< Yohannis 4 >
1 Egaa Yesuus Yohannis caalaa barattoota akka baayʼifatee fi akka cuuphe Fariisonni dhagaʼuu isaanii Gooftaan ni beeke;
Accordingly when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard it said, "Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John,"
2 taʼus barattoota isaatu cuuphaa ture malee Yesuus ofii isaatii hin cuuphine.
(though Jesus himself was not accustomed to baptize, but his disciples),
3 Inni Yihuudaa dhiisee amma illee Galiilaatti deebiʼe.
he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
4 Innis Samaariyaa keessa darbuu qaba ture.
Now he had to pass through Samaria;
5 Kanaafuu gara magaalaa Samaariyaa kan Siikaar jedhamu tokkoo dhufe; magaalaan sunis lafa Yaaqoob ilma isaa Yoosefiif kenne sanatti dhiʼoo dha.
so he came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Boolli bishaanii kan Yaaqoob tokko achi ture; Yesuusis waan karaa deemuudhaan dadhabeef boolla bishaanii sana bira taaʼe. Yeroonis gara saʼaatii jaʼaa ture.
Jacob’s Spring was there. So Jesus, tired out with his journey, was sitting thus by the spring.
7 Dubartiin Samaariyaa tokkos bishaan waraabbachuu dhufte; Yesuusis, “Mee na obaasi” jedheen.
It was about noon, and a woman of Samaria came to draw water.
8 Barattoonni isaa nyaata bituuf gara magaalaa dhaqanii turaniitii.
Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink" (for his disciples were gone away into the city to buy food.)
9 Dubartiin Samaariyaa sunis Yesuusiin, “Ati utuu Yihuudii taatee jirtuu akkamitti ‘na obaasi’ jettee ana dubartii Samaariyaa kadhatta?” jetteen. Yihuudoonni warra Samaariyaa wajjin walitti dhufeenya hin qaban tureetii.
"How is it," answered the Samaritan woman, "that you who are a Jew ask a drink from me, a woman, and a Samaritan?" (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 Yesuusis deebisee, “Kennaa Waaqaatii fi inni, ‘na obaasi’ siin jedhu kun eenyu akka taʼe utuu beektee silaa situ isa kadhata ture; innis bishaan jireenyaa siif kenna ture” jedheen.
"If you had known the free gift of God," Jesus answered, "and who it is that says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked of him, and he would have given you living water."
11 Dubartittiinis akkana jetteen; “Yaa gooftaa, ati waan ittiin waraabbattu hin qabdu; boolli bishaanii kunis gad fagoo dha. Yoos bishaan jireenyaa eessaa argatta?
"Sir," said the woman, "you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; whence have you that living water?
12 Ati abbaa keenya Yaaqoob isa boolla bishaanii kana nuu kenne caalta moo? Inni mataan isaa, ijoolleen isaatii fi horiin isaa boolla bishaanii kana keessaa dhugaa turan.”
Surely you are not greater than our Father Jacob, who gave us the well, and used to drink from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle, too?"
13 Yesuus immoo akkana jedhee deebise; “Namni bishaan kana dhugu hundinuu deebiʼee ni dheebota;
"All who drink of this water," Jesus answered, "will thirst again;
14 garuu namni bishaan ani isaaf kennu dhugu kam iyyuu gonkumaa hin dheebotu. Bishaan ani isaaf kennu isa keessatti burqaa bishaanii isa jireenya bara baraatiif burqu ni taʼa.” (aiōn , aiōnios )
but whoever once drinks of the water that I will give him, shall never thirst any more, but the water that I will give him shall become a living spring of water within him, welling up into eternal life." (aiōn , aiōnios )
15 Dubartittiinis, “Yaa Gooftaa, akka ani hin dheebonneef, bishaan waraabuufis akka ani as hin dhufneef bishaan sana naa kenni” jetteen.
"Sir!" exclaimed the woman, "give me this water, so that I may not be thirsty, nor come all this way to draw water."
16 Yesuus immoo, “Dhaqiitii dhirsa kee waamii kottu!” jedheen.
Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and then come here."
17 Dubartittiin, “Ani dhirsa hin qabu” jetteen. Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Dhirsa hin qabu jechuun kee sirrii dha;
"I have no husband," answered the woman. "You are right in saying ‘I have no husband,’"Jesus said to her,
18 ati dhirsoota shan qabda turteetii; namichi amma si wajjin jirus dhirsa kee miti. Wanni ati amma dubbate dhugaa dha.”
