Jeremiah 29
1 Nga simusla leta se nu sin mwet tol, mwet palu, mwet kol lun mwet uh, ac mwet nukewa ma Nebuchadnezzar el usla liki acn Jerusalem nu ke sruoh in acn Babylonia.
And these [are] the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the remnant of [the] elderly of the expulsion, and to the priests, and to the prophets, and to all the people—whom Nebuchadnezzar removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,
2 Nga simusla tukun pacl se Tokosra Jehoiachin, wi nina kial, mwet leum inkul fulat, mwet kol lun Judah ac Jerusalem, mwet usrnguk in sroasr, ac mwet pah in orekma ke osra elos utukla nu in sruoh.
after the going forth of Jeconiah the king, and the mistress, and the officers, heads of Judah and Jerusalem, and the craftsman, and the smith, from Jerusalem—
3 Nga sang leta sac nu sel Elasah wen natul Shaphan, ac Gemariah wen natul Hilkiah, su Tokosra Zedekiah lun Judah el ac supwala nu yorol Tokosra Nebuchadnezzar lun Babylonia. Pa inge kas ke leta sac:
by the hand of Eleasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, saying,
4 “LEUM GOD Kulana, God lun Israel, El fahk nu sin mwet nukewa ma El lela Nebuchadnezzar elan usla liki Jerusalem nu ke sruoh in Babylonia:
“Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel, to all the expulsion that I removed from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 ‘Kowos in musaela lohm suwos ac okaki we. Yukwiya ima ac mongo ke fokin ima inge.
Build houses and abide; and plant gardens and eat their fruit;
6 Payukyak ac oswela tulik. Na sang tulik nutuwos an in payukyak, tuh in oasr pac tulik natulos. Enenu kowos in puseni ac tia pueni.
take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, and they bear sons and daughters; and multiply there, and you are not few;
7 Kowos orekma in akwoye siti ma nga supwekowosla in mwet sruoh we. Pre kaclos nu sik, mweyen elos fin kapkapak, na kowos ac kapkapak pac.
and seek the peace of the city to where I have removed you, and pray to YHWH for it, for in its peace you have peace.
8 Nga, LEUM GOD lun Israel, akasmakye kowos in tiana lela mwet palu su muta inmasrlowos, ku kutepacna mwet su fahk mu ku in palye pacl fahsru, in kiapwekowos. Nimet kowos lohang nu ke mweme lalos.
For thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: Do not let your prophets who [are] in your midst, and your diviners, lift you up, nor listen to their dreams, that you are causing [them] to dream;
9 Elos fahk kas na kikiap Inek. Nga tiana supwalos. Nga, LEUM GOD Kulana, pa fahk ma inge.’
for they are prophesying with falsehood to you in My Name; I have not sent them, a declaration of YHWH.
10 “LEUM GOD El fahk, ‘Ke yac itngoul lun Babylonia inge ac safla uh, nga fah akkalemye pakomuta luk nu suwos, ac akpwayei wulela luk in folokinkowosme nu yen suwos.
For thus said YHWH: Surely at the fullness of Babylon—seventy years—I inspect you, and have established My good word toward you, to bring you back to this place.
11 Nga mukena pa etu ma nga akoo nu suwos — akoo luk uh pa in oru tuh kowos in kapkapak, ac tia in kunauskowosla; ac in sot pacl wo ma kowos finsrak kac.
For I have known the thoughts that I am thinking toward you—a declaration of YHWH; thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give posterity and hope to you.
12 In pacl sacn kowos ac fah pang nu sik. Kowos ac tuku pre nu sik, ac nga fah topuk kowos.
And you have called Me, and have gone, and have prayed to Me, and I have listened to you,
13 Kowos ac sukyu ac fah koneyuyak, mweyen kowos ac sukyu ke insiowos na pwaye.
and you have sought Me, and have found, for you seek Me with all your heart;
14 Aok, nga fahk mu kowos ac koneyuyak, ac nga fah folokinkowosla nu yen suwos. Nga fah uskowoseni liki mutunfacl nukewa ac liki acn nukewa ma nga akfahsryekowoselik nu we, ac nga fah folokinkowosme nu in facl se nga supwekowosla liki nu ke sruoh. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.’
and I have been found by you—a declaration of YHWH; and I have turned back [to] your captivity, and have gathered you out of all the nations, and out of all the places to where I have driven you—a declaration of YHWH—and I have brought you back to the place from where I removed you.
15 “Kowos fahk mu oasr mwet palu LEUM GOD El tuh sot nu suwos in Babylonia.
Because you have said, YHWH has raised up prophets to us in Babylon,
16 Porongo ma LEUM GOD El fahk ke tokosra su kol tokosrai ma David el tuh leumi, ac ke mwet in siti se inge — aok, mwet in sou lowos su tia wi kowos utukla nu in sruoh.
surely thus said YHWH concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that are dwelling in this city, your brothers who did not go forth with you in the expulsion—
17 LEUM GOD Kulana El fahk, ‘Nga ac use mweun, sracl, ac mas upa nu faclos, ac nga fah oru elos in oana fig ma arulana kolukla, tia ku in mongo.
thus said YHWH of Hosts: Behold, I am sending the sword, the famine, and the pestilence among them, and I have given them up as figs that [are] vile, that are not eaten because of badness.
