ହିତୋପଦେଶ 18
1 ଯେ ଆପଣାକୁ ଅନ୍ୟଠାରୁ ପୃଥକ କରେ, ସେ ଆପଣା ଇଷ୍ଟ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରେ ଓ ସର୍ବପ୍ରକାର ତତ୍ତ୍ୱଜ୍ଞାନ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ କନ୍ଦଳ କରେ।
A man who isolates himself pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment.
2 ମୂର୍ଖ ଲୋକ ବୁଦ୍ଧିରେ ସନ୍ତୋଷ ପାଏ ନାହିଁ, କେବଳ ଆପଣା ମନର କଥା ପ୍ରକାଶ କରିବାରେ ସନ୍ତୋଷ ପାଏ।
A fool has no delight in understanding, but only in revealing his own opinion.
3 ଦୁଷ୍ଟ ଆସିଲେ ଅବଜ୍ଞା ଆସେ, ପୁଣି, ଅପମାନ ସଙ୍ଗେ ଦୁର୍ନାମ ଆସେ।
When wickedness comes, contempt also comes, and with shame comes disgrace.
4 ମନୁଷ୍ୟର ମୁଖର ବାକ୍ୟ ଗଭୀର ଜଳ ତୁଲ୍ୟ, ପୁଣି, ଜ୍ଞାନର ଉତ୍ପତ୍ତି ସ୍ଥାନ ଜଳସ୍ରୋତ ସଦୃଶ।
The words of a man’s mouth are like deep waters. The fountain of wisdom is like a flowing brook.
5 ଦୁଷ୍ଟର ମୁଖାପେକ୍ଷା କରିବାର ଅବା ବିଚାରରେ ଧାର୍ମିକ ପ୍ରତି ଅନ୍ୟାୟ କରିବାର ଭଲ ନୁହେଁ।
To be partial to the faces of the wicked is not good, nor to deprive the innocent of justice.
6 ମୂର୍ଖର ଓଷ୍ଠ ବିବାଦରେ ପ୍ରବର୍ତ୍ତେ, ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ମୁଖ ମାଡ଼ ଖାଇବାକୁ ଡାକେ।
A fool’s lips come into strife, and his mouth invites beatings.
7 ମୂର୍ଖର ମୁଖ ତାହାର ବିନାଶର କାରଣ, ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ଓଷ୍ଠ ଆପଣା ପ୍ରାଣର ଫାନ୍ଦ ସ୍ୱରୂପ।
A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8 କାନେ କାନେ କହିବା ଲୋକର ବାକ୍ୟ ଅମୃତ ତୁଲ୍ୟ, ତାହା ଉଦରର ଅନ୍ତରାଳୟକୁ ଚାଲିଯାଏ।
The words of a gossip are like dainty morsels: they go down into a person’s innermost parts.
9 ଆପଣା କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ଯେ ଅଳସ, ସେ ବିନାଶ କର ଭାଇ।
One who is slack in his work is brother to him who is a master of destruction.
10 ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନାମ ଦୃଢ଼ ଗଡ଼; ଧାର୍ମିକ ଲୋକ ତହିଁକୁ ପଳାଇ ରକ୍ଷା ପାଏ।
Yahweh’s name is a strong tower: the righteous run to him, and are safe.
11 ଧନବାନର ଧନ ତାହାର ଦୃଢ଼ ନଗର, ପୁଣି, ତାହାର ବୋଧରେ ଉଚ୍ଚ ପ୍ରାଚୀର ସ୍ୱରୂପ।
The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, like an unscalable wall in his own imagination.
12 ବିନାଶ ସମ୍ମୁଖରେ ମନୁଷ୍ୟର ମନ ଗର୍ବିତ ହୁଏ, ପୁଣି, ନମ୍ରତା ସମ୍ଭ୍ରମର ସମ୍ମୁଖବର୍ତ୍ତୀ।
Before destruction the heart of man is proud, but before honor is humility.
