Provérbios 4
1 Ouvi, filhos, a correção do pai; e prestai atenção, para que conheçais o entendimento.
Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, And attend, that ye may learn understanding!
2 Pois eu vos dou boa doutrina; não deixeis a minha lei.
For I give you good instruction; Forsake ye not my commandments.
3 Porque eu era filho do meu pai; tenro, e único perante a face de minha mãe.
For I was my father's son, A tender and only child in the sight of my mother.
4 E ele me ensinava, e me dizia: Que teu coração retenha minhas palavras; guarda meus mandamentos, e vive.
He taught me, and said to me, Let thy heart hold fast my words; Keep my commandments, and live.
5 Adquire sabedoria, adquire entendimento; [e] não te esqueças nem te desvies das palavras de minha boca.
Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, and depart not from, the words of my mouth.
6 Não a abandones, e ela te guardará; ama-a, e ela te conservará.
Forsake her not, and she will guard thee: Love her, and she will preserve thee.
7 O principal é a sabedoria; adquire sabedoria, e acima de tudo o que adquirires, adquire entendimento.
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore gain wisdom, And with all thy gain, gain understanding.
8 Exalta-a, e ela te exaltará; quando tu a abraçares, ela te honrará.
Exalt her, and she will promote thee; She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her;
9 Ela dará a tua cabeça um ornamento gracioso; ela te entregará uma bela coroa.
She will give to thy head a graceful wreath, A beautiful crown will she bestow upon thee.
10 Ouve, filho meu, e recebe minhas palavras; e elas te acrescentarão anos de vida.
Hear, O my son! and receive my sayings! So shall the years of thy life be many.
11 Eu te ensino no caminho da sabedoria; [e] te faço andar pelos percursos direitos.
I have taught thee the way of wisdom, I have guided thee in the right path.
12 Quando tu andares, teus passos não se estreitarão; e se tu correres, não tropeçarás.
When thou goest, thy steps shall not be confined; And, when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13 Toma a correção para si, e não [a] largues; guarda-a, porque ela [é] tua vida.
Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go; Keep her, for she is thy life.
14 Não entres pela vereda dos perversos, nem andes pelo caminho dos maus.
Enter not into the path of the wicked, And go not in the way of evil men;
15 Rejeita-o! Não passes por ele; desvia-te dele, e passa longe.
Avoid it, pass not upon it, Turn from it, and go away.
16 Pois eles não dormem se não fizerem o mal; e ficam sem sono, se não fizerem tropeçar [a alguém].
For they sleep not, unless they have done mischief; Yea, their sleep is taken away, unless they have caused some to fall.
17 Porque comem pão da maldade, e bebem vinho de violências.
For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.
18 Mas o caminho dos justos é como a luz brilhante, que vai, e ilumina até o dia [ficar claro] por completo.
But the path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, Which groweth brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.
19 O caminho dos perversos é como a escuridão; não sabem nem em que tropeçam.
The way of the wicked is as thick darkness; They know not at what they stumble.
20 Filho meu, presta atenção às minhas palavras; e ouve as minhas instruções.
My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear to my sayings;
21 Não as deixes ficarem longe de teus olhos; guarda-as no meio de teu coração.
Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart!
22 Porque são vida para aqueles que as encontram; e saúde para todo o seu corpo.
For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
23 Acima de tudo o que se deve guardar, guarda o teu coração; porque dele [procedem] as saídas da vida.
More than any thing which thou watchest, watch thy heart; For from it goeth forth life.
24 Afasta de ti a perversidade da boca; e põe longe de ti a corrupção dos lábios.
Put away from thee a deceitful mouth, And remove far from thee perverse lips.
25 Teus olhos olhem direito; tuas pálpebras estejam corretas diante de ti.
Let thine eyes look straight forward, And thine eyelids be directed before thee.
26 Pondera o curso de teus pés; e todos os teus caminhos sejam bem ordenados.
Give heed to the path of thy foot, And let all thy ways be steadfast.
27 Não te desvies nem para a direita, nem para a esquerda; afasta teus pés do mal.
Turn not to the right hand or to the left; Remove thy foot from evil.
