< हितोपदेश 19 >

1 बोलीवचनमा कुटिल भई मूर्ख हुनुभन्दा आफ्नो सत्यनिष्‍ठामा हिँड्ने गरिब मानिस उत्तम हो ।
Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.
2 ज्ञानविनाको इच्छा राम्रो हुँदैन, र हतार गर्नेले बाटो बिराउँछ ।
It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge, nor being hasty with one’s feet and missing the way.
3 मान्छेको मूर्खताले त्यसको जीवन बर्बाद पार्छ, र त्यसको हृदय परमप्रभुको विरुद्धमा क्रोधित हुन्छ ।
The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against the LORD.
4 धनले धेरै मित्रहरू बनाउँछ, तर गरिब मानिसचाहिँ आफ्ना मित्रहरूबाट त्यागिन्छ ।
Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.
5 झुटो साक्षी दण्डविना उम्कने छैन, र झुटो कुरो बोल्ने फुत्कने छैन ।
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.
6 धेरैले उदार मानिसबाट निगाहको लागि बिन्ति गर्ने छन्, र हरेक व्यक्ति उपहार दिनेको मित्र बन्छ ।
Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.
7 गरिब मानिसका सबै दाजुभाइले त्यसलाई घृणा गर्छन् भने, त्यसका टाढा जाने मित्रहरूले त झन् कति धेरै त्यसलाई त्याग्लान्! त्यसले तिनीहरूलाई बोलाउँछन्, तर तिनीहरू गइसकेका हुन्छन् ।
All the relatives of the poor shun him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.
8 बुद्धि प्राप्‍त गर्नेले आफ्नो जीवनलाई प्रेम गर्छ । समझशक्तिलाई जोगाउनेले जे असल छ, त्यो पाउने छ ।
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.
9 झुटो साक्षी दण्डविना उम्कने छैन, तर झुटो कुरो बोल्नेचाहिँ नष्‍ट हुने छ ।
A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.
10 मूर्खलाई भोग-विलासमा जिउनु सुहाउँदैन भने कमाराले राजकुमारहरूमाथि शासन चलाउनु झन् कति नराम्रो हो!
Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
11 विवेकले मानिसलाई रिसाउन धिमा बनाउँछ, र चित्त दुखाइलाई बेवास्ता गर्नु त्यसको महिमा हो ।
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.
12 राजाको क्रोध जवान सिंहको गर्जनजस्तै हुन्छ, तर तिनको निगाह घाँसमाथिको शीतजस्तै हुन्छ ।
The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
13 मूर्ख छोरो त्यसको बुबाको लागि विनाश हो, र झगडा गर्ने पत्‍नीचाहिँ नित्य परिरहने तपतपे झरीजस्तै हो ।
A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.
14 घर र धन-सम्पत्ति बुबाआमाबाट आएका हुन्छन्, तर विवेकी पत्‍नीचाहिँ परमप्रभुबाट आउँछ ।
House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the LORD.
15 अल्छीपनले मानिसलाई घोर निद्रामा पुर्‍याउँछ, र काम गर्न अनिच्छुकचाहिँ भोकभोकै हुने छ ।
Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.
16 आज्ञा पालन गर्नेले त्यसको जीवनको रखवाली गर्छ, तर आफ्ना मार्गहरूबारे नसोच्नेचाहिँ मर्ने छ ।
He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.
17 गरिबप्रति दयालु हुनेले परमप्रभुलाई सापट दिन्छ, र उहाँले त्यसले गरेको कामको प्रतिफल दिनुहुने छ ।
He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; he will reward him.
18 आशा बाँकी छँदै आफ्नो छोरोलाई अनुशासनमा राख, र त्यसलाई मृत्युण्ड दिने इच्छा नबना ।
Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.
19 गरम मिजास भएको मानिसले जरिवाना तिर्नैपर्छ । त्यसलाई छुटकारा दिइस् भने तैँले दोस्रो पटक त्यसै गर्नुपर्ने हुन्छ ।
A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.
20 सरसल्लाह सुन् र अर्तीलाई स्वीकार गर्, ताकि तेरो जीवनको अन्त्यसम्ममा तँ बुद्धिमान् बन्‍न सक्छस् ।
Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.
21 मानिसको हृदयमा धेरै योजनाहरू हुन्छन्, तर परमप्रभुको उद्धेश्य नै स्थिर रहने छ ।
There are many plans in a man’s heart, but the LORD’s counsel will prevail.
22 मानिसले भक्तिको चाह गर्छ, र झुटो बोल्नेभन्दा त गरिब मानिस उत्तम हो ।
That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.
23 परमप्रभुप्रतिको आदरले मानिसहरूलाई जीवनमा डोर्‍याउँछ । यो हुने कुनै पनि व्यक्ति सन्तुष्‍ट हुने छ, र त्यसलाई नोक्सानीले छुँदैन ।
The fear of the LORD leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.
24 अल्छेले आफ्नो हात थालमा गाड्छ, र त्यसलाई आफ्नो मुखसम्म पनि ल्याउँदैन ।
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 गिल्ला गर्नेलाई हिर्का, र निर्बुद्धि मानिस विवेकी बन्‍ने छ । समझदार मानिसलाई अनुशासनमा राख्, र त्यसले ज्ञान प्राप्‍त गर्ने छ ।
Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.
26 आफ्नो बुबालाई लुट्ने र आफ्नी आमालाई लखेट्ने छोरोले लाज र बेइज्‍जत ल्याउँछ ।
He who robs his father and drives away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.
27 हे मेरो छोरो, तैँले अर्ती सुन्‍न छाडिस् भने तँ ज्ञानका वचनहरूबाट बहकिने छस् ।
If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.
28 भ्रष्‍ट साक्षीले न्यायको खिल्ली उडाउँछ, र दुष्‍टको मुखले अधर्मलाई निलिदिन्छ ।
A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.
29 गिल्ला गर्नेहरूका लागि दण्डाज्ञा र मूर्खहरूको पिठिउँको लागि कोर्रा तयार छ ।
Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.
