۱ 1 وای بر شهر خون ریز که تمامش از دروغ وقتل مملو است و غارت از آن دورنمی شود!

Woe to the bloody city! it [is] all full of lies [and] robbery; the prey departeth not;

۲ 2 آواز تازیانه‌ها و صدای غرغر چرخهاو جهیدن اسبان و جستن ارابه‌ها.

The noise of a whip, and the noise of the rattling of the wheels, and of the pransing horses, and of the jumping chariots.

۳ 3 سواران هجوم می‌آورند و شمشیرها براق و نیزه‌ها لامع می‌باشدو کثرت مجروحان و فراوانی مقتولان و لاشها راانتها نیست. بر لاشهای یکدیگر می‌افتند.

The horseman lifteth up both the bright sword and the glittering spear: and [there is] a multitude of slain, and a great number of carcases; and [there is] none end of [their] corpses; they stumble upon their corpses:

۴ 4 ازکثرت زنای زانیه خوش منظر که صاحب سحرهااست و امت‌ها را به زناهای خود و قبایل را به‌جادوگریهای خویش می‌فروشد.

Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts.

۵ 5 اینک یهوه صبایوت می‌گوید: «من به ضد تو هستم ودامنهایت را بر روی تو منکشف ساخته، عورت تو را بر امت‌ها و رسوایی تو را بر مملکت‌ها ظاهرخواهم ساخت.

Behold, I [am] against thee, saith the LORD of hosts; and I will discover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will shew the nations thy nakedness, and the kingdoms thy shame.

۶ 6 و نجاسات بر تو ریخته تو راذلیل خواهم ساخت و تو را عبرت خواهم گردانید.

And I will cast abominable filth upon thee, and make thee vile, and will set thee as a gazingstock.

۷ 7 و واقع خواهد شد که هر‌که تو را بیند ازتو فرار کرده، خواهد گفت: نینوا ویران شده است! کیست که برای وی ماتم گیرد و از کجا برای توتعزیه کنندگان بطلبم؟»

And it shall come to pass, [that] all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?

۸ 8 آیا تو از نوآمون بهتر هستی که در میان نهرهاساکن بوده، آبها او را احاطه می‌داشت که دریاحصار او و بحرها دیوار او می‌بود؟

Art thou better than populous No, that was situate among the rivers, [that had] the waters round about it, whose rampart [was] the sea, [and] her wall [was] from the sea?

۹ 9 حبش ومصر قوتش می‌بودند و آن انتها نداشت، فوط ولوبیم از معاونت کنندگان تو می‌بودند.

Ethiopia and Egypt [were] her strength, and [it was] infinite; Put and Lubim were thy helpers.

۱۰ 10 معهذاجلای وطن شده و به اسیری رفته است و اطفالش نیز بر سر هر کوچه کوبیده شده‌اند و بر شرفایش قرعه انداخته‌اند و جمیع بزرگانش به زنجیرهابسته شده‌اند.

Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.

۱۱ 11 پس تو نیز مست شده، خویشتن را پنهان خواهی کرد و ملجایی به‌سبب دشمن خواهی جست.

Thou also shalt be drunken: thou shalt be hid, thou also shalt seek strength because of the enemy.

۱۲ 12 جمیع قلعه هایت به درختان انجیر با نوبرها مشابه خواهد بود که چون تکانیده شود به دهان خورنده می‌افتد.

All thy strong holds [shall be like] fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater.

۱۳ 13 اینک اهل تو دراندرونت زنان می‌باشند. دروازه های زمینت برای دشمنانت بالکل گشاده شده، آتش پشت بندهایت را می‌سوزاند.

Behold, thy people in the midst of thee [are] women: the gates of thy land shall be set wide open unto thine enemies: the fire shall devour thy bars.

۱۴ 14 برای محاصره ات آب بیاور. قلعه های خودرا مستحکم ساز. به گل داخل شو و ملاط را پا بزن و کوره آجر پزی را مرمت نما.

Draw thee waters for the siege, fortify thy strong holds: go into clay, and tread the morter, make strong the brickkiln.

۱۵ 15 در آنجا آتش تو را خواهد سوزانید و شمشیر تو را منقطع ساخته، تو را مثل کرم خواهد خورد، خویشتن رامثل کرم کثیر کن و مثل ملخ بی‌شمار گردان.

There shall the fire devour thee; the sword shall cut thee off, it shall eat thee up like the cankerworm: make thyself many as the cankerworm, make thyself many as the locusts.

۱۶ 16 تاجرانت را از ستارگان آسمان زیادتر کردی. مثل کرمها تاراج می‌کنند و می‌پرند.

Thou hast multiplied thy merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and flieth away.

۱۷ 17 تاجداران تو مانند ملخهایند و سردارانت مانند انبوه جراداند که در روز سرد بر دیوارها فرود می‌آیند، اماچون آفتاب گرم شود می‌پرند و جای ایشان معلوم نیست که کجاست.

Thy crowned [are] as the locusts, and thy captains as the great grasshoppers, which camp in the hedges in the cold day, [but] when the sun ariseth they flee away, and their place is not known where they [are].

۱۸ 18 ‌ای پادشاه آشورشبانانت به خواب رفته و شرفایت خوابیده‌اند وقوم تو بر کوهها پراکنده شده، کسی نیست که ایشان را جمع کند.

Thy shepherds slumber, O king of Assyria: thy nobles shall dwell [in the dust: ] thy people is scattered upon the mountains, and no man gathereth [them].

۱۹ 19 برای شکستگی تو التیامی نیست و جراحت تو علاج نمی پذیرد و هر‌که آوازه تو را می‌شنود بر تو دستک می‌زند، زیراکیست که شرارت تو بر او علی الدوام واردنمی آمد؟

[There is] no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?
