1 Yaadni mootii akkuma yaaʼaa bishaanii harka Waaqayyoo keessa jira; innis garuma fedhetti qajeelcha.
The king’s heart is in the LORD’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.
2 Karaan namaa hundinuu ija ofii isaa duratti qajeelaa itti fakkaata; Waaqayyo garuu yaada namaa madaala.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts.
3 Fuula Waaqayyoo duratti aarsaa caalaa, waan qajeelaa fi sirrii taʼe hojjechuutu fudhatama qaba.
To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4 Iji of jajuu fi garaan of tuuluu maasii hamootaa kan hin qotaminii dha; innis cubbuu dhala.
A high look and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
5 Karoorri nama tattaaffatuu buʼaa argamsiisa; namni ariifatu garuu ni hiyyooma.
The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
6 Qabeenyi arraba sobuun argamu, urrii bittinnaaʼee baduu fi kiyyoo duʼaa ti.
Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.
7 Sababii isaan waan qajeelaa hojjechuu didaniif, fincilli hamootaa isaanuma balleessa.
The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.
8 Karaan nama balleessaa qabuu jalʼaa dha; amalli nama qulqulluu garuu qajeelaa dha.
The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.
9 Niitii nyakkiftuu wajjin mana tokko keessa jiraachuu mannaa, golee bantii manaa irra jiraachuu wayya.
It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.
10 Namni hamaan jalʼina dharraʼa; ollaan isaa gara laafina tokko iyyuu isa irraa hin argatu.
The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.
11 Yeroo namni qoosu tokko adabamutti, wallaalaan ogummaa argata; namni ogeessi yeroo gorfamutti beekumsa argata.
When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.
12 Namni qajeelaan mana hamootaa qalbeeffatee ilaala; hamootas ni balleessa.
The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.
13 Namni tokko yoo iyya hiyyeessaatiif gurra kennuu dide, innis ni iyya; deebiis hin argatu.
Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.
14 Wanni dhoksaadhaan namaaf kennan aarii qabbaneessa; mattaʼaan harka bobaa jalaatiin kennanis dheekkamsa guddaa gab godha.
A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.
15 Murtii qajeelaa kennuun qajeeltotaaf gammachuu kenna; hamootatti immoo raafama fida.
It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
16 Namni karaa hubannaa irraa badu kam iyyuu waldaa warra duʼaniitti dabalama.
The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.
17 Namni qananii jaallatu ni deega; kan daadhii wayiniitii fi zayitii jaallatu immoo hin sooromu.
He who loves pleasure will be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.
18 Namni hamaan nama qajeelaadhaaf, kan hin amanamne immoo nama tolaadhaaf furii taʼa.
The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, the treacherous for the upright.
19 Niitii nyakkiftuu fi kan daftee aartu wajjin jiraachuu mannaa, gammoojjii keessa jiraachuu wayya.
It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
20 Mana nama ogeessaa keessa qabeenya gatii guddaatii fi zayitiitu jira; gowwaan garuu waan qabu hunda nyaatee fixa.
There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up.
21 Namni qajeelummaa fi jaalala duukaa buʼu, jireenya, badhaadhummaa fi ulfina argata.
He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.
22 Namni ogeessi magaalaa nama jabaatti baʼee daʼoo jabaa inni amanatu jalaa diiga.
A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.
23 Namni afaan isaatii fi arraba isaa eeggatu, balaa irraa of eega.
Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
24 Nama of jajuu fi of tuulu maqaan isaa, “Qoostuu dha;” inni akka malee koora.
The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name— he works in the arrogance of pride.
25 Sababii harki isaa hojii hojjechuu hin jaallanneef, hawwiin nama dhibaaʼaa duʼa isatti fida.
The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.
26 Inni guyyaa guutuu kajeela; namni qajeelaan garuu utuu hin qusatin kenna.
There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold.
27 Aarsaan nama hamaa balfamaa dha; yoos yoo inni yaada hamaadhaan dhiʼeesse hammam sana caalaa haa balfamu ree!
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination— how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
28 Dhuga baatuun sobaa ni bada; namni isa dhagaʼu kam iyyuus bara baraan bada.
A false witness will perish. A man who listens speaks to eternity.
29 Namni hamaan ija jabaata; namni tolaan garuu karaa isaa qajeelfata.
A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.
30 Ogummaan, hubannaanii fi karoorri Waaqayyoon mormee milkaaʼuu hin jiru.
There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
31 Fardi guyyaa waraanaatiif qopheeffama; moʼichi garuu kan Waaqayyoo ti.
The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with the LORD.
