1 Reis 1

1 Quando o rei Davi era velho, e de idade avançada, cobriam-lhe de roupas, mas não se aquecia.

Now king David was old, and advanced in years: and when he was covered with clothes, he was not warm.

2 Disseram-lhe portanto seus servos: Busquem a meu senhor o rei uma moça virgem, para que esteja diante do rei, e o abrigue, e durma a seu lado, e aquecerá a meu senhor o rei.

His servants therefore said to him: Let us seek for our lord the king, a young virgin, and let her stand before the king, and cherish him, and sleep in his bosom, and warm our lord the king.

3 E buscaram uma moça formosa por todo o termo de Israel, e acharam a Abisague sunamita, e trouxeram-na ao rei.

So they sought a beautiful young woman in all the coasts of Israel, and they found Abisag a Sunamitess, and brought her to the king.

4 E a moça era formosa, a qual aquecia ao rei, e lhe servia: mas o rei nunca a conheceu.

And the damsel was exceeding beautiful, and she slept with the king: and served him, but the king did not know her.

5 Então Adonias filho de Hagite se levantou, dizendo: Eu reinarei. E preparou carros e cavaleiros, e cinquenta homens que corressem adiante dele.

And Adonias the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying: I will be king. And he made himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 E seu pai nunca o entristeceu em todos seus dias com dizer-lhe: Por que fazes assim? E também este era de bela aparência; e havia o gerado depois de Absalão.

Neither did his father rebuke him at any time, saying: Why hast thou done this? And he also was very beautiful, the next in birth after Absalom.

7 E tinha tratos com Joabe filho de Zeruia, e com Abiatar sacerdote, os quais ajudavam a Adonias.

And he conferred with Joab the son of Sarvia, and with Abiathar the priest, who furthered Adonias’s side.

8 Mas Zadoque sacerdote, e Benaia filho de Joiada, e Natã profeta, e Simei, e Reí, e todos os grandes de Davi, não seguiam a Adonias.

But Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Semei, and Rei, and the strength of David’s army was not with Adonias.

9 E matando Adonias ovelhas e vacas e animais engordados junto à penha de Zoelete, que está próxima da fonte de Rogel, convidou a todos seus irmãos os filhos do rei, e a todos os homens de Judá, servos do rei:

And Adonias having slain rams and calves, and all fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which was near the fountain Rogel, invited all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Juda, the king’s servants:

10 Mas não convidou a Natã profeta, nem a Benaia, nem aos grandes, nem a Salomão seu irmão.

But Nathan the prophet, and Banaias, and all the valiant men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not.

11 E falou Natã a Bate-Seba mãe de Salomão, dizendo: Não ouviste que reina Adonias filho de Hagite, sem sabê-lo Davi nosso senhor?

And Nathan said to Bethsabee the mother of Solomon: Hast thou not heard that Adonias the son of Haggith reigneth, and our lord David knoweth it not?

12 Vem pois agora, e toma meu conselho, para que guardes tua vida, e a vida de teu filho Salomão.

Now then come, take my counsel and save thy life, and the life of thy son Solomon.

13 Vai, e entra ao rei Davi, e dize-lhe: Rei senhor meu, não juraste tu à tua serva, dizendo: Salomão teu filho reinará depois de mim, e ele se sentará em meu trono? por que pois reina Adonias?

Go, and get thee in to king David, and say to him: Didst not thou, my lord O king, swear to me thy handmaid, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne? why then doth Adonias reign?

14 E estando tu ainda falando com o rei, eu entrarei atrás de ti, e acabarei teus argumentos.

And while thou art yet speaking there with the king, I will come in after thee, and will fill up thy words.

15 Então Bate-Seba entrou ao rei à câmara: e o rei era muito velho; e Abisague sunamita servia ao rei.

So Bethsabee went in to the king into the chamber: now the king was very old, and Abisag the Sunamitess ministered to him.

16 E Bate-Seba se inclinou, e fez reverência ao rei. E o rei disse: Que tens?

Bethsabee bowed herself, and worshipped the king. And the king said to her: What is thy will?

17 E ela lhe respondeu: Senhor meu, tu juraste à tua serva pelo SENHOR teu Deus, dizendo: Salomão teu filho reinará depois de mim, e ele se sentará em meu trono;

She answered and said: My lord, thou didst swear to thy handmaid by the Lord thy God, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.

18 E eis que agora Adonias reina: e tu, meu senhor rei, agora não o soubeste.

And behold now Adonias reigneth, and thou, my lord the king, knowest nothing of it.

