< Asteer 4 >

1 Mordekaayi yeroo waan hojjetame sana hunda beeketti uffata isaa tarsaasee, wayyaa gaddaa uffatee, daaraa ofitti firfirsee, sagalee guddaadhaan wawwaachaa hiqqifatees booʼaa gara walakkaa magaalaatti gad baʼe.
When Mordecai found out all that had happened, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes, and walked through the city, crying and wailing in grief.
2 Inni garuu sababii namni uffata gaddaa uffate tokko iyyuu akka ol seenu hin eeyyamamneef hamma karra mootichaa qofatti deeme.
He went as far as the palace gate, because no one was allowed to enter the palace gate wearing sackcloth.
3 Kutaalee biyyaa hunda iddoo ajajnii fi labsiin mootichaa gaʼetti gaddi guddaan, soomni booʼichii fi wawwaannaan Yihuudoota gidduu ture; baayʼeen isaanii uffata gaddaa uffatanii daaraa keessa ciisan.
When the king's decree and orders reached all the different provinces the Jews began to mourn in terrible distress. They fasted, they wept, and they wailed; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4 Yeroo dubartoonni tajaajiltoonni Asteerii fi xuʼaashiiwwan dhufanii waaʼee Mordekaayi isheetti himanitti Asteer akka malee gaddite. Isheenis qooda uffata gaddaa wayyaa inni uffatu ergiteef; inni garuu isaan harkaa fudhachuu dide.
Esther's maids and eunuchs came and told her, and the queen was very upset. She sent clothes to him so he could take off his sackcloth, but he refused to accept them.
5 Kana irratti Asteer xuʼaashiiwwan mootichaa keessaa Hataak isa ishee tajaajiluuf ramadame sana waamtee akka inni Mordekaayi bira deemee, rakkoo uumamee fi rakkoon sun maaliif akka uumame beekuuf ajajje.
She called Hathatch, one of the king's eunuchs assigned to attend her, and ordered him to go to Mordecai and find out what he was doing and why.
6 Kanaafuu Hataak gara oobdii magaalattii kan karra mootichaa duraa sanaatti Mordekaayiitti baʼe.
Hathatch went to Mordecai in the city square in front of the palace gate.
7 Mordekaayi waan isa irra gaʼe hunda, maallaqa Haamaan Yihuudoota balleessuudhaaf mankuusa qabeenya mootichaatti galchuuf waadaa gale isatti hima.
Mordecai explained to him everything that had happened to him, including the exact amount of money that Haman had promised to pay the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews.
8 Akkasumas Mordekaayi akka inni Asteeritti argisiisee isheedhaaf ibsuuf garagalcha barreeffama labsii kan isaan balleessuudhaaf Suusaa keessatti labsame sana isatti kenne; akka inni akka isheen mooticha bira dhaqxee itti boossee saba isheetiif araara kadhattu itti himuufis isa ajaje.
Mordecai also gave him a copy of the decree that had been issued in Susa for their destruction to show Esther and explain it to her, and asked him to instruct her to go to the king and appeal for mercy and plead before him for her people.
9 Hataak deebiʼee waan Mordekaayi jedhe Asteeritti hime.
Hathatch went back and told Esther what Mordecai had said.
10 Asteer immoo akka inni akkana jedhee Mordekaayiitti himu isa ajajje;
Then Esther spoke with Hathatch and ordered him to deliver this message to Mordecai.
11 “Qondaaltonni mootichaa hundii fi sabni kutaalee biyyaa mootichaa akka mootichi yoo namni kam iyyuu dhiiras taʼu dubartiin utuu hin waamamin kutaa manaa isa gara keessaa ol seenee fuula mootichaa duratti dhiʼaate akka mootichi seera tokko qofa qabu jechuunis akka ajjeefamu ni beeku. Namni tokko yoo mootichi bokkuu mootummaa kan warqee sana diriirseef qofa ajjeefamuu oola. Ani mataan koo iyyuu guyyoota soddomman kana keessaa akkan fuula mootichaa duratti dhiʼaadhuuf waamamee hin beeku.”
“All the king's officials, and even the people in the provinces of the king's empire, know that any man or any woman who goes to the king, entering his inner court without being summoned, is sentenced to death—that is the king's one law—unless the king holds out his golden scepter to them so they can live. In my case, I have not been called to go to the king for thirty days.”
12 Yommuu dubbiin Asteer Mordekaayiitti himametti,
When Mordecai was told what Esther said,
13 inni akkana jedhee deebii kana erge: “Ati sababii mana mootichaa keessa jirtuuf Yihuudoota hunda keessaa waan ati qofti baraaramtu hin seʼin.
Mordecai sent a message back to Esther, saying, “Don't think that just because you live in the king's palace that your life is the only one that will be saved of all the Jews!
14 Yoo ati yeroo kanatti calʼifte gargaarsaa fi furamni Yihuudootaa iddoo biraatii ni dhufa; atii fi manni abbaa keetii garuu ni baddu. Maaltu beeka? Ati taayitaa mootummaa qabachuun kee yeroo akkanaatiif taʼaatii.”
If you stay silent right now, help and rescue will come to the Jews from some other place, and you and your relatives will die. Who knows—it could be you came to be queen for such a time as this!”
15 Kana irratti Asteer akkana jettee deebii kana Mordekaayiitti ergite:
Esther replied to Mordecai, saying,
16 “Dhaqiitii Yihuudoota Suusaa keessa jiran hunda walitti qabiitii naa soomaa. Bultii sadii, guyyaa yookaan halkan illee homaa hin nyaatinaa yookaan homaa hin dhuginaa. Anii fi dubartoonni tajaajiltoonni koo iyyuu akkuma keessan ni soomna. Yoo akkas taʼe wanni kun seeraan ala taʼu illee ani gara mootichaa nan dhaqa. Ani yoon bades nan bada.”
“Have all the Jews in Susa meet together and fast for me. Don't eat or drink anything for three days and nights. I and my girls will also fast. After that, I will go to the king, even though it's against the law, and if I die, I die.”
17 Kanaafuu Mordekaayi deemee waan Asteer isa ajajje hunda hojii irra oolche.
Mordecai went and did everything Esther had told him to do.