"for you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband; in this you have spoken truly."
19 Dubartittiinis akkana jette; “Yaa Gooftaa, akka ati raajii taate nan hubadha.
"I see, Sir, that you are a prophet," replied the woman.
20 Abbootiin keenya tulluu kana irratti sagadaa turan; isin Yihuudoonni garuu iddoon namni itti waaqeffachuu qabu Yerusaalem jettu.”
"Our forefathers worshiped in this mountain, yet you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one must worship."
21 Yesuusis akkana jedheen; “Dubartii nana, na amani; yeroon isin itti tulluu kana irrattis taʼu yookaan Yerusaalemitti Abbaa hin waaqeffanne tokko ni dhufa.
"Woman, believe me," said Jesus, "that the hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 Isin waan hin beekne waaqeffattu; nu sababii fayyinni Yihuudoota keessaa dhufuuf kan beeknu waaqeffanna.
You are worshiping something you do not know. we know what we worship, for salvation comes from the Jews.
23 Warri dhugaan waaqeffatan yeroon isaan itti hafuuraa fi dhugaadhaan Abbaa waaqeffatan tokko ni dhufa; amma iyyuu dhufeera; Abbaan warra akkasitti isa waaqeffatan barbaada.
But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father is seeking such as his worshipers.
24 Waaqni hafuura; warri isa waaqeffatanis Hafuuraa fi dhugaadhaan waaqeffachuu qabu.”
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth."
25 Dubartittiinis, “Ani akka Masiihiin Kiristoos jedhamu dhufu nan beeka. Inni yommuu dhufutti waan hunda nutti hima” jetteen.
"I know," said the woman, "that Messiah is coming, who is called the Christ; when he has come he will tell us everything."
26 Yesuusis, “Ani, namni amma sitti dubbachaa jiru kun isuma” jedheen.
Jesus said to her, "I who am now talking to you, am he."
27 Barattoonni isaa yommusuma deebiʼanii utuu inni dubartii tokko wajjin dubbatuu arganii dinqisiifatan. Garuu namni, “Maal barbaadda?” yookaan “Maaliif ishee wajjin haasofta?” jedhee isa gaafatu tokko iyyuu hin turre.
Just then his disciples came up, and were astonished that he was talking with a woman; yet not one of them asked him, "What do you want?" or "Why are you talking with her?"
28 Dubartiin sunis okkotee ishee dhiiftee gara magaalaatti deebite; namootaanis akkana jette;
Then the woman left her water-jar, and went away into the city and began saying to the people.
29 “Kottaatii nama waan ani hojjedhe hunda natti hime tokko ilaalaa! Tarii inni Kiristoos taʼinnaa?”
"Come! see a man who has told me everything that I ever did. He can’t be the Christ, can he?"
30 Isaanis magaalaa keessaa baʼanii Yesuus bira dhufan.
They left the city and set out to go to him.
31 Kana gidduutti barattoonni isaa, “Yaa barsiisaa, mee waa nyaadhu!” jedhanii isa kadhatan.
Meanwhile the disciples kept urging him.
32 Inni garuu, “Ani nyaata isin hin beekne kanan nyaadhu qaba” jedheen.
"Rabbi," they said, "eat something." But he answered, "I have food to eat of which you know nothing."
33 Barattoonni isaas, “Namatu nyaata fideefii laata?” jedhanii wal gaafatan.
So the disciples began to say to one another, "Can any one have brought him something to eat?"
34 Yesuus immoo akkana jedheen; “Nyaanni koo fedhii isa na ergee guutuu fi hojii isaa raawwachuu dha.
Jesus said to them. "My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.
35 Isin, ‘Jiʼa afurtu hafe; ergasii midhaan walitti qabama’ jettu mitii? Kunoo, ani isinittan hima; akka midhaan bilchaatee walitti qabamuu gaʼe mee ol jedhaatii lafa qotiisaa ilaalaa!
Do you not say, ‘It wants yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you! Lift up your eyes and behold the fields, that they are already white for harvest.
36 Inni midhaan haamu amma iyyuu mindaa ni argata; jireenya bara baraatiif ija walitti ni qaba; kunis akka inni facaasuu fi inni walitti qabu waliin gammadaniif. (aiōnios )
The reaper is already receiving wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may rejoice together. (aiōnios )
37 Haala kanaan mammaaksi, ‘Inni tokko ni facaasa; kaan immoo ni haama’ jedhu sun dhugaa dha.
For in this respect the saying is true, ‘One sows, another reaps.’
