< Lallaba 9 >
1 Kanaafuu ani waan kana hunda garaatti qabadhee akka qajeelaan, ogeessii fi hojiiwwan isaanii harka Waaqaa keessa jiran nan hubadhe; garuu namni tokko iyyuu akka jaalalli yookaan jibbi isa eeggatu hin beeku.
I had my mind consider all this. Wise and good people and everything they do are in God's hands. Love or hate—who knows what will happen to them?
2 Nama qajeelaa fi jalʼaa, nama gaarii fi hamaa, nama qulqulluu fi xuraaʼaa, warra aarsaa dhiʼeessanii fi warra hin dhiʼeessine hunda galgalli isaanii tokkuma. Waanuma nama gaarii irra gaʼutu, cubbammaa irras gaʼa; waanuma warra kakuu seenan irra gaʼutu, warri kakuu seenuu sodaatan irra gaʼa.
Yet we all share the same destiny—those who do right, those who do evil, the good, the religiously-observant and those that are not, those who sacrifice and those who don't. Those who do good are as those who sin, those who make vows to God are as those who don't.
3 Hamminni waan aduudhaa gaditti taʼu hunda keessa jiru kanaa dha: Galgalli nama hundaa tokkoo dha. Kana malees garaan namootaa hamminaan guutameera; bara jireenya isaanii keessas maraatummaatu garaa isaanii keessa jira; ergasii isaan warra duʼanitti dabalamu.
This is just so wrong—that everyone here on earth should suffer the same fate! On top of that, people's minds are filled with evil. They spend their lives thinking about stupid things, and then they die.
4 Namni warra lubbuun jiran hundatti dabalamu kam iyyuu abdii qaba. Leenca duʼee mannaa saree lubbuun jirtu wayyaatii!
But the living still have hope—a live dog is better than a dead lion!
5 Warri lubbuun jiran akka duʼan ni beekuutii; warri duʼan garuu homaa hin beekan; isaan siʼachi gatii hin qaban; yaadannoon isaanii iyyuu ni irraanfatama.
The living are conscious of the fact that they're going to die, but the dead have no consciousness of anything. They don't receive any further benefit; they're forgotten.
6 Jaalalli isaanii, jibbi isaaniitii fi hinaaffaan isaanii erga badee tureera; isaan waan aduudhaa gaditti taʼu kam iyyuu keessatti lammata qooda hin qabaatan.
Their love, hate, and envy—it's all gone. They have no further part in anything that happens here on earth.
7 Sababii Waaqni waan ati hojjettetti gammadeef dhaqiitii nyaata kee gammachuudhaan nyaadhu; daadhii wayinii keetiis garaa gammadduun dhugi.
So go ahead and eat your food, and enjoy it. Drink your wine with a happy heart. That's what God intends that you should do.
8 Yeroo hunda uffata adii uffadhu; zayitiinis mataa kee irraa hin dhabamin.
Always wear smart clothes and look good.
9 Bara jireenyaa kan faayidaa hin qabne, kan Waaqni aduudhaa gaditti siif kenne kana hunda bara kee kan faayidaa hin qabne hunda keessatti haadha manaa kee kan jaallattu wajjin gammachuudhaan jiraadhu. Jireenyaa fi hojii ati aduudhaa gaditti itti dadhabde sanaaf qoodni kee kanumaatii.
Enjoy life with the wife that you love—the one God gave you—during all the days of this brief life, all these passing days whose meaning is so hard to understand as you work here on earth.
10 Waan harki kee hojjechuu dandaʼu hunda humna kee guutuudhaan hojjedhu; awwaala ati itti deemuuf jirtu keessa hojiin yookaan yaadni yookaan beekumsi yookaan ogummaan hin jiruutii. (Sheol )
Whatever you do, do it with all your strength, for when you go to the grave there's no more working or thinking, no more knowing or being wise. (Sheol )
11 Ani aduudhaa gaditti waan biraa argeera: Fiigichi warra saffisaniif yookaan lolli irree jabeeyyiif miti; yookaan nyaanni ogeeyyiif yookaan qabeenyi hubattootaaf yookaan fudhatama argachuun beektotaaf miti; yeroo fi carraan hunda isaanii argata.
I thought about other things that happen here on earth. Races are not always won by the fastest runner. Battles are not always decided by the strongest warrior. Also, the wise do not always have food, intelligent people do not always make money, and those who are clever do not always win favor. Time and chance affect all of them.
12 Namni tokko iyyuu yeroon isaa yoom akka taʼe hin beeku: Akkuma qurxummiin kiyyoo hamaadhaan qabamu, yookaan akkuma simbirri kiyyoodhaan qabamtu sana namoonnis bara hamaa akkuma tasaa isaanitti dhufuun qabamu.
You can't predict when your end will come. Just like fish caught in a net, or birds caught in a trap, so people are suddenly caught by death when they least expect it.
13 Ani amma illee fakkeenya ogummaa kan akka malee na dinqisiise kana aduudhaa gaditti nan arge:
Here's another aspect of wisdom that impressed me about what happens here on earth.
14 Magaalaa xinnoo namoonni muraasni keessa jiraatan tokkotu ture. Mootiin jabaan tokkos isheetti baʼee marse; koobii biyyoo guddaa naannessee itti ijaare.
Once there was a small town with only a few inhabitants. A powerful king came and besieged the town, building great earth ramps against its walls.
15 Yeroo sanatti hiyyeessa ogeessa tokkotu magaalaa sana keessa jiraachaa ture; innis ogummaa isaatiin magaalattii baraare. Namni tokko iyyuu garuu hiyyeessa sana hin yaadanne.
In that town lived a man who was wise, but poor. He saved the town by his wisdom. But no one remembered to thank that poor man.
16 Kanaafuu ani, “Jabina irra ogummaa wayya” nan jedhe. Ogummaan hiyyeessa sanaa garuu ni tuffatame; dubbiin isaas fudhatama hin arganne.
As I've always said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” Yet the wisdom of that poor man was dismissed—people didn't pay attention to what he said.
17 Iyya bulchaa gowwootaa irra hasaasa ogeessaatu dhagaʼama.
It's better to listen to the calm words of a wise person than the shouts of a ruler of fools.
18 Meeshaalee waraanaa irra ogummaa wayya; cubbamaan tokko garuu waan gaarii hedduu balleessa.
It's better to have wisdom than weapons of war; but a sinner can destroy a lot of good.
