Ieremia 9
1 De s-ar preface în ape, capul meu, și o fântână de lacrimi, ochii mei, ca să plâng zi și noapte pentru cei uciși ai fiicei poporului meu!
Oh that my head were waters, And mine eyes a fountain of tears, —That I might weep day and night, For the slain of the daughter of my people!
2 De aș fi avut în pustie un loc de găzduire pentru călători; ca să las pe poporul meu și să plec de la ei! Pentru că ei toți sunt adulteri, o adunare de oameni perfizi.
Oh that I had in the wilderness, a wayfarers’ lodge, That I might leave my people, and go from them, —For they all, are Adulterers, An assemblage of traitors;
3 Și ei își încordează limbile, arcul lor de minciuni; dar nu sunt viteji pentru adevărul de pe pământ, pentru că merg din rău în rău și nu mă cunosc, spune DOMNUL.
Who have prepared their tongue as their bow of falsehood, And, not by faithfulness, have they become mighty in the land, —For from wickedness unto wickedness, have they gone forth, But me, have they not known, Declareth Yahweh.
4 Luați bine seama, fiecare la aproapele său, și să nu vă încredeți în niciun frate, pentru că fiecare frate va piedica mult și fiecare prieten va umbla cu defăimări.
Every one, of his neighbour, beware ye, And in no brother, may ye trust, —For, every brother, supplanteth! And every neighbour, as a tale-bearer, goeth about;
5 Și fiecare va înșela pe aproapele său și nu va vorbi adevărul; și-au învățat limba să vorbească minciuni și se obosesc ca să facă nelegiuire.
Yea, every one, of his neighbour, maketh a dupe, And, truth, they do not speak, —They have taught their tongue to speak falsehood, In acting perversely, they have wearied themselves.
6 Locuința ta este în mijlocul înșelăciunii; prin înșelăciune ei refuză să mă cunoască, spune DOMNUL.
Thy dwelling, is in the midst of deceit, —Through deceit, have they rejected the knowledge of, me, Declareth Yahweh.
7 De aceea astfel spune DOMNUL oștirilor: Iată, îi voi topi și îi voi încerca, pentru că ce altceva aș putea face pentru fiica poporului meu?
Therefore, thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Behold me! melting them, so will I try them, —For how else should I do because of the wickedness of the daughter of my people?
8 Limba lor este precum o săgeată trasă, vorbește înșelăciune; unul vorbește pașnic cu gura lui aproapelui său, dar în inima lui el își întinde cursa.
A pointed arrow, is their tongue Deceit, hath it spoken, —With his mouth peace unto his neighbour, doth one speak, But within himself, he layeth his ambush.
9 Să nu îi cercetez eu pentru acestea? spune DOMNUL; să nu fie sufletul meu răzbunat pe o națiune ca aceasta?
For these things, shall I not bring punishment on them? Demandeth Yahweh, —On a nation such as this, must not my soul avenge herself!
10 Pentru munți voi ridica plânset și bocet; și o plângere pentru locuințele pustiei, deoarece sunt arse de tot, încât nimeni nu poate trece prin ele; nici nu se poate auzi vocea vitelor; deopotrivă pasărea cerurilor și fiara au fugit; s-au dus.
Over the mountains, will I take up a weeping and wailing, And over the oases of the desert, a dirge, For they have been burned, so that no man passeth through, Neither have men heard the lowing of cattle, —Both the bird of the heavens and the beast have fled, have gone their way:
11 Și eu voi face Ierusalimul ruine și o vizuină de dragoni; și voi face cetățile lui Iuda un pustiu, fără vreun locuitor.
Thus will I give up Jerusalem To heaps, A habitation for jackals, —And the cities of Judah, will I give up to desolation, without inhabitant.
12 Cine este omul înțelept, ca să înțeleagă aceasta? Și cui i-a vorbit gura DOMNULUI, ca să vestească aceasta, pentru ce a pierit țara și a ars ca o pustie, încât nimeni nu trece prin ea?
Who, is the man that is wise That he may discern this? And, unto whom, hath the mouth of Yahweh spoken, That he may declare it? For what cause Hath the land perished, Hath it been burned as a wilderness that no man passeth through?