19 Matou bois, e animais engordados, e muitas ovelhas, e convidou a todos os filhos do rei, e a Abiatar sacerdote, e a Joabe general do exército; mas a Salomão teu servo não convidou.

He hath killed oxen, and all fat cattle, and many rams, and invited all the king’s sons, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the general of the army: but Solomon thy servant he invited not.

20 Entretanto, rei senhor meu, os olhos de todo Israel estão sobre ti, para que lhes declares quem se há de sentar no trono de meu senhor o rei depois dele.

And now, my lord O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldst tell them, who shall sit on thy throne, my lord the king, after thee.

21 De outra sorte acontecerá, quando meu senhor o rei descansar com seus pais, que eu e meu filho Salomão seremos tidos por culpados.

Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king sleepeth with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

22 E estando ainda falando ela com o rei, eis que Natã profeta, que veio.

As she was yet speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet came.

23 E deram aviso ao rei, dizendo: Eis que Natã profeta: o qual quando entrou ao rei, prostrou-se diante do rei inclinando seu rosto à terra.

And they told the king, saying: Nathan the prophet is here. And when he was come in before the king, and had worshipped, bowing down to the ground,

24 E disse Natã: Rei senhor meu, disseste tu: Adonias reinará depois de mim, e ele se sentará em meu trono?

Nathan said: My lord O king, hast thou said: Let Adonias reign after me, and let him sit upon my throne?

25 Porque hoje desceu, e matou bois, e animais engordados, e muitas ovelhas, e convidou a todos os filhos do rei, e aos capitães do exército, e também a Abiatar sacerdote; e eis que, estão comendo e bebendo diante dele, e disseram: Viva o rei Adonias!

Because he is gone down today, and hath killed oxen, and fatlings, and many rams, and invited all the king’s sons, and the captains of the army, and Abiathar the priest: and they are eating and drinking before him, and saying: God save king Adonias:

26 Mas nem a mim teu servo, nem a Zadoque sacerdote, nem a Benaia filho de Joiada, nem a Salomão teu servo, convidou.

But me thy servant, and Sadoc the priest, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and Solomon thy servant he hath not invited.

27 É este negócio ordenado por meu senhor o rei, sem haver declarado a teu servo quem se havia de sentar no trono de meu senhor o rei depois dele?

Is this word come out from my lord the king, and hast thou not told me thy servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?

28 Então o rei Davi respondeu, e disse: Chamai-me a Bate-Seba. E ela entrou à presença do rei, e pôs-se diante do rei.

And king David answered and said: Call to me Bethsabee. And when she was come in to the king, and stood before him,

29 E o rei jurou, dizendo: Vive o SENHOR, que redimiu minha alma de toda angústia,

The king swore and said: As the Lord liveth, who hath delivered my soul out of all distress,

30 Que como eu te ei jurado pelo SENHOR Deus de Israel, dizendo: Teu filho Salomão reinará depois de mim, e ele se sentará em meu trono em lugar meu; que assim o farei hoje.

Even as I swore to thee by the Lord the God of Israel, saying: Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead, so will I do this day.

31 Então Bate-Seba se inclinou ao rei, seu rosto à terra, e fazendo reverência ao rei, disse: Viva meu senhor o rei Davi para sempre.

And Bethsabee bowing with her face to the earth worshipped the king, saying: May my lord David live for ever.

32 E o rei Davi disse: Chamai-me a Zadoque sacerdote, e a Natã profeta, e a Benaia filho de Joiada. E eles entraram à presença do rei.

King David also said: Call me Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaias the son of Joiada. And when they were come in before the king,

33 E o rei lhes disse: Tomai convosco os servos de vosso senhor, e fazei subir a Salomão meu filho em minha mula, e levai-o a Giom:

He said to them: Take with you the servants of your lord, and set my son Solomon upon my mule: and bring him to Gihon.

34 E ali o ungirão Zadoque sacerdote e Natã profeta por rei sobre Israel; e tocareis trombeta, dizendo: Viva o rei Salomão!

And let Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and you shall sound the trumpet, and shall say: God save king Solomon.

35 Depois ireis vós detrás dele, e virá e se sentará em meu trono, e ele reinará por mim; porque a ele ordenei para que seja príncipe sobre Israel e sobre Judá.

And you shall come up after him, and he shall come, and shall sit upon my throne, and he shall reign in my stead: and I will appoint him to be ruler over Israel, and over Juda.

36 Então Benaia filho de Joiada respondeu ao rei, e disse: Amém. Assim o diga o SENHOR, Deus de meu senhor o rei.

And Banaias the son of Joiada answered the king, saying: Amen: so say the Lord the God of my lord the king.