38 Ani akka isin waan itti hin dadhabin haammattaniifan isin erge. Warri kaan itti dadhabaniiru; isin garuu buʼaa dadhabbii isaanii galfattu.”
I sent you to reap a crop on which you have not toiled. Others have toiled, and you have reaped the benefit of their toil."
39 Sababii dubartittiin, “Inni waan ani hojjedhe hunda natti hime” jettee dhugaa baateef namoonni Samaariyaa warri magaalaa sanaa baayʼeen isatti amanan.
Many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him because of the word of the woman when she declared, "He told me everything that I ever did."
40 Kanaafuu namoonni Samaariyaa yommuu gara isaa dhufanitti akka inni isaan wajjin turuuf isa kadhatan; innis guyyaa lama achi ture.
So when the Samaritans arrived, they began asking him to remain with them; and he stayed there two days.
41 Sababii dubbii isaatiinis namoonni biraa baayʼeen isatti amanan.
Then many more believed because of what he said, himself; and they told the woman.
42 Isaanis dubartittiidhaan, “Siʼachi wanni nu amannuuf sababii dubbii ati nutti himte sanaatiif miti; nu mataan keenya iyyuu isa dhageenyeerraatii; akka inni dhugumaan Fayyisaa addunyaa taʼes beekneerra” jedhan.
"We no longer believe because of what you said. for we ourselves have heard him, and we know that this is certainly the Saviour of the world."
43 Guyyaa lamaan sana booddee Yesuus Galiilaa dhaqe.
After these two days Jesus went away from there into Galilee.
44 Yesuus mataan isaa iyyuu akka raajiin tokko biyya isaa keessatti kabaja hin qabne dubbatee tureetii.
For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.
45 Yommuu inni Galiilaa gaʼettis warri Galiilaa isa simatan. Isaanis sababii Yerusaalem turaniif waan inni yeroo Ayyaana Faasiikaatti achitti hojjete hunda arganii turan.
When he reached Galilee, however, the Galileans welcomed him, for they had seen all that he did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they, too, had been at the feast.
46 Kanaafuu inni deebiʼee gara Qaanaa ishee Galiilaa keessaa iddoo itti bishaan gara daadhii wayiniitti geeddaree ture sanaa dhaqe. Qondaalli mootii kan ilmi isaa dhukkubsate tokkos Qifirnaahom keessa ture.
So he came back again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. Now there was one of the king’s officers whose son was lying ill at Capernaum.
47 Namichi kunis yommuu akka Yesuus Yihuudaadhaa kaʼee Galiilaa dhufe dhagaʼetti isa bira dhaqee akka inni dhufee ilma isaa kan duʼuu gaʼe sana fayyisu isa kadhate.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him to come down and heal his son who was lying at the point of death.
48 Kana irratti Yesuus, “Isin yoo mallattoo fi dinqii argitan malee hin amantan!” isaan jedhe.
Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you all see signs and wonders, you will not believe."
49 Qondaaltichis, “Yaa Gooftaa, maaloo utuu mucaan koo hin duʼin naa qaqqabi” jedheen.
"Sir," said the king’s officer, "come down before my little boy dies."
50 Yesuusis, “Ilmi kee ni jiraataatii gali!” jedheen. Namichis waan Yesuus isatti dubbate amanee deeme.
Jesus answered. "Go your way. Your son lives." And the man believed the word which Jesus spoke to him, and started to go home.
51 Utuu inni deemaa jiruus tajaajiltoonni isaa itti dhufanii akka ilmi isaa lubbuun jiru itti himan.
And when he was already on his way down, his slaves met him, saying that his boy was living.
52 Innis yeroo itti mucaa isaatti wayyaaʼe gaafate; isaanis, “Kaleessa saʼaatii torbatti dhagna gubaan isa dhiise” jedhaniin.
So he asked them at what hour he had begun mend. They answered, "Yesterday, about one o’clock, the fever left him."
53 Abbaan mucichaas akka yeroon sun yeroo Yesuus itti, “Ilmi kee ni jiraata” jedheen taʼe hubate. Kanaafuu innis, warri mana isaa hundinuus ni amanan.
Then the father realized that it had left him at the very hour when Jesus had said to him, "Your son lives," and he himself believed, and his whole household.
54 Kun mallattoo lammaffaa Yesuus erga Yihuudaadhaa Galiilaa dhufee hojjetee dha.
This is the second sign which Jesus performed, on returning from Judea to Galilee.
