< Fakkeenya 19 >
1 Gowwaa daba dubbatuu mannaa hiyyeessa amanamummaadhaan jiraatu wayya.
Better is the poor who walks in his simplicity, than the rich who twists his lips and is unwise.
2 Namni beekumsa hin qabne gaarii miti; miilli jarjarus karaa irraa jalʼata.
Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good. And whoever hurries with his feet will stumble.
3 Gowwummaan namaa karaa isaa jalʼisa; garaan isaa immoo Waaqayyotti aara.
The foolishness of a man undermines his steps. And then he seethes in his soul against God.
4 Badhaadhummaan michoota hedduu nama argachiisa; hiyyeessi garuu michoota isaa irraa gargar baʼa.
Riches add many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated.
5 Namni sobaan dhugaa baʼu utuu hin adabamin hin hafu; namni soba odeessuus jalaa hin baʼu.
A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will not escape.
6 Namni hedduun bulchaa biratti surraa argachuu barbaada; namni hundis michuu nama waa namaa kennuu ti.
Many honor the character of one who is powerful, and there are friends for a giver of gifts.
7 Obboloonni hiyyeessaa hundinuu isa jibbu; yoos michoonni isaa hammam caalaa isa irraa haa fagaatan ree! Inni kadhachaa isaan duukaa buʼu iyyuu isaan eessattuu hin argaman.
The brothers of the poor man hate him. Moreover, even his friends have withdrawn far from him. Whoever pursues only words shall have nothing.
8 Namni qalbii qabu ofii isaa jaallata; namni hubannaa jaallatu ni milkaaʼa.
But whoever possesses reason loves his own soul. And one who guards prudence shall discover good things.
9 Namni sobaan dhugaa baʼu utuu hin adabamin hin hafu; namni soba odeessus ni bada.
A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will perish.
10 Jireenya qananii jiraachuun gowwaaf hin malu; yoos ilmaan mootii bulchuun garbichaaf hammam caalaa haa hammaatu ree?
Fine things are not fitting for the foolish, nor is it fitting for a servant to rule over princes.
11 Ogummaan nama tokkoo obsa kennaaf; balleessaa namaa irra darbuunis isaaf ulfina.
The doctrine of a man is known through patience. And his glory is to pass beyond iniquities.
12 Dheekkamsi mootii akkuma aaduu leencaa ti, surraan isaa immoo akkuma fixeensa marga irratti.
Like the roaring of a lion, so also is the wrath of a king. And his cheerfulness is like the dew upon the grass.
13 Ilmi gowwaan abbaa isaatiif badiisa; niitiin nyakkiftunis akka mana yeroo hundumaa dhimmisuu ti.
A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.
14 Manaa fi qabeenyi warra ofii irraa dhaalamu; niitii qalbii qabdu garuu Waaqayyotu namaaf kenna.
A house and its riches are given by parents. But a prudent wife is particularly from the Lord.
15 Dhibaaʼummaan hirriba guddaa namatti buusa; namni hojii malee taaʼus ni beelaʼa.
Laziness sends one into a deep sleep, and a dissolute soul will go hungry.
16 Namni ajaja eegu lubbuu isaa eeggata; kan karaa isaa tuffatu immoo ni duʼa.
Whoever guards a commandment guards his own soul. But whoever neglects his own way will die.
17 Namni hiyyeessaaf garaa laafu Waaqayyoof liqeessa; Waaqnis waan inni hojjete sanaaf isa badhaasa.
Whoever is merciful to the poor lends to the Lord. And he will repay him for his efforts.
18 Yeroo abdiin jirutti ilma kee adabadhu; akka inni duʼuufis calʼistee hin ilaalin.
Teach your son; do not despair. But do not set your soul toward putting him to death.
19 Namni dafee aaru adabamuu qaba; ati yoo isa oolchite, amma illee akkasuma gochuu qabda.
Whoever is impatient will sustain damage. And when it has been taken away, he will set up another.
20 Gorsa namaa dhaggeeffadhu; sirreeffamas fudhadhu; dhuma irratti ati nama ogeessa taata.
Listen to counsel and take up discipline, so that you may be wise in your latter days.
21 Garaa namaa keessa karoora baayʼeetu jira; garuu wanni fiixaan baʼu kaayyoo Waaqayyoo ti.
There are many intentions in the heart of a man. But the will of the Lord shall stand firm.
22 Wanni namni hawwu jaalala dhuma hin qabnee dha; sobduu taʼuu mannaa hiyyeessa taʼuu wayya.
An indigent man is merciful. And a pauper is better than a deceitful man.
23 Waaqayyoon sodaachuun jireenyatti nama geessa; yoos namni boqonnaadhaan jiraata; rakkinnis isa hin argatu.
The fear of the Lord is unto life. And he shall linger in plentitude, without being visited by disaster.
24 Dhibaaʼaan harka isaa waciitii keessa kaaʼa; gara afaan isaattis hin deebifatu!
The lazy conceals his hand under his arm, and he will not so much as bring it to his mouth.
25 Qoostuu garafi; wallaalaan hubannaa argataa; nama qalbii qabu ifadhu; inni beekumsa argataatii.
When the pestilent are scourged, the foolish will become wiser. But if you chastise the wise, he will understand discipline.
26 Namni abbaa isaa saamu, haadha isaas kan manaa ariʼu, ilma qaanii fi salphina fiduu dha.
Whoever afflicts his father and flees from his mother is disreputable and unhappy.
27 Yaa ilma ko, mee qajeelfama dhaggeeffachuu dhiisi; ati dubbii beekumsaa irraa ni baddaa.
Son, do not cease listening to doctrine, and do not be ignorant of the sermons of knowledge.
28 Dhuga baʼaan faayidaa hin qabne murtii qajeelaa tuffata; afaan hamootaa immoo hammina liqimsa.
An unjust witness ridicules judgment. And the mouth of the impious devours iniquity.
29 Qoostotaaf adabbii, dugda gowwootaatiif immoo rukuttaatu qopheeffama.
Judgments are prepared for those who ridicule. And striking hammers are prepared for the bodies of the foolish.