18 Nga fah oru tuh mweun, sracl, ac mas upa, in ukwalos na, ac mutunfacl nukewa faclu ac fah sangengla ke elos ac liye uh. Yen nukewa nga akfahsryeloselik nu we, mwet uh ac fah lut ac arulana sangeng ke ma sikyak nu selos. Mwet uh ac fah isrunulos, ac orekmakin inelos in mwe selnga lalos.
And I have pursued after them with sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and have given them for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth, for a curse and for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for a reproach among all the nations to where I have driven them,
19 Ma inge ac sikyak nu selos mweyen elos tia akos kas su nga supuna nu yorolos sin mwet kulansap luk mwet palu. Elos tiana lungse lohng.
because that they have not listened to My words—a declaration of YHWH—that I sent to them by My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and you did not listen—a declaration of YHWH.
20 Kowos nukewa su nga supwala nu ke sruoh Babylonia, porongo ma nga, LEUM GOD, fahk nu suwos.’
And you, hear a word of YHWH, all you of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon—
21 “LEUM GOD Kulana, God lun Israel, El kaskas kacl Ahab wen natul Kolaiah, ac kacl Zedekiah wen natul Maaseiah, su fahkot kas kikiap nu suwos Inen LEUM GOD. El fahk mu El ac eisalosyang nu in paol Tokosra Nebuchadnezzar lun Babylonia, su ac fah onelosi ye motowos.
thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning Ahab son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah son of Maaseiah, who are prophesying falsehood to you in My Name: Behold, I am giving them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he has struck them before your eyes,
22 Ke mwet sruoh ma utukla liki acn Jerusalem nu Babylonia elos ac selngawi sie mwet, elos ac fahk, ‘Lela LEUM GOD Elan oru nu sum oana El oru nu sel Zedekiah ac Ahab, su tokosra lun Babylonia el munanla ke eltal moulna!’
and because of them a reviling has been taken by all the expulsion of Judah that [are] in Babylon, saying, YHWH sets you as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;
23 Pa inge ma ac sikyak nu selos ke sripen ma koluk na yohk elos oru — elos orek kosro yurin mutan kien mwet tulan lalos, ac fahkak kas na kikiap Inen LEUM GOD. Ma inge lain ma lungse lun LEUM GOD. El etu ma elos oru, ac El orek loh lainulos. LEUM GOD pa fahk ma inge.”
because that they have done folly in Israel, and commit adultery with the wives of their neighbors, and falsely speak a word in My Name that I have not commanded them, and I [am] He who knows and a witness—a declaration of YHWH.
24 Nu sel Shemaiah, mwet Nehelam, kom fah fahk,
And you speak to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,
25 “Ouinge LEUM GOD Kulana, God lun Israel, El fahk: Kom tuh supwala leta se inem sifacna nu sin mwet nukewa su muta Jerusalem, ac nu sel Zephaniah, mwet tol wen natul Maaseiah, ac nu sin mwet tol nukewa, ac fahk,
Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel, saying, Because that you have sent letters in your name to all the people who [are] in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,
26 ‘LEUM GOD El oru kom in sie mwet tol in aolul Jehoiada, ac inge kom pa kol mwet karingin Tempul uh. Ma kunom in liye lah kutena mwet wel ma oru mu el sie mwet palu, in fah kapiri el in sein, wi sie kala osra rauneak inkwawal.
YHWH has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest, for there being inspectors of the house of YHWH over every man [who] is mad and making himself a prophet, and you have put him in the stocks and in the pillory.
27 Efu ku kom tia oru ouinge nu sel Jeremiah mwet Anathoth, su kaskas oana sie mwet palu nu sin mwet uh?
And now, why have you not pushed against Jeremiah of Anathoth, who is making himself a prophet to you?
28 Enenu in tulokinyuki el mweyen el fahk nu sin mwet ma muta Babylonia mu elos ac fah mwet sruoh ke pacl na loeloes, ac elos in musa lohm, oakwuki we, yukwiya ima lalos, ac kang fahko kac’”
Because that he has sent to us [in] Babylon, saying, It [is] long, build houses and abide; and plant gardens and eat their fruit.”
29 Zephaniah el riti leta sac nu sik,
And Zephaniah the priest reads this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the prophet.
30 na LEUM GOD El fahk nu sik
And there is a word of YHWH to Jeremiah, saying,
31 in sapwala kas inge nu sin mwet sruoh nukewa, ac fahk: “Pa inge ma LEUM GOD El fahk kacl Shemaiah mwet Nehelam: Mweyen Shemaiah el fahk kas in palu nu suwos ke nga tia supwal, ac oru kowos lulalfongi kas kikiap lal,
“Send to all the expulsion, saying, Thus said YHWH concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: Because that Shemaiah prophesied to you, and I have not sent him, and he causes you to trust on falsehood,
32 nga fah kael Shemaiah ac fwilin tulik natul. Wangin sie mwet lal ac fah moul in liye ma wo ma nga ac oru nu sin mwet luk, mweyen el tuh sapkin mwet uh in lainyu. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.”
therefore, thus said YHWH: Behold, I am seeing after Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and after his seed, he has none dwelling in the midst of this people, nor does he look on the good that I am doing to My people,” a declaration of YHWH, “for he has spoken apostasy against YHWH.”
