< 2 Saamuʼeel 12 >
1 Waaqayyos Naataanin gara Daawititti erge. Innis gara Daawit dhufee akkana jedhe; “Namoota lamatu magaalaa tokko keessa jiraata ture; inni tokko sooressa, kaan immoo hiyyeessa ture.
The Lord sent Nathan to see David. When he got there, he said, “Once there were two men living in the same town. One was rich, and one was poor.
2 Namichi sooressi sun hoolotaa fi loon akka malee baayʼee qaba ture;
The rich man had many thousands of sheep and cattle,
3 namichi hiyyeessi sun garuu goromtii hoolaa kan bitate xinnoo tokko malee homaa hin qabu ture; innis goromtii hoolaa sana ni kunuunse; hoolaan sunis isaa fi ijoollee isaa biratti guddatte. Isheen nyaata isaa irraa nyaachaa, dhugaatii isaa irraa dhugaa, bobaa isaa jala ciisaa turte. Goromtiin hoolaa kun isaaf akkuma intala isaa turte.
but the poor man didn't have anything but one small ewe lamb that he had bought. He cared for it, and it grew up with him and his children. It would eat from his plate and drank from his cup. It slept on his lap and was like a daughter to him.
4 “Gaaf tokko keessummaan tokko mana namicha sooressa sanaa dhufe; namichi sooressi sunis hoolota yookaan loon ofii isaa keessaa tokko fuudhee keessummichaaf nyaata qopheessuu mararsiifate. Qooda kanaa ilmoo hoolaa namicha hiyyeessa sanaa fuudhee keessummaa mana isaa dhufe sanaaf qopheesse.”
One day the rich man had a visitor. He didn't want to take one of his own sheep or cattle to feed his visitor. He took the poor man's lamb instead to prepare a meal for his visitor.”
5 Daawitis namicha sanatti akka malee aaree Naataaniin akkana jedhe; “Dhugaa Waaqayyo jiraataa, namichi waan kana godhe sun duʼuu qaba!
David became absolutely furious with what that man did, and angrily told Nathan. “As the Lord lives, the man who did this should be put to death!
6 Namichi sun qooda hoolaa sanaa harka afur baasuu qaba; inni gara laafina malee waan kana godheeraatii.”
He must repay that lamb with four of his own for doing this, for being so heartless.”
7 Naataanis Daawitiin akkana jedhe; “Namichi sun suma! Waaqayyo Waaqni Israaʼel akkana jedha: ‘Ani Israaʼel irratti mootii godhee si dibeera; harka Saaʼol jalaas si baaseera.
“You are that man!” Nathan told David. “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I anointed you king of Israel, and I saved you from Saul.
8 Ani mana gooftaa keetii siif kenneera; niitota gooftaa keetii illee bobaa keetti siif kenneera. Ani mana Israaʼelii fi mana Yihuudaa siif kenneera. Utuu kunneen hundi sitti xinnaatanii silaa kana caalaa iyyuu siifin kenna ture.
I gave your master's house to you and placed your master's wives in your lap. I gave you the kingdom of Israel and Judah, and if that hadn't been enough, I would have given you so much more.
9 Ati maaliif waan ija isaa duratti hamaa taʼe hojjechuudhaan dubbii Waaqayyoo tuffatte? Ati Uuriyaa namicha Heet sana goraadeen ajjeeftee niitii isaa fudhatteerta. Ati goraadee Amoonotaatiin isa ajjeefte.
So why have you treated what Lord said with contempt by doing evil in his sight? You killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword and stole his wife—you killed him using the sword of the Ammonites.
10 Kanaafuu amma sababii ati na tuffattee niitii Uuriyaa namicha Heet sana ofii keetiif fudhatteef goraadeen mana kee irraa hin fagaatu.’
So your descendants will always face the sword that kills because you treated me with contempt and stole Uriah's wife.
11 “Waaqayyo akkana jedha: ‘Kunoo, ani manuma kee keessaa waan hamaa sitti nan kaasa; utuma iji kee arguu niitota kee fuudhee fira sitti aanuuf nan kenna; innis guyyuma saafaadhaan isaan wajjin ni ciisa.
This is what the Lord says: I'm going to bring disaster in you from your own family. I will take your wives before your very eyes and give them to someone else, and he will sleep openly with your wives where everyone can see.
12 Ati dhoksaatti akkas goote; ani garuu Israaʼeloota hunda duratti guyyuma saafaadhaan waan kana nan godha.’”
You did it all in secret, but I will do it openly where everyone in all of Israel can see.”
13 Kana irratti Daawit Naataaniin, “Ani Waaqayyotti cubbuu hojjedheera” jedhe. Naataan immoo deebisee akkana jedhe; “Waaqayyo cubbuu kee sirraa haqeera; atis hin duutu.
David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” “The Lord has forgiven your sins. You're not going to die,” Nathan replied.
14 Taʼus sababii ati waan kana gochuudhaan Waaqayyoon tuffatteef daaʼimni siif dhalate sun ni duʼa.”
“But because by doing this you have treated the Lord with complete contempt, the son you have will die.”
15 Erga Naataan gara mana ofii isaa deemee booddee Waaqayyo daaʼima niitiin Uuriyaa Daawitiif deesse ni dhaʼe; mucichis ni dhibame.
Then Nathan went home. The Lord made the child that Uriah's wife had borne to David become very sick.
16 Daawitis daaʼima sanaaf Waaqa kadhate. Innis soomee mana isaatti galee halkan hunda lafa rafaa ture.
David pleaded with God on behalf of the boy. He fasted, went to his bedroom, and spent the night lying in sackcloth on the ground.
