1 Amunte omane vahe'ma mani'neno, maka zampima mani fatgoma hu'zamo'a, neginagi vahe'mo'ma akrehe krehe ageru'ma ruzana agatere'ne.
Conducting our lives as we should [even though] we are poor is better than being foolish and telling lies.
2 Mago vahe'mo'ma keno antahino'ma osu'nesia zama hunaku'ma haniana, knarera osugahie. Iza'o ame'ama huno mago'zama hunaku'ma hanimo'a, ana zana eri haviza hugahie.
Being enthusiastic but not thinking carefully [about what we are about to do] is not good; doing things hastily can cause us a lot of trouble [IDM].
3 Mago'a vahe'mokizmi zamagri'a neginagi zamavu'zmava zamo zamazeri haviza nehige'za, Ra Anumzamofona zamarimpa ahenentaze.
Some people are ruined as a result of their [own] foolish actions, and when that happens, they [SYN] angrily say that it is Yahweh’s fault.
4 Amunte'ma me'nea ne'mofona, rama'a knampa'a manigahaze. Hagi fenoma'a omane ne'mofona knampa'amo'za netraze.
Those who are rich easily find people who want to be their friends, but when [people become] poor, their friends [often] desert them.
5 Keagare'ma omati'nesia vahe'ma havigema huno huama'ma hunteno azama hanimo'a, knazana erigahie. Hagi havi kema hanimo'a, mizama'a erigahie.
Those who tell lies in court will surely be punished [LIT]; they will not escape it.
6 Rama'a vahe'mo'za zamazama hania vahe arone manizanku zamave'nesie. Hagi maka vahe'mo'za muse zama nezami'za vahe'mofo rone nemanize.
Many [people] try to persuade important people to do favors for them; everyone [wants to] be a friend of those who give gifts.
7 Kagrima kamunte'ma omanesige'za, kafuhe'za kavesi ogantegahaze. Hagi knampa ka'amo'za mago'ane agatere'za zamavesra hugantegahaze. Kazama hanazegu'ma hakesanana, zamagra omanigahaze.
[Even] the relatives of someone who becomes poor hate him, and his friends certainly stay away from him, too; [even] if he tries to talk with them, they will not be his friends [again].
8 Kagrama knare antahi'zama erisunka, kagraka'agu avesinentane. Kagrama ama' antahi'zama azeri hampo'nama hanunka, knare hunka manigahane.
Those who become wise [IDM] are doing a favor for themselves; those who get good sense will prosper.
9 Keagafima otisia vahe'ma havigema huno huama huntesia vahe'mo'a knaza erigahie. Hagi havigema hanaza vahe'mo'za frigahaze.
Those who tell lies in court will certainly be punished [LIT]; they will be ruined.
10 Neginagi vahe'mo'za marerisa zampina manigara osu'naze. Kazokzo eri'za vahe'mo'ma kva vahe manino, kva (princes) vahe'ma kegava huntezamo'a, knarera osutfaza hu'ne.
It is not appropriate for foolish people to live (luxuriously/like rich people), and it is even less appropriate for slaves to rule important officials.
11 Knare antahi'zama eri'nesia ne'mo'a, ame huno arimpa ohegosie. Hagi havizama huntesia zanku'ma agesama ontahisiana, husga huntegahaze.
Those who have good sense do not quickly become angry; people respect those who ignore offensive [things that people say to them].
12 Kini vahe'mofo rimpa he'zamo'a, laionimo rankrafa hiankna nehie. Hianagi vahe'ma zamavesinteno zamazama hu avu'ava zamo'a, trazante ata ko arunteankna nehie.
When a king is angry, [that causes people to be afraid of him], like the roar of a lion [causes people to be afraid] [SIM], but if he acts kindly toward people, [they like it just] like [they like] dew on the grass [in the morning].
13 Mago ne'mofavremo'ma neginagi avu'avazama hiana, nefana tusi'a hazenke erinemie. Hagi mago ne'mofo a'mo'ma kefra nehuno, ke huvava hania a'mo'a, nomofo anuntupinti ko'arigeno varivri hiankna hugahie.
Foolish children [can] cause disasters to happen to their parents. A wife who constantly (nags/quarrels with) [her husband is as annoying as] water that continually drips [MET].
14 Negrera negafampinti none fenozanena erisanti haregahane. Hianagi Ra Anumzamoke, ama' antahi'zane a'ra kamigahie.
We [can] inherit a house or money from our parents [when they die], but only Yahweh [can] give someone a sensible wife.
15 Feru vahe'moka kavu mase vava hugahane. Hagi eri'za e'ori vahe'moka ne'zanku frigahane.
Those who are lazy sleep soundly, but if they are lazy, they will be hungry [because of not earning money to buy food].
