1 Ita, nagkari dagiti lallaki ti Israel idiay Mizpa, “Awan kadatayo ti mangipaasawa iti anakna a babai iti Benjaminita.”
Now the men of Israel had taken an oath in Mizpah, saying, Not one of us will give his daughter as a wife to Benjamin.
2 Kalpasanna, napan dagiti tattao idiay Betel ket nagtugawda sadiay iti sangoanan ti Dios agingga iti rabii, ken nasaem a nagladingitda iti napigsa.
And the people came to Beth-el, waiting there till evening before God, and gave themselves up to bitter weeping.
3 Kinunada, “O Yahweh a Dios ti Israel, apay a napasamak daytoy iti Israel, a maysa kadagiti tribumi ti awan tatta nga aldaw?”
And they said, O Lord, the God of Israel, why has this fate come on Israel, that today one tribe has been cut off from Israel?
4 Iti sumaruno nga aldaw, nasapa a bimmangon dagiti tattao ket nangipatakderda iti altar sadiay ken nangidatonda kadagiti daton a mapuoran ken kadagiti daton a pakikappia.
Then on the day after, the people got up early and made an altar there, offering burned offerings and peace-offerings.
5 Kinuna dagiti tattao ti Israel, “Siasino kadagiti amin a tribu ti Israel ti saan nga immay iti taripnong ni Yahweh?” Ta nangaramidda iti napateg a kari maipanggep iti siasinoman a saan a simmang-at kenni Yahweh idiay Mizpa. Kinunada, “Awan duadua a mapapatay isuna.”
And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel, who did not come up to the Lord at the meeting of all Israel? For they had taken a great oath that whoever did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord was to be put to death.
6 Naasian dagiti tattao ti Israel kadagiti kakabsatda a Benjaminita. Kinunada, “Ita nga aldaw, maysa a tribu ti naisina iti Israel.
And the children of Israel were moved with pity for Benjamin their brother, saying, Today one tribe has been cut off from Israel.
7 Siasino ti mangipaay kadagiti asawaen dagidiay a nabati, agsipudta nagkaritayo kenni Yahweh a saantayo a palubosan ti siasinoman kadakuada a mangasawa kadagiti annaktayo a babbai?”
What are we to do about wives for those who are still living? For we have taken an oath by the Lord that we will not give them our daughters for wives.
8 Kinunada, “Siasino kadagiti tribu ti Israel ti saan a simmang-at kenni Yahweh idiay Mizpa?” Naduktalan nga awan ti immay iti panagtitipon manipud idiay Jabes Galaad.
And they said, Which one of the tribes of Israel did not come up to Mizpah to the Lord? And it was seen that no one had come from Jabesh-gilead to the meeting.
9 Ta idi naurnos dagiti tattao iti nasayaat, adtoy, awan kadagiti agnanaed idiay Jabes Galaad ti adda sadiay.
For when the people were numbered, not one man of the people of Jabesh-gilead was present.
10 Nangibaon ti taripnong iti 12, 000 a katuturedan a lallaki a nabilin a mapanda idiay Jabes Galaad ket rautenda ida ken papatayenda ida, uray dagiti babbai ken ubbing.
So they (the meeting) sent twelve thousand of the best fighting-men, and gave them orders, saying, Go and put the people of Jabesh-gilead to the sword without mercy, with their women and their little ones.
11 “Aramidenyo daytoy: masapul a papatayenyo ti tunggal lalaki ken tunggal babai a nakikaidda iti lalaki.”
And this is what you are to do: every male, and every woman who has had sex relations with a man, you are to put to the curse, but you are to keep safe the virgins. And they did so.
12 Nakasarak dagiti lallaki iti 400 a babbalasang kadagiti agnanaed idiay Jabes Galaad a saan pulos a nakikaidda iti lalaki, ket impanda ida iti kampo idiay Silo, idiay Canaan.
Now there were among the people of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins who had never had sex relations with a man; these they took to their tents in Shiloh in the land of Canaan.
13 Nangipatulod iti mensahe ti entero a taripnong ket imbagada kadagiti tattao ti Benjamin nga adda idiay bato ti Rimmon a makikapkappiada kadakuada.
And all the meeting sent to the men of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, offering them peace.
