1 Universus ergo Israel dinumeratus est: et summa eorum scripta est in Libro regum Israel, et Iuda: translatique sunt in Babylonem propter delictum suum.
So all Israel was recorded in the genealogies written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. But Judah was exiled to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2 Qui autem habitaverunt primi in possessionibus, et in urbibus suis: Israel, et Sacerdotes, et Levitae, et Nathinaei.
Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3 Commorati sunt in Ierusalem de filiis Iuda, et de filiis Beniamin, de filiis quoque Ephraim, et Manasse.
These were some of the descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh who lived in Jerusalem:
4 Othei filius Ammiud, filii Amri, filii Omrai, filii Bonni, de filiis Phares filii Iuda.
Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah.
5 Et de Siloni: Asaia primogenitus, et filii eius.
From the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6 De filiis autem Zara: Iehuel, et fratres eorum, sexcenti nonaginta.
From the Zerahites: Jeuel and 690 relatives.
7 Porro de filiis Beniamin: Salo filius Mosollam, filii Oduia, filii Asana:
From the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;
8 et Iobania filius Ieroham: et Ela filius Ozi, filii Mochori: et Mosollam filius Saphatiae, filii Rahuel, filii Iebaniae,
Ibneiah son of Jeroham; Elah son of Uzzi, the son of Michri; Meshullam son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;
9 et fratres eorum per familias suas, nongenti quinquaginta sex. Omnes hi, principes cognationum per domos patrum suorum.
and 956 of their relatives according to their genealogy. All these men were heads of their families.
10 De sacerdotibus autem: Iedaia, Ioiarib, et Iachin:
From the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin;
11 Azarias quoque filius Helciae, filii Mosollam, filii Sadoc, filii Maraioth, filii Achitob, pontifex domus Dei.
Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief official of God’s temple;
12 Porro Adaias filius Ieroham, filii Phassur, filii Melchiae: et Maasai filius Adiel, filii Iezra, filii Mosollam, filii Mosollamith, filii Emmer.
Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;
13 fratres quoque eorum principes per familias suas, mille septingenti sexaginta, fortissimi robore ad faciendum opus ministerii in domo Dei.
and 1,760 of their relatives, the heads of their families, able men for the work of the service of the house of God.
14 De Levitis autem: Semeia filius Hassub filii Ezricam, filii Hasebia de filiis Merari.
From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a descendant of Merari;
15 Bacbacar quoque carpentarius, et Galal, et Mathania filius Micha, filii Zechri, filii Asaph:
Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;
16 et Obdia filius Semeiae, filii Galal, filii Idithun: et Barachia filius Asa, filii Elcana, qui habitavit in atriis Netophati.
Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
17 Ianitores autem: Sellum, et Accub, et Telmon, et Ahimam: et frater eorum Sellum princeps,
These were the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives. Shallum was their chief;
18 usque ad illud tempus, in porta regis ad orientem, observabant per vices suas de filiis Levi.
he was previously stationed at the King’s Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites.
19 Sellum vero filius Core filii Abiasaph, filii Core, cum fratribus suis, et domo patris sui, hi sunt Coritae super opera ministerii, custodes vestibulorum tabernaculi: et familiae eorum per vices castrorum Domini custodientes introitum.
Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
20 Phinees autem filius Eleazari, erat dux eorum coram Domino.
In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
21 Porro Zacharias filius Mosollamia, ianitor portae tabernaculi testimonii.
Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
22 Omnes hi electi in ostiarios per portas, ducenti duodecim: et descripti in villis propriis: quos constituerunt David, et Samuel Videns, in fide sua
The number of those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds was 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their positions of trust.
23 tam ipsos, quam filios eorum in ostiis domus Domini, et in tabernaculo vicibus suis.
So they and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the Tent.
24 Per quattuor ventos erant ostiarii: id est ad Orientem, et ad Occidentem, et ad Aquilonem, et ad Austrum.
The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25 Fratres autem eorum in viculis morabantur, et veniebant in sabbatis suis de tempore usque ad tempus.
Their relatives came from their villages at fixed times to serve with them for seven-day periods.
26 His quattuor Levitis creditus erat omnis numerus ianitorum, et erant super exedras, et thesauros domus Domini.
But the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the rooms and the treasuries of the house of God.
27 Per gyrum quoque templi Domini morabantur in custodiis suis: ut cum tempus fuisset, ipsi mane aperirent fores.
They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
28 De horum grege erant et super vasa ministerii: ad numerum enim et inferebantur vasa, et efferebantur.
Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
29 De ipsis et qui credita habebant utensilia sanctuarii, praeerant similae, et vino, et oleo, et thuri, et aromatibus.
Others were put in charge of the furnishings and other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.
30 Filii autem sacerdotum unguenta ex aromatibus conficiebant.
And some of the sons of the priests mixed the spices.
31 Et Mathathias Levites primogenitus Sellum Coritae, praefectus erat eorum, quae in sartagine frigebantur.
A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with baking the bread.
32 Porro de filiis Caath fratribus eorum, super panes erant propositionis, ut semper novos per singula sabbata praepararent.
Some of their Kohathite brothers were responsible for preparing the rows of the showbread every Sabbath.
33 Hi sunt principes cantorum per familias Levitarum, qui in exedris morabantur, ut die ac nocte iugiter suo ministerio deservirent.
Those who were musicians, the heads of Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were exempt from other duties because they were on duty day and night.
34 Capita Levitarum, per familias suas principes, manserunt in Ierusalem.
All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs according to their genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
35 In Gabaon autem commorati sunt pater Gabaon Iehiel, et nomen uxoris eius Maacha.
Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maacah.
36 Filius primogenitus eius Abdon, et Sur, et Cis, et Baal, et Ner, et Nadab,
Abdon was his firstborn son, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 Gedor quoque, et Ahio, et Zacharias, et Macelloth.
Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 Porro Macelloth genuit Samaan: isti habitaverunt e regione fratrum suorum in Ierusalem, cum fratribus suis.
Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived alongside their relatives in Jerusalem.
39 Ner autem genuit Cis: et Cis genuit Saul: et Saul genuit Ionathan, et Melchisua, et Abinadab, et Esbaal.
Ner was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.
40 Filius autem Ionathan, Meribbaal: et Meribbaal genuit Micha.
The son of Jonathan: Merib-baal, who was the father of Micah.
41 Porro filii Micha, Phithon, et Melech, et Tharaa, et Ahaz.
The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42 Ahaz autem genuit Iara, et Iara genuit Alamath, et Azmoth, et Zamri. Zamri autem genuit Mosa.
Ahaz was the father of Jarah; Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 Mosa vero genuit Banaa: cuius filius Raphaia, genuit Elasa: de quo ortus est Asel.
Moza was the father of Binea. Rephaiah was his son, Elasah his son, and Azel his son.
44 Porro Asel sex filios habuit his nominibus, Ezricam, Bocru, Ismahel, Saria, Obdia, Hanan. hi sunt filii Asel.
And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
