< 1 Samwiri 21 >
1 Dawudi n’agenda e Nobu eri Akimereki kabona. Akimereki n’ajja ng’akankana okusisinkana Dawudi, n’amubuuza nti, “Lwaki oli wekka? Tewali muntu mulala ali wamu naawe?”
Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said to him, Why [art] thou alone, and no man with thee?
2 Dawudi n’addamu Akimereki kabona nti, “Kabaka alina ensonga gye yantumye, n’aŋŋamba nti, ‘Tewaba n’omu amanya ku nsonga eno, era n’ebiragiro bye nkuwadde.’ Abasajja bange mbagambye we banansisinkana.
And David said to Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said to me, Let no man know any thing of the business about which I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed [my] servants to such and such a place.
3 Kale nno kiki ky’olina wo? Mpaayo emigaati etaano, oba kyonna ky’olinawo.”
Now therefore what is under thy hand? give [me] five [loaves of] bread in my hand, or what there is present.
4 Kabona n’addamu Dawudi nti, “Sirinaawo migaati gya bulijjo okuggyako emigaati egyatukuzibwa, wabula nga abasajja bo beetukuza era nga beekuumye obuteetaba na bakazi.”
And the priest answered David, and said, [There is] no common bread under my hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.
5 Dawudi n’amugamba nti, “Abakazi tebabeera naffe, era bulijjo bwe kitera okuba bwe tugenda ku mulimu. Emibiri gy’abasajja giba mitukuvu ne bwe baba ku ŋŋendo eza bulijjo. Kale obanga tutera okwekuuma, olowooza leero emibiri gyabwe tegisinga nnyo kuba mitukuvu?”
And David answered the priest, and said to him, Of a truth women [have been] kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and [the bread is] in a manner common, yes, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.
6 Awo kabona n’amuwa emigaati egyatukuzibwa kubanga tewaaliwo migaati mirala wabula emigaati egy’Okulaga egyaggibwanga mu maaso ga Mukama, buli lunaku nga giwoze, egibuguma ne gissibwawo mu kifo kya gyo.
So the priest gave him hallowed [bread]: for there was no bread there but the show-bread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.
7 Ku lunaku olwo omu ku baweereza ba Sawulo eyayitibwanga Dowegi Omwedomu, era nga ye mukulu w’abasumba ba Sawulo, yali asigadde mu maaso ga Mukama okutukuzibwa.
Now a certain man of the servants of Saul [was] there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name [was] Doeg, an Edomite, the chief of the herdmen that [belonged] to Saul.
8 Dawudi n’abuuza Akimereki nti, “Tolinaawo ffumu newaakubadde ekitala awo? Ssaayise na kitala kyange newaakubadde ekyokulwanyisa n’ekimu, kubanga omulimu kabaka gwe yantumye gwabadde gwa kukolerawo.”
And David said to Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand a spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.
9 Kabona n’amuddamu nti, “Ekitala kya Goliyaasi Omufirisuuti gwe wattira mu kiwonvu Era, weekiri wano; kisabikiddwa mu lugoye emabega w’ekkanzu ey’obwakabona eyitibwa efodi. Bw’oba ng’okyetaaga, kitwale. Tewaliwo kitala kirala wabula ekyo.” Dawudi n’ayogera nti, “Tewali kikyenkana; kimpe.”
And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it [is here] wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take [it]: for [there is] no other save that here. And David said, [There is] none like that; give it to me.
10 Ku lunaku olwo Dawudi n’adduka Sawulo n’agenda eri Akisi kabaka w’e Gaasi.
And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.
And the servants of Achish said to him, [Is] not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
12 Dawudi n’akuuma ebigambo ebyo mu mutima gwe, era n’atya nnyo Akisi kabaka w’e Gaasi.
And David laid up these words in his heart, and was greatly afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 Kyeyava yeefuula omulalu mu maaso gaabwe, n’aba ng’agudde eddalu, n’awandiika ebitategeerekeka ku wankaaki, nga bw’akulukusa amalusu ku birevu bye.
And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.
14 Akisi n’agamba abaweereza be nti, “Mulabe! Omusajja mulalu! Lwaki mumundeetedde?
Then said Achish to his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: why [then] have ye brought him to me?
15 Mbuliddwa abalalu, n’okuleeta ne mundeetera omusajja ono okukola ebifaanana bwe biti mu maaso gange? Omusajja ono asaana okuggya mu nnyumba yange?”
Have I need of mad-men, that ye have brought this [man] to play the mad-man in my presence? shall this [man] come into my house?
