Romanos 4
1 O que diremos então que Abraão, nosso antepassado, encontrou de acordo com a carne?
What then shall we say that our father Abraham discovered, as a man?
2 Pois se Abraão foi justificado pelas obras, ele tem algo de que se vangloriar, mas não para com Deus.
If Abraham was really justified by works, he has a boast—but not before God.
3 Para que diz a Escritura? “Abraão acreditou em Deus, e isso lhe foi imputado como justiça”.
So what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”
4 Agora, para aquele que trabalha, a recompensa não é contada como graça, mas como algo devido.
Now to him who works, the pay is not counted as a gift but as an obligation.
5 Mas para aquele que não trabalha, mas acredita naquele que justifica o ímpio, sua fé é contabilizada como justiça.
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.
6 Mesmo quando Davi também pronuncia a bênção sobre o homem a quem Deus conta com a justiça à parte das obras:
Just as David speaks of the blessing of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 “Abençoados são aqueles cujas iniquidades são perdoadas, cujos pecados são cobertos.
“Blessed are they whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, and whose sins have been covered up.
8 Bendito é o homem que o Senhor de modo algum acusará de pecado”.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin!”
9 Esta bênção é então pronunciada apenas sobre os circuncidados, ou também sobre os não circuncidados? Pois dizemos que a fé foi atribuída a Abraão pela retidão.
Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? Since we say that faith was credited to Abraham as righteousness,
10 Como, então, foi contada? Quando ele estava na circuncisão, ou na incircuncisão? Não na circuncisão, mas na incircuncisão.
how then was it credited? After he was circumcised or while still uncircumcised? Not circumcised, but uncircumcised!
11 Ele recebeu o sinal da circuncisão, um selo da retidão da fé que ele tinha enquanto estava na incircuncisão, para que ele pudesse ser o pai de todos aqueles que acreditam, embora possam estar na incircuncisão, que a retidão também poderia ser contabilizada a eles.
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness from his faith while still uncircumcised, so that he might be the father of all those who believe while uncircumcised, in order that this righteousness may be credited to them also,
12 Ele é o pai da circuncisão para aqueles que não só são da circuncisão, mas que também caminham nos passos dessa fé de nosso pai Abraão, que ele teve na incircuncisão.
and the father of the circumcised—not only those who are circumcised, but especially those who follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham while still uncircumcised.
13 Pois a promessa a Abraão e a sua descendência de que ele seria herdeiro do mundo não foi feita através da lei, mas através da justiça da fé.
Now the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham, or his seed, through law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 Pois se aqueles que são da lei são herdeiros, a fé é anulada, e a promessa é feita sem efeito.
For if those who are of law are heirs, the faith is made empty and the promise has been invalidated;
15 Pois a lei produz a ira; pois onde não há lei, também não há desobediência.
because the law produces wrath, since where there is no law neither is there transgression.
16 Por esta causa é de fé, que seja de acordo com a graça, para que a promessa seja certa para todos os descendentes, não só para aquilo que é da lei, mas também para aquilo que é da fé de Abraão, que é o pai de todos nós.
For this reason it is of faith so that it may be according to grace, in order that the promise be guaranteed to all the seed—not only to those of law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all;
17 Como está escrito: “Fiz de você um pai de muitas nações”. Isto é na presença daquele em quem ele acreditava: Deus, que dá vida aos mortos, e chama as coisas que não são, como se fossem.
just as it is written: “I have made you a father of many ethnic nations”—in the presence of Him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead and calls the nonexistent things as though they did exist.
18 Contra a esperança, Abraão na esperança acreditava, até o fim, que ele poderia se tornar pai de muitas nações, de acordo com o que foi dito: “Assim será a sua descendência”.
Contrary to hope, Abraham in hope believed, so as to become a father of many ethnic nations, according to what had been spoken: “So shall your seed be.”
19 Sem estar enfraquecido na fé, ele não considerava seu próprio corpo, já desgastado, (tendo cerca de cem anos de idade), e a morte do ventre de Sara.
And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (being about a hundred years old), or the deadness of Sarah's womb.
20 Ainda assim, olhando para a promessa de Deus, ele não vacilou pela descrença, mas se fortaleceu pela fé, dando glória a Deus,
He did not waver at God's promise in unbelief; rather, he was strengthened by the faith, giving glory to God,
21 e estando plenamente seguro de que o que ele havia prometido, ele também era capaz de realizar.
being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform
22 Portanto, também foi “creditado a ele pela retidão”.
—that is why it was credited to him as righteousness.
23 Agora não estava escrito que lhe foi atribuído somente por causa dele,
Now it was not only for his sake that it was written that it was credited to him,
24 mas também por causa de nós, a quem será atribuído, que cremos naquele que ressuscitou Jesus nosso Senhor dos mortos,
but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, we who believe on Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 que foi entregue por nossas ofensas, e que foi ressuscitado por nossa justificação.
who was delivered up because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.