16 Iza'o kasegema amage'antesimo'a knare huno manigahie. Hagi iza'o Ra Anumzamofo avu'ava'ma amefi'ma humisimo'a, frigahie.
Those who obey [God’s] commandments will remain alive [for a long time]; those who despise/disobey them (OR, those who do not control their own conduct) will die [while they are still young].
17 Iza'o amunte omane vahe'ma knare avu'ava'ma hunentemo'a, Ra Anumzamofo anara hunente. Hagi agrama hania avu'avamofo avamente, mizana amigahie.
When we give things to poor [people], [it is as though] we are lending to Yahweh, and he will (pay us back/reward us for what we did).
18 Mofavre kamofona azeri fatgoma hugama hu'nesire, avumarora antenka azeri fatgo huo. Hagi azeri fatgoma osnanana, frinogu kave'nesie.
Discipline your children while [they are young], while you still hope that [they will learn to behave as they should]; [if you do not discipline them], you are helping them to destroy [themselves].
19 Hantaka huno'ma arimpa ahe vahe'mo'a, hazenke'a erigahie. Na'ankure kagrama aza hunka eri amane hanankeno'a, henka ana ne'mo'a anazana nehinkenka aza huvava hugahane.
Those who (do not control their temper/quickly become very angry) will have to endure what happens as a result; [but] if we rescue them [from those troubles once], we will have to continue rescuing them.
20 Kavumro antesia kema nentahinka, kazeri fatgoma hania kema avaririsunka, mani so'e hunka vugahane.
Pay attention when [people give you good] advice and learn from them, in order that you will become wise for the rest of your life.
21 Vahe'mo'a rama'a zanku antahi'zana eri retro huno hugahue hugahianagi, Ra Anumzamo'ma antahino fore hugahie hu'nesia zamoke fore hugahie.
People plan to do many [kinds of things], but what will happen is what Yahweh has decided will happen.
22 Ra zama me'neana huvempama hunte'nesia kere, amage'ma anteno mani'zane. Hagi amunte omane vahe'ma mani'zamo'a, havige vahera agatere'ne.
People want others to be loyal to them; it is better to be poor than to tell a lie [to a judge in court in order to get money].
23 Ra Anumzamofonku'ma koro'ma hunteno agorga'ama mani'zamo'a, kavreno knare mani'zante vugahie. Hagi iza'o e'inahu'ma hanimo'a, mago'zankura korera osuno knare huno manigahie.
[Those who have] an awesome respect for Yahweh will live [a long life]; they rest peacefully and are not harmed [during the night].
24 Eri'za e'ori feru vahe'mo'a, ne'za nenaku tafepi azana antesigeno vugahianagi, ana ne'zana agipina erinteno onegahie.
Some people are extremely lazy; they put their hand in a dish [to take some food] but do not even lift the food up to their mouths.
25 Vahe'ma huhaviza nehania vahe'ma azerinka sefu'ma amisankeno'a, knare antahi'zama omane vahe'mo'za nege'za, knare avu'avara amage antegahaze. Hianagi knare antahi'zama me'nea vahe'ma azeri fatgo hanankeno'a, mago'ane antahi'zana erigahie.
If you punish someone who makes fun of those who are wise, those who (are naive/need to be instructed) will learn to do what is smart; if you rebuke those who are wise, they will [listen to what you say and] become wiser.
26 Mago mofavremo'ma nefa'ma neheno, nererama nompinti'ma ahenati atresia mofavremo'a, tusi'a agazeza erino naga'afina eme antegahie.
Anyone who mistreats/abuses his father or forces his mother to leave the home is a child who is acting shamefully and disgracefully.
27 Kavumro'ma antesianke'ma ontahi'sanana, e'i knare antahi'zamofo kana atrenka havifi vugahane.
My son, if you stop learning things, you will [soon] forget what [you already] know.
28 Havige hu vahe'mo'ma havigema huno keagafima omati'nea vahe'ma huama'ma hunte'zamo'a, keagama antahi trara kiza zokago zankna nehuno, havi avu'ava zana ne'za nazankna nehaze.
Worthless witnesses [in court] make fun of [judges who try to] make fair decisions, and wicked people [enjoy] doing evil [like] they enjoy eating [good food] [MET].
29 Vahe'ma huhavizama hunezmantaza vahe'mokizmi'a, mizazmia ko tro huzmantegeno me'neanki'za erigahaze. Nehanage'za neginagima hanaza vahera, kanonkeve zamigahaze.
[God] is ready to punish those who make fun [of him/religion]; those who do foolish things deserve to be flogged/whipped.