13 ଯେ ଶୁଣିବା ପୂର୍ବେ ଉତ୍ତର କରେ, ତାହା ତାହାର ପ୍ରତି ଅଜ୍ଞାନତା ଓ ଲଜ୍ଜା।
He who answers before he hears, that is folly and shame to him.
14 ମନୁଷ୍ୟର ଆତ୍ମା ତାହାର ବ୍ୟଥା ସମ୍ଭାଳି ପାରେ; ମାତ୍ର ଭଗ୍ନ ଆତ୍ମାକୁ କିଏ ସହିପାରେ?
A man’s spirit will sustain him in sickness, but a crushed spirit, who can bear?
15 ବୁଦ୍ଧିମାନର ମନ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଉପାର୍ଜ୍ଜନ କରେ; ପୁଣି, ଜ୍ଞାନୀର କର୍ଣ୍ଣ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଖୋଜେ।
The heart of the discerning gets knowledge. The ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
16 ମନୁଷ୍ୟର ଭେଟି ତାହା ପାଇଁ ପଥ ପରିଷ୍କାର କରେ, ପୁଣି, ବଡ଼ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କ ଛାମୁକୁ ତାହାକୁ ଆଣେ।
A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.
17 ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ପ୍ରଥମେ ଆପଣା ବିବାଦ ଜଣାଏ, ସେ ଧାର୍ମିକ ଦେଖାଯାଏ, ମାତ୍ର ତାହାର ପ୍ରତିବାସୀ ଆସି ତାହାକୁ ପରୀକ୍ଷା କରେ।
He who pleads his cause first seems right— until another comes and questions him.
18 ଗୁଲିବାଣ୍ଟ ବିରୋଧ ମେଣ୍ଟଣ କରେ ଓ ବଳବାନମାନଙ୍କୁ ପୃଥକ କରେ।
The lot settles disputes, and keeps strong ones apart.
19 ବିରକ୍ତ ଭ୍ରାତା ଦୃଢ଼ ନଗର ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଦୁର୍ଜେୟ; ଏରୂପ ବିବାଦ ଗଡ଼ର ଅର୍ଗଳ ସ୍ୱରୂପ।
A brother offended is more difficult than a fortified city. Disputes are like the bars of a fortress.
20 ମନୁଷ୍ୟର ଉଦର ତାହାର ମୁଖର ଫଳରେ ପୂର୍ଣ୍ଣ ହୁଏ, ପୁଣି, ସେ ଆପଣା ଓଷ୍ଠର ଉପାର୍ଜ୍ଜନରେ ତୃପ୍ତ ହୁଏ।
A man’s stomach is filled with the fruit of his mouth. With the harvest of his lips he is satisfied.
21 ମରଣ ଓ ଜୀବନ ଜିହ୍ୱାର ଅଧୀନ; ଯେଉଁମାନେ ତାକୁ ଭଲ ଜାଣନ୍ତି, ସେମାନେ ତାହାର ଫଳ ଭୋଗିବେ।
Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.
22 ଯେଉଁ ଲୋକ ଭାର୍ଯ୍ୟା ପାଏ, ସେ ଉତ୍ତମ ବସ୍ତୁ ପାଏ ଓ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କଠାରୁ ଅନୁଗ୍ରହ ପାଏ।
Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of Yahweh.
23 ଦରିଦ୍ର ଲୋକ ବିନୟ କରେ; ମାତ୍ର ଧନବାନ କଠିନ ଉତ୍ତର ଦିଏ।
The poor plead for mercy, but the rich answer harshly.
24 ଯେ ଅନେକ ମିତ୍ର କରେ, ସେ ଆପଣା ବିନାଶ ନିମନ୍ତେ ତାହା କରେ; ମାତ୍ର ଜଣେ ପ୍ରେମକାରୀ ଅଛନ୍ତି, ଯେ ଭାଇ ଅପେକ୍ଷା ଅଧିକ ନିକଟ ଲାଗି ରହନ୍ତି।
A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