13 Și DOMNUL spune: Deoarece ei au părăsit legea mea pe care am pus-o înaintea lor, și nu au ascultat de vocea mea, nici nu au umblat în aceasta;
Then said Yahweh, —Because they have forsaken my law, which I set before them, —And have not hearkened to hay voice neither walked therein;
14 Ci au umblat după închipuirea inimii lor proprii și după Baali precum i-au învățat părinții lor;
But have gone their way, After the stubbornness of their own heart, —And after the Baals which their fathers taught them,
15 De aceea astfel spune DOMNUL oștirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: Iată, voi hrăni acest popor cu pelin și le voi da să bea apă cu fiere.
Therefore, Thus saith Yahweh of hosts, The God of Israel, Behold me! Feeding them, even this people, with wormwood, —And I will cause them to drink, poisoned water;
16 Îi voi împrăștia printre păgâni, pe care nici ei nici părinții lor nu i-au cunoscut; și voi trimite o sabie după ei, până îi voi fi mistuit.
And will scatter them among the nations, which neither they nor their fathers, have known, —And will send after them the sword, until I have consumed them.
17 Astfel spune DOMNUL oștirilor: Luați aminte și chemați femeile care jelesc, și ele să vină; și trimiteți după femei iscusite, și ele să vină;
Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, Consider ye diligently and call for the wailing women that they may come, —And unto the wise women, send ye, that they may come;
18 Și să se grăbească ele și să înalțe un bocet pentru noi, ca din ochii noștri să curgă lacrimi și din pleoapele noastre să țâșnească ape.
Yea let them make haste, and lift up over us a wailing, —That our eyes, may run down, with tears, And, our eyelashes, stream down with water; —
19 Fiindcă o voce de jale se aude din Sion: Cum suntem prădați! Suntem foarte încurcați, deoarece am părăsit țara, deoarece locuințele noastre ne-au lepădat.
Yea, a voice of wailing, hath been heard out of Zion How are we ruined! We have turned very pale For we have left the land, For they have cast down our habitations.
20 Totuși ascultați cuvântul DOMNULUI, voi femeilor, și să primească urechea voastră cuvântul gurii lui și învățați-le pe fiicele voastre bocetul și fiecare, pe vecina ei, plângerea.
For hear O ye women the word of Yahweh, And let your ear take in the word of his mouth, —And teach your daughters a wail, Yea each woman—her neighbour, a dirge: —
21 Pentru că moartea s-a urcat prin ferestrele noastre și a intrat în palatele noastre, pentru a-i stârpi pe copiii de afară și pe tinerii de pe străzi.
That death Hath come up through our windows, Hath entered our palaces, —Cutting off The boy from the street, The young men from the broadways.
22 Vorbește: Astfel spune DOMNUL: Chiar trupurile moarte ale oamenilor vor cădea ca balega pe câmpul deschis și ca snopul după secerător și nimeni nu le va aduna.
Speak thou, Thus, declareth Yahweh, So shall fall the dead bodies of men, Like dung heaps on the face of the field, —And like swaths after the harvestman, With none to gather.
23 Astfel spune DOMNUL: Să nu se laude înțeleptul cu înțelepciunea lui, nici cel puternic să nu se fălească cu puterea lui, bogatul să nu se fălească în bogățiile lui;
Thus, saith Yahweh Let not, the wise man, glory in his wisdom, Neither let, the mighty man, glory, in his might, —Let not, the rich man, glory in his riches;
24 Ci cel ce se fălește să se fălească cu aceasta: că înțelege și că mă cunoaște, că eu sunt DOMNUL, care lucrez cu bunătate iubitoare, care fac judecată și dreptate pe pământ, pentru că în acestea mă desfătez, spune DOMNUL.
But, in this, let the glorying one glory—In having intelligence and in knowing me, That, I, am Yahweh, Executing lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, —That in these things, I delight Declareth Yahweh.
25 Iată, vin zilele, spune DOMNUL, că îi voi pedepsi pe toți cei circumciși împreună cu cei necircumciși;
Lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, —When I will bring punishment upon every one circumcised, With him that is uncircumcised:
26 Egiptul și Iuda și Edom și copiii lui Amon și Moab și toți cei din cele mai îndepărtate colțuri, care locuiesc în pustie, pentru că toate aceste națiuni sunt necircumcise și toată casa lui Israel este necircumcisă în inimă.
Upon Egypt and upon Judah, And upon Edom, and upon the sons of Ammon, And upon Moab, And upon all the clipped beards, The dwellers in the desert, —For, all the nations, are uncircumcised, And, all the house of Israel, are uncircumcised in heart.
