ایّوب 4

۱ 1 و الیفاز تیمانی در جواب گفت:

Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,

۲ 2 «اگر کسی جرات کرده، با تو سخن گوید، آیا تورا ناپسند می‌آید؟ لیکن کیست که بتواند از سخن‌گفتن بازایستد؟

If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

۳ 3 اینک بسیاری را ادب آموخته‌ای و دستهای ضعیف را تقویت داده‌ای.

Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

۴ 4 سخنان تو لغزنده را قایم داشت، و تو زانوهای لرزنده را تقویت دادی.

Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast confirmed the feeble knees.

۵ 5 لیکن الان به تو رسیده است و ملول شده‌ای، تو را لمس کرده است وپریشان گشته‌ای.

But now it is come unto thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

۶ 6 آیا توکل تو بر تقوای تونیست؟ و امید تو بر کاملیت رفتار تو نی؟

Is not thy fear [of God] thy confidence, [and] thy hope the integrity of thy ways?

۷ 7 الان فکر کن! کیست که بی‌گناه هلاک شد؟ و راستان درکجا تلف شدند؟

Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the upright cut off?

۸ 8 چنانکه من دیدم آنانی که شرارت را شیار می‌کنند و شقاوت را می‌کارندهمان را می‌دروند.

According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.

۹ 9 از نفخه خدا هلاک می‌شوندو از باد غضب او تباه می‌گردند.

By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger are they consumed.

۱۰ 10 غرش شیر ونعره سبع و دندان شیربچه‌ها شکسته می‌شود.

The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

۱۱ 11 شیر نر از نابودن شکار هلاک می‌شود وبچه های شیر ماده پراکنده می‌گردند.

The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.

۱۲ 12 «سخنی به من در خفا رسید، و گوش من آواز نرمی از آن احساس نمود.

Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.

۱۳ 13 در تفکرها ازرویاهای شب، هنگامی که خواب سنگین بر مردم غالب شود،

In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

۱۴ 14 خوف و لرز بر من مستولی شد که جمیع استخوانهایم را به جنبش آورد.

Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

۱۵ 15 آنگاه روحی از پیش روی من گذشت، و مویهای بدنم برخاست.

Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.

۱۶ 16 در آنجا ایستاد، اما سیمایش راتشخیص ننمودم. صورتی در‌پیش نظرم بود. خاموشی بود و آوازی شنیدم

It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes: [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying],

۱۷ 17 که آیا انسان به حضور خدا عادل شمرده شود؟ و آیا مرد در نظرخالق خود طاهر باشد؟

Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his Maker?

۱۸ 18 اینک بر خادمان خوداعتماد ندارد، و به فرشتگان خویش، حماقت نسبت می‌دهد.

Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; and his angels he chargeth with folly:

۱۹ 19 پس چند مرتبه زیاده به ساکنان خانه های گلین، که اساس ایشان در غبار است، که مثل بید فشرده می‌شوند!

How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth!

۲۰ 20 از صبح تا شام خردمی شوند، تا به ابد هلاک می‌شوند و کسی آن را به‌خاطر نمی آورد.

Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

۲۱ 21 آیا طناب خیمه ایشان ازایشان کنده نمی شود؟ پس بدون حکمت می‌میرند.

Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? they die, and that without wisdom.
