ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ 12
1 ੧ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖ, ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਮਾੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਆਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਲ ਨੇੜੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਖੇਂਗਾ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ,
Remember also thy Creator in the days of thy youth, or ever the evil days come, and the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
or ever the sun, and the light, and the moon, and the stars, be darkened, and the clouds return after the rain:
3 ੩ ਜਿਸ ਦਿਨ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਰਖਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਬਣ ਲੱਗ ਪੈਣ ਅਤੇ ਤਕੜੇ ਲੋਕ ਕੁੱਬੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਪੀਹਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਥੋੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਬਾਰੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਤੱਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਧੁੰਦਲੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ
in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4 ੪ ਅਤੇ ਗਲੀ ਦੇ ਬੂਹੇ ਬੰਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ, ਜਦ ਚੱਕੀ ਪੀਸਣ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਹੌਲੀ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਉਹ ਚੌਂਕ ਕੇ ਉੱਠ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਲਿੱਸੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ,
and the door shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;
5 ੫ ਫੇਰ ਉਹ ਉਚਿਆਈ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਡਰਨਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਖੌਫ਼ ਖਾਣਗੇ, ਬਦਾਮ ਦਾ ਬੂਟਾ ਫਲੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਟਿੱਡੀ ਵੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਲੱਗੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਛਾ ਮਿਟ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਦੀਪਕਾਲ ਦੇ ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਗ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗਲੀ-ਗਲੀ ਫਿਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
yea, they shall be afraid of [that which is] high, and terrors [shall be] in the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and the caper-berry shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6 ੬ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕਿ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੀ ਡੋਰੀ ਖੋਲ੍ਹੀ ਜਾਵੇ ਜਾਂ ਸੋਨੇ ਦਾ ਕਟੋਰਾ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਵੇ, ਜਾਂ ਘੜਾ ਸੋਤੇ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ, ਜਾਂ ਤਲਾਬ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਚਰਖੜੀ ਟੁੱਟ ਜਾਵੇ
or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern;
7 ੭ ਅਤੇ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਨਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜਾ ਰਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਮੁੜ ਜਾਵੇ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ਿਆ ਸੀ।
and the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit return unto God who gave it.
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher; all is vanity.
9 ੯ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਜੋ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਸੀ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਹਾਂ, ਉਸ ਨੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਲ-ਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਉਤਾਂ ਰਚੀਆਂ।
And further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, [and] set in order many proverbs.
10 ੧੦ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਭਾਉਂਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਖੋਜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਲਿਖਿਆ, ਉਹ ਸਿੱਧੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਚਿਆਈ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸਨ।
The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written uprightly, [even] words of truth.
11 ੧੧ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਤਿੱਖੀ ਨੋਕ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਸਭਾ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਠੋਕੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਕਿੱਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਇੱਕ ਅਯਾਲੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ।
The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails well fastened are [the words of] the masters of assemblies, [which] are given from one shepherd.
12 ੧੨ ਸੋ ਹੁਣ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਤੂੰ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹੁਸ਼ਿਆਰੀ ਸਿੱਖ, - ਬਹੁਤ ਪੋਥੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਚਣ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਥਕਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
And furthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13 ੧੩ ਹੁਣ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰ ਸੁਣੀਏ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਡਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੰਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਇਹੋ ਫ਼ਰਜ਼ ਹੈ।
[This is] the end of the matter; all hath been heard: fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole [duty] of man.
14 ੧੪ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਕ-ਇੱਕ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ-ਇੱਕ ਗੁਪਤ ਗੱਲ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮਾੜੀ।
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.
