1 Ami laga bhai kokai khan, amikhan laga mohima aru biswas to Probhu Jisu Khrista logote thaka hisab te, apuni kunke bhi pakshapat nadikhabi.
My Brothers, are you really trying to combine faith in Jesus Christ, our glorified Lord, with the worship of rank?
2 Jodi kunba apuni khan joma kori thaka jagate suna aru bhal kapra lagai kene ahe, aru ta te ekjon gorib manu bhi letera kapra lagai kene ahe.
Suppose a man should enter your Synagogue, with gold rings and in grand clothes, and suppose a poor man should come in also, in shabby clothes,
3 Kintu jodi apuni bhal kapra lagai kene thaka ke koi ase, “Apuni yate bhal jagate bohibi,” kintu ekjon gorib ke koi, “Apuni ta te khara koribi” nohoile “Ami laga theng niche matite bohibi,”
and you are deferential to the man who is wearing grand clothes, and say — “There is a good seat for you here,” but to the poor man — “You must stand; or sit down there by my footstool,”
4 apuni khan nijor majote bisar kori ase nohoi? Apuni biya bhabona loi kene bisar kora manu hoi ase nohoi?
Is not that to make distinctions among yourselves, and show yourselves prejudiced judges?
5 Huni bhi, moi laga morom bhai khan, Isor he prithibi laga gorib ke biswas te dhuni hobole diya nohoi, aru kun manu Taike morom kore taikhan ke Tai laga rajyote jaga diye nohoi?
Listen, my dear Brothers. Has not God chosen those who are poor in the things of this world to be rich through their faith, and to possess the Kingdom which he has promised to those who love him?
6 Kintu apuni gorib ke opman korise! Etu dhuni khan pora he apuni ke dukh diya nohoi? Aru taikhan he apnikhan ke bisar kori bole bisar ghor te loijai nohoi?
But you — you insult the poor man! Is not it the rich who oppress you? Is not it they who drag you into law-courts?
7 Apnikhan ke kuntu sonman thaka naam Isor pora matise, etu naam ke sorom khilai dise nohoi?
Is not it they who malign that honourable Name which has been bestowed upon you?
8 Jodi, apuni, Isor laga niyom mani kene thake, “Apuni laga ghor usorte thaka manu ke nijor nisena morom koribo,” titia apuni bhal kori ase.
Yet, if you keep the royal law which runs — ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thou dost thyself,’ you are doing right;
9 Kintu jodi apuni bhal pai thaka manu ke he sai, apuni paap kori ase, aru apuni niyom bhangai diya manu ase.
but, if you worship rank, you commit a sin, and stand convicted by that same law of being offenders against it.
10 Jodi kunba pora niyom pura mane, hoile bhi tai chutu jaga ekta te giri jai, titia tai pura niyom bhangai diya manu hoise.
For a man who has laid the Law, as a whole, to heart, but has failed in one particular, is liable for breaking all its provisions.
11 Kelemane etu ekjon kun eneka koise, “Bebichari nokoribi,” tai pora etu bhi koise, “Manu ke morai nadibi.” Kintu jodi apuni bebichari nakore, kintu manu ke morai diye, titia hoile apuni niyom bhanga manu ase.
He who said ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’ also said ‘Thou shalt not murder.’ If, then, you commit murder but not adultery, you are still an offender against the Law.
12 Etu karone amikhan ke mukti diya niyom pora bisar kori bole thaka nimite, ki koi ase etu nijor pora bhi koribi.
Therefore, speak and act as men who are to be judged by the ‘Law of Freedom.’
13 Kelemane kun pora daya nadikhai, bisar to etu manu uporte ahe. Daya he bisar uporte jiti loi.
For there will be justice without mercy for him who has not acted mercifully. Mercy triumphs over Justice.
14 Ki bhal ase, moi laga bhai khan, jodi kunba manu koi tai logote biswas ase, kintu tai logote kaam to nai? Titia hoile etu biswas pora taike bacha bole paribo?
My Brothers, what is the good of a man’s saying that he has faith, if he does not prove it by actions? Can such faith save him?
15 Jodi ekjon bhai aru bhoini biya kapra lagai kene ase aru khabole nimite napai kene thaki ase.
Suppose some Brother or Sister should be in want of clothes and of daily bread,
16 Etiya ekjon pora taikhan ke eneka koise, “Shanti pora jabi, bhorta hoi kene bhal pora thakibi.” Kintu jodi apuni taikhan laga gaw pora ki lage etu nadiye, titia hoile ki bhal ase?
and one of you were to say to them — “Go, and peace be with you; find warmth and food for yourselves,” and yet you were not to give them the necessaries of life, what good would it be to them?
17 Etu nisena biswas tai nijor pora, kaam nathakile, mora ase.
In just the same way faith, if not followed by actions, is, by itself, a lifeless thing.
18 Kunba pora eneka kobole pare, “Apuni logote biswas ase, aru moi logote kaam ase.” Apuni kaam nathaki kene biswas to dikhai dibi, aru moi laga kaam pora apuni ke biswas to dikhai dibo.
Some one, indeed, may say — “You are a man of faith, and I am a man of action.” “Then show me your faith,” I reply, “apart from any actions, and I will show you my faith by my actions.”
19 Apuni biswas kore ki Isor ekta ase; apuni bhal pora jane. Saitan khan bhi etu jane, aru taikhan bhoi pora kape.
It is a part of your Faith, is it not, that there is one God? Good; yet even the demons have that faith, and tremble at the thought.
20 Kintu apuni janibole mon ase, murkho manu khan, biswas logote kaam nathakile eku labh nai?
Now do you really want to understand, you foolish man, how it is that faith without actions leads to nothing?
21 Amikhan laga baba Abraham pora jitia tai laga chokra Isaac ke daan dibole nimite thakise, tai laga kaam pora taike thik korise nohoi?
Look at our ancestor, Abraham. Was not it the result of his actions that he was pronounced righteous after he had offered his son, Isaac, on the altar?
22 Apuni sabi tai laga biswas aru kaam eke logote kaam korise. Aru kaam pora he biswas to thik korise.
You see how, in his case, faith and actions went together; that his faith was perfected as the result of his actions;
23 Isor laga kotha eneka koi kene pura hoise, “Kintu Abraham Isor ke biswas korise, aru etu pora tai dharmik ase koi kene manise,” aru taike Isor laga sathi matise.
and that in this way the words of Scripture came true — “Abraham believed God, and that was regarded by God as righteousness,” and “He was called the friend of God.”
24 Apuni sabi, ekjon manu ke khali biswas ekela pora nohoi, kintu biswas logote kaam pora he taike thik kore.
You see, then, that it is as the result of his actions that a man is pronounced righteous, and not of his faith only.
25 Kintu etu nisena pora he, Rahab bhi tai laga kaam pora bisar kora nai naki, jitia tai Isor manu khan ke matise aru dusra rasta pora pathai dise?
Was not it the same with the prostitute, Rahab? Was not it as the result of her actions that she was pronounced righteous, after she had welcomed the messengers and hastened them away by a different road?
26 Jineka ekta gaw te atma nathakile gaw to mora ase, etu nisena biswas logote kaam nathakile etu biswas to mora ase.
Exactly as a body is dead without a spirit, so faith is dead without actions.