37 Da maneira que o SENHOR foi com meu senhor o rei, assim seja com Salomão; e ele faça maior seu trono que o trono de meu senhor o rei Davi.

As the Lord hath been with my lord the king, so be he with Solomon, and make his throne higher than the throne of my lord king David.

38 E desceu Zadoque sacerdote, e Natã profeta, e Benaia filho de Joiada, e os quereteus e os peleteus, e fizeram subir a Salomão na mula do rei Davi, e levaram-no a Giom.

So Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet went down, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi: and they set Solomon upon the mule of king David, and brought him to Gihon.

39 E tomando Zadoque sacerdote o chifre do azeite do tabernáculo, ungiu a Salomão: e tocaram trombeta, e disse todo o povo: Viva o rei Salomão!

And Sadoc the priest took a horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon: and they sounded the trumpet, and all the people said: God save king Solomon.

40 Depois subiu todo o povo depois dele, e cantava a gente com flautas, e faziam grandes alegrias, que parecia que a terra se fendia com o barulho deles.

And all the multitude went up after him, and the people played with pipes, and rejoiced with a great joy, and the earth rang with the noise of their cry.

41 E ouviu-o Adonias, e todos os convidados que com ele estavam, quando já haviam acabado de comer. E ouvindo Joabe o som da trombeta, disse: Por que se alvoroça a cidade com estrondo?

And Adonias, and all that were invited by him, heard it, and now the feast was at an end: Joab also hearing the sound of the trumpet, said: What meaneth this noise of the city in an uproar?

42 Estando ainda ele falando, eis que Jônatas, filho do sacerdote Abiatar, veio, ao qual Adonias disse: Entra, porque és homem digno, e trarás boas notícias.

While he yet spoke, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonias said to him: Come in, because thou art a valiant man, and bringest good news.

43 E Jônatas respondeu, e disse a Adonias: Certamente nosso senhor, o rei Davi, constituiu rei a Salomão;

And Jonathan answered Adonias: Not so: for our lord king David hath appointed Solomon king.

44 E o rei enviou com ele o sacerdote Zadoque o profeta Natã, Benaia, filho de Joiada, e também os quereteus e os peleteus, os quais lhe fizeram subir na mula do rei;

And hath sent with him Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Banaias the son of Joiada, and the Cerethi, and Phelethi, and they have set him upon the king’s mule.

45 E o sacerdote Zadoque e o profeta Natã o ungiram em Giom como rei, e dali subiram alegres, e a cidade está cheia de alvoroço. Este é o barulho que ouvistes.

And Sadoc the priest, and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are gone up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again: this is the noise that you have heard.

46 E também Salomão se assentou no trono do reino.

Moreover Solomon sitteth upon the throne of the kingdom,

47 E ainda os servos do rei vieram a bendizer ao nosso senhor, o rei Davi, dizendo: Deus faça o nome de Salomão melhor que o teu nome, e faça o seu trono maior que o teu. E o rei se inclinou no leito.

And the king’s servants going in have blessed our lord king David, saying: May God make the name of Solomon greater than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king adored in his bed:

48 E também o rei falou assim: Bendito seja o SENHOR, Deus de Israel, que hoje deu quem se assente em meu trono, vendo-o meus olhos.

And he said: Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, who hath given this day one to sit on my throne, my eyes seeing it.

49 Então se estremeceram, e levantaram-se todos os convidados que estavam com Adonias, e foi-se cada um por seu caminho.

Then all the guests of Adonias were afraid, and they all arose and every man went his way.

50 Mas Adonias, temendo da presença de Salomão, levantou-se e foi-se, e agarrou as pontas do altar.

And Adonias fearing Solomon, arose, and went, and took hold on the horn of the altar.

51 E foi feito saber a Salomão, dizendo: Eis que que Adonias tem medo do rei Salomão: pois agarrou as pontas do altar, dizendo: Jure-me hoje o rei Salomão que não matará à espada a seu servo.

And they told Solomon, saying: Behold Adonias, fearing king Solomon, hath taken hold of the horn of the altar, saying: Let king Solomon swear to me this day, that he will not kill his servant with the sword.

52 E Salomão disse: Se ele for virtuoso, nenhum de seus cabelos cairá em terra: mas se se achar mal nele, morrerá.

And Solomon said: If he be a good man, there shall not so much as one hair of his head fall to the ground: but if evil be found in him, he shall die.

53 E enviou o rei Salomão, e trouxeram-no do altar; e ele veio, e inclinou-se ao rei Salomão. E Salomão lhe disse: Vai-te à tua casa.

Then king Solomon sent, and brought him out from the altar: and going in he worshipped king Solomon: and Solomon said to him: Go to thy house.
