< Engero 3 >
1 Mwana wange, teweerabiranga bintu bye nakuyigiriza, era okuumanga ebiragiro byange mu mutima gwo,
My son, keep my teaching in your memory, and my rules in your heart:
2 kubanga bijja kuwangaaza obulamu bwo ku nsi, era bikukulaakulanye.
For they will give you increase of days, years of life, and peace.
3 Amazima n’ekisa tobyerabiranga; byesibe mu bulago bwo, obiwandiike ku mutima gwo.
Let not mercy and good faith go from you; let them be hanging round your neck, recorded on your heart;
4 Bw’otyo bw’onoofuna okuganja n’okusiimibwa eri Katonda n’eri abantu.
So you will have grace and a good name in the eyes of God and men.
5 Weesige Mukama n’omutima gwo gwonna, so teweesigamanga ku magezi go gokka.
Put all your hope in God, not looking to your reason for support.
6 Mukama mukulembezenga mu by’okola byonna, naye anaakuluŋŋamyanga n’owangula.
In all your ways give ear to him, and he will make straight your footsteps.
7 Amagezi go tegakusigulanga, naye otyanga Mukama, era weewale okukola ebibi.
Put no high value on your wisdom: let the fear of the Lord be before you, and keep yourself from evil:
8 Onoofunanga obulamu mu mubiri gwo n’amagumba go ne gadda buggya.
This will give strength to your flesh, and new life to your bones.
9 Mukama mugulumizenga n’eby’obugagga byo; n’ebibala ebisooka eby’ebintu byo byonna eby’omu nnimiro yo,
Give honour to the Lord with your wealth, and with the first-fruits of all your increase:
10 olwo amaterekero go lwe ganajjulanga ebintu enkumu, era n’amasenero go ne gajjula ne gabooga omwenge omusu.
So your store-houses will be full of grain, and your vessels overflowing with new wine.
11 Mwana wange tonyoomanga kukangavvula kwa Mukama, n’okunenya kwe kulemenga okukukooya,
My son, do not make your heart hard against the Lord's teaching; do not be made angry by his training:
12 kubanga Mukama anenya oyo gw’ayagala, nga kitaawe w’omwana bw’anenya mutabani we gwe yeenyumiririzaamu.
For to those who are dear to him the Lord says sharp words, and makes the son in whom he has delight undergo pain.
13 Aweereddwa omukisa oyo afuna amagezi, omuntu oyo afuna okutegeera,
Happy is the man who makes discovery of wisdom, and he who gets knowledge.
14 kubanga amagezi gasinga ffeeza era galimu amagoba okusinga zaabu.
For trading in it is better than trading in silver, and its profit greater than bright gold.
15 Amagezi ga muwendo mungi okusinga amayinja ag’omuwendo omungi: era tewali kyegombebwa kiyinza kugeraageranyizibwa nago.
She is of more value than jewels, and nothing for which you may have a desire is fair in comparison with her.
16 Mu mukono gwago ogwa ddyo mwe muli obuwanguzi; ne mu mukono gwago ogwa kkono ne mubaamu obugagga n’ekitiibwa.
Long life is in her right hand, and in her left are wealth and honour.
17 Mu magezi mulimu essanyu, era n’amakubo gaago ga mirembe.
Her ways are ways of delight, and all her goings are peace.
18 Amagezi muti gwa bulamu eri abo abagakwata ne baganyweza; abo abagakwata ne baganyweza baliweebwa omukisa.
She is a tree of life to all who take her in their hands, and happy is everyone who keeps her.
19 Amagezi, Mukama ge yakozesa okuteekawo emisingi gy’ensi; n’okutegeera kwe yakozesa okuteekawo eggulu;
The Lord by wisdom put in position the bases of the earth; by reason he put the heavens in their place.
20 n’okumanya kwe, kwe yakozesa okwawula obuziba bw’ennyanja, era n’ebire ne bivaamu omusulo.
By his knowledge the deep was parted, and dew came dropping from the skies.
21 Mwana wange, beeranga n’okuteesa okulungi n’okusalawo ebisaana, ebyo biremenga okukuvaako,
My son, keep good sense, and do not let wise purpose go from your eyes.
22 binaabeeranga obulamu eri emmeeme yo, era ekyokwambala ekirungi ekinaawoomesanga obulago bwo.
So they will be life for your soul, and grace for your neck.
23 Bw’otyo bw’onootambulanga nga onyweredde mu kkubo lyo, era ekigere kyo tekijjanga kwesittala.
Then you will go safely on your way, and your feet will have no cause for slipping.
24 Bw’onoogalamiranga toobenga na kutya, weewaawo bw’oneebakanga otulo tunaakuwoomeranga.
When you take your rest you will have no fear, and on your bed sleep will be sweet to you.
25 Totyanga kabenje kootomanyiridde, wadde okuzikirira okujjira abakozi b’ebibi,
Have no fear of sudden danger, or of the storm which will come on evil-doers:
26 Kubanga Mukama y’anaabeeranga obwesigwa bwo, era anaalabiriranga ekigere kyo ne kitakwatibwa mu mutego.
For the Lord will be your hope, and will keep your foot from being taken in the net.
27 Tommanga birungi abo be bisaanira bwe kibeera mu buyinza bwo okukikola.
Do not keep back good from those who have a right to it, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
28 Togambanga muliraanwa wo nti, “Genda, onodda enkya ne nkuwa,” ate nga kye yeetaaga okirina.
Say not to your neighbour, Go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when you have it by you at the time.
29 Totegekanga kukola bulabe ku muliraanwa wo, atudde emirembe ng’akwesiga.
Do not make evil designs against your neighbour, when he is living with you without fear.
30 Tovunaananga muntu n’omu awatali nsonga nga talina kabi k’akukoze.
Do not take up a cause at law against a man for nothing, if he has done you no wrong.
31 Tokwatirwanga obuggya omuntu ayigganya abalala, era tokolanga nga ye bw’akola,
Have no envy of the violent man, or take any of his ways as an example.
32 kubanga omuntu omugwagwa wa muzizo eri Mukama, naye abo abagolokofu abalinamu obwesige.
For the wrong-hearted man is hated by the Lord, but he is a friend to the upright.
33 Ekikolimo kya Mukama kiri ku nnyumba y’ababi, naye awa omukisa ennyumba y’abatuukirivu.
The curse of the Lord is on the house of the evil-doer, but his blessing is on the tent of the upright.
34 Ddala ddala, Mukama anyooma abanyoomi, naye abeetoowaza abawa ekisa.
He makes sport of the men of pride, but he gives grace to the gentle-hearted.
35 Ab’amagezi balisikira ekitiibwa, naye abasirusiru baliswazibwa.
The wise will have glory for their heritage, but shame will be the reward of the foolish.
