< Yoonaas 3 >
1 Ergasii dubbiin Waaqayyoo akkana jedhee yeroo lammaffaa gara Yoonaas dhufe:
Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:
2 “Gara Nanawwee magaalaa guddittii sanaa dhaqiitii ergaa ani sitti himu kana itti lallabi.”
“Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message that I give you.”
3 Yoonaasis dubbii Waaqayyootiif ajajamee Nanawwee dhaqe. Yeroo sanatti Nanawween magaalaa akka malee guddoo turte; keessa baʼanii darbuufis guyyaa sadii fudhata ture.
This time Jonah got up and went to Nineveh, in accordance with the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, requiring a three-day journey.
4 Yoonaas imala guyyaa tokkoo deemuudhaan magaalattiitti gale. Akkana jedhees lallabe: “Nanawween guyyaa afurtama keessatti ni garagalfamti.”
On the first day of his journey, Jonah set out into the city and proclaimed, “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned!”
5 Warri Nanawwees Waaqatti amanan. Soomas labsanii hundi isaanii xinnaa fi guddaan uffata gaddaa uffatan.
And the Ninevites believed God. They proclaimed a fast and dressed in sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least.
6 Yommuu oduun kun mooticha Nanawwee gaʼetti inni teessoo isaa irraa kaʼee uffata mootii of irraa baase; wayyaa gaddaas uffatee daaraa keessa taaʼe.
When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
7 Ergasii akkana jedhee Nanawwee keessatti labsii labse: “Ajajni mootichaatii fi qondaaltota isaa kanaa dha: Akka namni yookaan horiin tokko iyyuu, karri loonii yookaan bushaayeen waan tokko iyyuu afaaniin qabu hin eeyyaminaa; akka isaan waa nyaatan yookaan dhugan hin eeyyaminaa.
Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: “By the decree of the king and his nobles: Let no man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything at all. They must not eat or drink.
8 Garuu namnis, horiinis wayyaa gaddaa haa uffatan. Namni hundinuu dafee Waaqa isaa haa waammatu. Isaan karaa isaanii hamaa sanaa fi yakka harki isaanii hojjetu irraa haa deebiʼan.
Furthermore, let both man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and have everyone call out earnestly to God. Let each one turn from his evil ways and from the violence in his hands.
9 Maaltu beeka? Tarii Waaqni gaabbee garaa nuu laafee dheekkamsa isaa sodaachisaa sana nurraa deebisee, nuus badii oolla taʼaatii.”
Who knows? God may turn and relent; He may turn from His fierce anger, so that we will not perish.”
10 Waaqnis akka isaan waan hamaa irraa deebiʼan hojii isaanii arge; Waaqnis garaa laafeefii balaa isaanitti erguuf yaade sana isaanitti fiduu dhiise.
When God saw their actions—that they had turned from their evil ways—He relented from the disaster He had threatened to bring upon them.