14 Isu a nagsubli dagiti Benjaminita iti dayta a tiempo ket naited kadakuada dagiti babbai idiay Jabes Galaad. Ngem awan ti umdas a babbai a para kadakuada amin.
Then Benjamin came back; and they gave them the women whom they had kept from death among the women of Jabesh-gilead: but still there were not enough for them.
15 Nagbabawi dagiti tattao gapu iti napasamak iti Benjamin, gapu ta nangaramid ni Yahweh iti pannakabingay iti nagbabaetan dagiti tribu ti Israel.
And the people were moved with pity for Benjamin, because the Lord had let his wrath loose on the tribes of Israel.
16 Ket kinuna dagiti mangidadaulo iti entero a taripnong, “Kasanotayo nga ibirukan dagiti nabati a Benjaminita kadagiti babbai nga asawaenda, agsipud ta napapatayen dagiti babbai ti Benjamin?”
Then the responsible men of the meeting said, What are we to do about wives for the rest of them, seeing that the women of Benjamin are dead?
17 Kinunada, “Masapul nga adda ti tawid para kadagiti nakalasat iti Benjamin, tapno saan a madadael ti maysa a tribu iti Israel.
And they said, How is the rest of Benjamin to be given offspring so that one tribe of Israel may not be put out of existence,
18 Saantayo a mabalin nga ikkan ida kadagiti asawaenda manipud kadagiti annaktayo a babbai. Ta nagkari dagiti tattao ti Israel, 'Mailunod koma ti siasinoman a mangted iti babai nga asawaen ti Benjamin.’”
Seeing that we may not give them our daughters as wives? For the children of Israel had taken an oath, saying, Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.
19 Isu a kinunada, “Ammoyo nga adda iti tinawen a fiesta para kenni Yahweh idiay Silo (nga adda iti amianan ti Betel, dayaen ti kalsada a sumang-at idiay Sikem manipud idiay Betel, ken abagatan ti Lebona).”
And they said, See, every year there is a feast of the Lord in Shiloh, which is to the north of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway which goes up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.
20 Binilinda dagiti lallaki ti Benjamin a kinunada, “Mapankayo aglemmeng iti nalimed ket aguraykayo kadagiti kaubasan.
And they said to the men of Benjamin, Go into the vine-gardens, waiting there secretly,
21 Siputanyo ti oras a rummuar dagiti agsala a babbai manipud Silo, ket dardarasenyo a rummuar kadagiti kaubasan ket masapul a mangiguyod ti tunggal maysa kadakayo iti asawaenna manipud kadagiti babbai ti Silo, kalpasanna, agsublikayo iti daga ti Benjamin.
And watching; and if the daughters of Shiloh come out to take part in the dances, then come from the vine-gardens and take a wife for every one of you from among the daughters of Shiloh, and go back to the land of Benjamin.
22 Inton umay dagiti amma wenno kakabsatda a lallaki tapno agririda kadakami, ibagaminto kadakuada, “Maasikayo kadakami! Pagtalinaedenyo ida gapu ta saankami a nakaala kadagiti babbai a maasawa bayat ti gubat. Ket awan basolyo maipapan iti kari, gapu ta saanyo nga inted kadakuada dagiti annakyo.”'
And when their fathers or their brothers come and make trouble, you are to say to them, Give them to us as an act of grace; for we did not take them as wives for ourselves in war; and if you yourselves had given them to us you would have been responsible for the broken oath.
23 Kasta ti inaramid dagiti tattao ti Benjamin, nangalada kadagiti asawaenda segun iti bilang a kasapulanda manipud kadagiti babbai nga agsasala, ket innalada ida tapno agbalin nga assawada. Napanda ket nagsublida iti lugar a tawidda; binangonda manen dagiti ili ket nagnaedda kadagitoy.
So the men of Benjamin did this, and got wives for themselves for every one of their number, taking them away by force from the dance; then they went back to their heritage, building up their towns and living in them.
24 Ket pinanawan dagiti tattao ti Israel dayta a lugar ket nagawidda, tunggal maysa iti bukodna a tribu ken puli, ken tunggal maysa iti bukodna a tawid.
Then the children of Israel went away from there, every man to his tribe and his family, every man went back to his heritage.
25 Kadagidiay nga aldaw, awan ti ari ti Israel. Inaramid ti tunggal maysa ti nasayaat kadagiti bukodna a panagkita.
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did what seemed right to him.