17 Maanguddoonni mana isaas lafaa isa kaasuuf isa bira dhadhaabatan; inni garuu ni dide; isaan wajjinis homaa hin nyaanne.
His senior officials approached him and tried to help him up from the ground, but he didn't want to, and he refused their appeals to eat.
18 Daaʼimni sunis guyyaa torbaffaatti ni duʼe. Tajaajiltoonni Daawit akka daaʼimni sun duʼe isatti himuu sodaatan; isaan, “Nu yeroo daaʼimni sun lubbuun jirutti Daawititti dubbannee ture; inni garuu nu dhagaʼuu dide. Amma akkamiin daaʼimni sun duʼeera jennee itti himna? Yoo nu itti himne inni of miidha taʼa” jedhanii yaadanii turaniitii.
On the seventh day the child died. But David's officials were scared to tell him that the child was dead, for they said to each other, “Look, while the child was still alive, we talked with him, and he refused to listen to us. How on earth can we tell him the child is dead? He may do something really bad!”
19 Daawit akka tajaajiltoonni isaa walitti asaasaa jiran hubatee daaʼimni sun duʼuu isaa beeke. Innis, “Mucichi ni duʼee?” jedhee gaafate. Isaanis, “Eeyyee duʼeera” jedhanii deebisan.
But David saw his officials were whispering among themselves, he realized that the child was dead. So he asked his officials, “Did the child die?” “Yes, he died,” they replied.
20 Daawitis lafaa kaʼe. Erga dhagna isaa dhiqatee dibatee booddees uffata isaa geeddaratee mana Waaqayyoo seenee waaqeffate. Ergasii immoo gara mana ofii isaatti galee nyaata gaafannaan dhiʼeessaniif; innis ni nyaate.
David got up from the ground, washed and put on scented oils, and changed his clothes. Then he went to the house of the Lord and worshiped. Afterwards he went back home, and asked for some food. So they served him a meal which he ate.
21 Tajaajiltoonni isaas, “Ati maaliif akkana goota? Yeroo mucichi lubbuun jirutti ni soomte; ni boosses. Amma garuu mucichi duʼeera; ati immoo kaatee nyaatta!” jedhanii isa gaafatan.
“Why are you acting like this?” his officials asked him. “While the child was still alive, you fasted and cried aloud, but now that he's dead, you get up and eat.”
22 Innis akkana jedhee deebise; “Ani yeroo mucichi lubbuun turetti nan soome; nan booʼes. Ani, ‘Eenyutu beeka? Waaqayyo garaa naa laafee mucichi ni fayya’ jedhee yaadeen ture.
David replied, “While the child was still alive, I fasted and cried aloud, for I thought to myself, ‘Who knows? Maybe the Lord will be gracious to me and let him live.’
23 Amma garuu inni duʼeera; yoos ani maaliifin sooma? Ani isa deebisuu nan dandaʼaa? Anatu gara isaa dhaqa malee inni gara koo hin dhufu!”
But now that he's dead, what's the point for me to go on fasting? Can I bring him back again? One day I will die and go to him, but he will never come back to me.”
24 Ergasiis Daawit niitii isaa Batisheebaa ni jajjabeesse; dhaqees ishee wajjin ciise. Isheenis ilma deesseef; maqaa isaas Solomoon jedhanii moggaasan. Waaqayyos isa ni jaallate;
David consoled his wife Bathsheba, and he made love to her. She gave birth to a son, and named him Solomon. The Lord loved the child,
25 Waaqayyo waan isa jaallateef akka inni Yidiidiyaa jedhamee waamamuuf karaa Naataan raajichaatiin dubbii erge.
so he sent a message through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah, because the Lord loved him.
26 Yeroo sanattis Yooʼaab magaalaa Amoonotaa kan Rabbaa jedhamu waraanee daʼannoo masaraa mootummaa qabate.
At this time Joab had been fighting against the Ammonite town of Rabbah, and had captured the royal fortress.
27 Yooʼaabis akkana jedhee Daawititti ergamoota erge; “Ani magaalaa Rabbaa waraanee madda bishaan ishee qabadheera.
Joab sent messengers to David to tell him, “I have attacked Rabbah and I have also captured its water supply.
28 Egaa ati loltoota hafan walitti qabadhuutii magaalattii marsii qabadhu. Yoo kanaa achii ani magaalattii nan fudhadha; isheenis maqaa kootiin moggaafamti.”
So please call up the rest of the army, besiege the town, and capture it. Otherwise I will capture the city, and I will get the credit.”
29 Kanaafuu Daawit loltoota hunda walitti qabatee dhaqee Rabbaa waraanee qabate.
So David called up the rest of the army and marched on Rabbah. He attacked it and captured it.
30 Daawitis mataa mootii isaanii irraa gonfoo fudhate; Gonfichis mataa Daawit irra kaaʼame. Gonfoon sun hamma warqee taalaantii tokkoo ulfaatee dhagaawwan gati jabeeyyiis of irraa qaba ture. Daawitis magaalaa sana keessaa boojuu akka malee baayʼee fudhatee
He took the crown from the head of their king, and it was placed on David's head. It weighed a talent of gold and was decorated with precious stones. David took a large amount of plunder from the town.
31 namoota achi keessa turanis gad yaasee akka isaan magaaziidhaan, gasoo sibiilaatii fi qottoodhaan hojii hojjetan godhe; suphees isaan dhoofsise. Daawit magaalaawwan Amoonotaa hunda keessattis akkasuma godhe. Ergasii Daawitii fi loltoonni isaa hundinuu Yerusaalemitti ni deebiʼan.
David took the inhabitants and forced them to work with saws, iron picks, and axes, and he also made them work making bricks. He did the same in all the Ammonite towns. Then David and the whole Israelite army returned to Jerusalem.
