut pe cel pe care îl iubeşte sufletul meu?
The watchmen that go round in the city, found me, The beloved of my soul, have ye seen?
4 Am trecut doar puţin de ei şi l-am găsit pe cel pe care îl iubeşte sufletul meu; l-am apucat şi nu l-am lăsat să plece, până când nu l-am adus în casa mamei mele şi în camera celei care m-a conceput.
Scarcely had I passed from them, when I found the beloved of my soul, —I caught him, and would not let him go, until that I had brought him into the house of my mother, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.
5 Vă conjur, fiice ale Ierusalimului, pe căprioarele şi pe cerboaicele câmpului, nu stârniţi, nici nu treziţi iubirea mea, până când îi place lui.
[HE] I adjure you ye, daughters of Jerusalem, by the gazelles, or by the hinds of the field, —That ye wake not, nor arouse, the dear love until she please.
6 Cine este acesta care vine din pustie ca nişte coloane de fum, parfumat cu mir şi tămâie, cu toate fardurile comerciantului?
[THEY] Who is this, coming up out of the wilderness, like pillars of smoke, —with perfume of myrrh, and frankincense, besides all the aromatic powder of the merchant?
7 Iată, patul lui, care este al lui Solomon; şaizeci de viteji sunt în jurul lui, dintre cei viteji din Israel.
Lo! his couch,’tis Solomon’s own, Threescore heroes, around it, —of the heroes of Israel:
8 Ei toţi sunt înarmaţi cu săbii, fiind deprinşi la război; fiecare bărbat îşi are sabia la coapsă, de teama din noapte.
All of them, grasping the sword, trained for war, —every man, with his sword upon his thigh, because of dread, in the night-time.
9 Împăratul Solomon şi-a făcut un car din lemnul Libanului.
A palanquin, King Solomon made himself, of the trees of Lebanon:
10 El i-a făcut stâlpii din argint, baza lui din aur, acoperitoarea lui din purpură, mijlocul lui fiind ţesut cu iubire, pentru fiicele Ierusalimului.
The supports thereof, made he of silver, the couch thereof, of gold, the seat thereof, of purple, —the midst thereof, hath an inlay of love from the daughters of Jerusalem.
11 Mergeţi înainte, fiice ale Sionului, şi priviți-l pe împăratul Solomon cu coroana cu care mama lui l-a încoronat în ziua logodirilor lui şi în ziua veseliei inimii lui.
Go forth and gaze, ye daughters of Zion, upon King Solomon, —wearing the crown, wherewith his mother, crowned him, in the day of his marriage, and in the day of his heart gladness.
