प्रस्थान 20
1 परमेश्वरले यी सबै वचन बोल्नुभयोः
God spoke all these words, saying,
2 “म परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्वर हुँ जसले तिमीहरूलाई मिश्र देश अर्थात् दासत्वको घरबाट निकालेर ल्याएँ ।
“I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt [Abode of slavery], out of the house of bondage.
3 मेरो अगि अरू कुनै देवी-देवता नमान्नू ।
“You shall have no other elohim ·deities, judges· before me.
4 आफ्नो निम्ति खोपेर माथि स्वर्गमा वा तल पृथ्वीमा वा पानीमुनि भएको कुनै पनि थोकको प्रतिमूर्ति नबनाउनू ।
“You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 तिनीहरूको अगि ननिहरनू वा तिनीहरूको पूजा नगर्नू किनकि म परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्वर डाही परमेश्वर हुँ । म मलाई घृणा गर्ने पिता-पुर्खाहरूको दुष्टताको दण्ड तिनीहरूका सन्तानहरूको तेस्रो र चौथो पुस्तासम्म दिनेछु ।
you shall not hawa ·bow low, prostrate· yourself down to them, nor abad ·serve· them, for I, Yahweh [He sustains breathing] your God, am El Kana' [Jealous God], visiting the depravity (moral evil) of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me,
6 तर मलाई प्रेम गर्ने र मेरा आज्ञाहरू पालन गर्ने हजारौँ पुस्तासम्म म मेरो करारको विश्वसनीयता देखाउनेछु ।
and showing chesed ·loving-kindness· to thousands of those who 'ahav ·affectionately love· me and keep my mitzvot ·instructions·.
7 परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्वरको नाउँ व्यर्थमा नलिनू किनकि मेरो नाउँ व्यर्थमा लिने जोसुकैलाई पनि म निरपराध छोड्नेछैनँ ।
“You shall not use את the name of Yahweh your God worthlessly, for Adonai will not hold him guiltless את who takes את his name in vain.
8 मेरो लागि शबाथ अलग गर्नुपर्छ भनी याद राख्नू ।
“Remember the Shabath ·Intermission· day, to keep it holy.
9 तिमीहरूले छ दिनसम्म परिश्रम गर्नुपर्छ र काम गर्नुपर्छ ।
You shall labor six days, and do all your work,
10 तर सातौँचाहिँ दिन परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्वरको शबाथ हो । यस दिनमा तिमीहरूले, तिमीहरूका छोराछोरी वा तिमीहरूका कमारा-कमारी वा तिमीहरूका गाईवस्तु वा तिमीहरूको द्वारभित्र भएका परदेशीले कुनै काम नगरोस् ।
but the seventh day is a Shabath ·Intermission· to Adonai your God. You shall not do any work in it, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your livestock, nor your stranger who is within your gates;
11 किनकि छ दिनमा परमप्रभुले स्वर्ग र पृथ्वी, समुद्र र तिनमा भएका सबै थोक बनाउनुभयो अनि सातौँ दिनमा चाहिँ उहाँले विश्राम लिनुभयो । त्यसकारण परमप्रभुले शबाथ-दिनलाई आशिष् दिनुभयो र यसलाई पवित्र तुल्याउनुभयो ।
for in six days Adonai made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day; therefore Adonai blessed the Shabath ·Intermission· day, and made it holy.
12 आफ्ना बुबा र आमालाई आदर गर्नू ताकि परमप्रभु तिमीहरूका परमेश्वरले तिमीहरूलाई दिन लाग्नुभएको देशमा तिमीहरूको आयु लामो होस् ।
“Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land which Adonai your God gives you.
13 कसैको हत्या नगर्नू ।
“You shall not murder.
14 कसैसित व्यभिचार नगर्नू ।
“You shall not commit adultery.
15 कसैबाट केही नचोर्नू ।
“You shall not steal.
16 आफ्नो छिमेकीको विरुद्धमा झुटो गवाही नदिनू ।
“You shall not give false witness against your neighbor.
17 आफ्नो छिमेकीको घरको लालच नगर्नू; आफ्नो छिमेकीकी पत्नीको लालच नगर्नू; आफ्नो छिमेकीको कमारा, कमारी, गोरु, गधा वा कुनै पनि थोकको लालच नगर्नू ।”
“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
18 सबै मानिसले गर्जनको आवाज सुने र बिजुली चम्केको देखे अनि तुरहीको आवाज सुने र पर्वतबाट धुवा उठिरहेको देखे । मानिसहरूले यो देख्दा तिनीहरू थरथर काँपे र टाढै बसे ।
All the people perceived the thunder, the lightnings, the sound of the shofar ·ram horn·, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.
19 तिनीहरूले मोशालाई भने, “हामीसित कुरा गर्नुहोस् र हामी तपाईंको कुरा सुन्नेछौँ । तर परमेश्वर हामीसित नबोल्नुभएको होस् नत्रता हामी मर्नेछौँ ।”
They said to Moses [Drawn out], “Speak with us yourself, and we will sh'ma ·hear obey·; but don’t let God speak with us, lest we die.”
20 मोशाले मानिसहरूलाई भने, “नडराओ किनकि तिमीहरूमा उहाँको डर होस् र तिमीहरूले पाप नगरून् भनी तिमीहरूलाई जाँच गर्न परमेश्वर ओर्लनुभएको छ ।”
Moses [Drawn out] said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin ·err (the standard goal)·.”
21 त्यसैले मानिसहरू टाढै खडा रहे, अनि मोशा परमेश्वर हुनुभएको बाक्लो बादलको नजिक गए ।
The people stayed at a distance, and Moses [Drawn out] came near to the thick darkness where God was.
22 परमप्रभुले मोशालाई भन्नुभयो, “तैँले इस्राएलीहरूलाई यसो भन्नूः मैले स्वर्गबाट तिमीहरूसित कुराकानी गरेको तिमीहरू आफैले देखेका छौ ।
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “This is what you shall tell the children of Israel [God prevails]: ‘You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.
23 तिमीहरूले मबाहेक सुन वा चाँदीको कुनै पनि देवी-देवता नबनाउनू ।
You shall most certainly not make alongside of me deities of silver, or deities of gold for yourselves.
24 मेरो निम्ति माटोको वेदी बनाउनू, र त्यहाँ तिमीहरूले होमबलि, मेलबलि, भेडा र गोरुहरू बलिदान गर्नू । मेरो नाउँको आदर गरिने हरेक ठाउँमा म तिमीहरूकहाँ आएर तिमीहरूलाई आशिष् दिनेछु ।
You shall make an altar of earth for me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your sheep and your cattle. In every place where I record my name I will come to you and I will bless you.
25 तिमीहरूले मेरो निम्ति ढुङ्गाको वेदी बनायौ भने तिमीहरूले कुँदेको ढुङ्गाबाट नबनाउनू किनकि तिमीहरूले त्यसमा सामग्रीहरूको प्रयोग गर्दा तिमीहरूले यसलाई अशुद्ध तुल्याउनेछौ ।
If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it.
26 तिमीहरूको नग्नता नदेखियोस् भनेर खुट्किलाहरू बनाएर मेरो वेदीमा नउक्लनू ।
You shall not go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness may not be exposed to it.’
