< Daniel 1 >
1 Iti maikatlo a tawen ti panagturay ni Jehoyakim nga ari ti Juda, immay ni Nebucadnesar nga ari ti Babilonia iti Jerusalem ket linakubna ti siudad tapno pasardengen dagiti abasto iti daytoy.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 Pinagballigi ti Dios ni Nebucadnesar maibusor kenni Jehoyakim nga ari ti Juda, ket intedna kenkuana dagiti dadduma a nasagradoan a banbanag manipud iti balay ti Dios. Impanna dagitoy iti daga ti Babilonia, iti balay ti diosna, ket inkabilna dagiti nasagradoan a banbanag iti pagikabkabilan iti gameng ti diosna.
And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
3 Binilin ti ari ni Aspenaz a kangatoan nga opisialna nga iyunegna dagiti sumagmamano a tattao ti Israel, ti pamilia ti ari ken dagiti mararaem—
And the king spoke to Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel, and of the king’s seed, and of the princes;
4 dagiti agtutubo a lallaki nga awan pakapilawanna, nataraki ti langana, napnoan iti kinasirib, napnoan iti pannakaammo ken pannakaawat, ken mabalin nga agserbi iti palasio ti ari. Isurona kadakuada dagiti sursuro ken pagsasao dagiti taga-Babilonia.
Children in whom was no blemish, but of good appearance, and skilful in all wisdom, and possessing knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king’s palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the language of the Chaldeans.
5 Inraman ida ti ari iti inaldaw a paset ti taraonna ken ti arak nga in-inumenna. Tallo a tawen a masanay dagitoy nga agtutubo a lallaki, kalpasan dayta, agserbida iti ari.
And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king’s food, and of the wine which he drank: so nourishing them three years, that at the end of which they might stand before the king.
6 Karaman kadagitoy ket da Daniel, Hananias, Misael kenni Asarias ken dagiti dadduma a tattao ti Juda.
Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
7 Pinanaganan ida ti kangatoan nga opisial: Pinanagananna ni Daniel iti Beltesazar, ni Hananias iti Sedrac, ni Misael iti Mesac, ken ni Asarias iti Abednego.
To whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave to Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.
8 Ngem inkeddeng ni Daniel a saanna a tulawan ti bagina babaen iti taraon ti ari wenno babaen iti arak nga in-inumenna. Isu a dimmawat isuna iti pammalubos iti kangatoan nga ofisial a saanna a tulawan ti bagina.
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s food, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
9 Ita, naasian ken pinaboran ti Dios ni Daniel babaen iti panagraem kenkuana ti kangatoan nga opisial.
Now God had brought Daniel into favour and compassion with the prince of the eunuchs.
10 Kinuna ti kangatoan nga opisial kenni Daniel, “Mabutengak iti apok nga ari. Imbilinna no ania a taraon ken mainom ti maited kenka. Kasano ngay no makitana a saan a nasayaat ti langam ngem kadagiti dadduma nga agtutubo a lallaki a kapatadam? Amangan no patayennak ti ari gapu kenka.”
And the prince of the eunuchs said to Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your food and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse looking than the children who are of your age? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
11 Ket nakisao ni Daniel iti dinutokan ti kangatoan nga opisial a mangaywan kada Daniel, Hananias, Misael ken Azarias.
Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Kinunana, “Pangaasim ta subokennakami nga adipenmo iti sangapulo nga aldaw. Ikkannakami laeng kadagiti nateng a kanenmi ken danum nga inumenmi.
Test thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink.
13 Kalpasanna, idiligmo ti langami iti langa dagiti agtutubo a lallaki a mangan iti taraon ti ari, ket tratoennakami nga adipenmo a maibasar iti makitam.”
Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s food: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
14 Isu nga immannugot ti mangay-aywan nga aramiden daytoy, ket pinaliiwna ida iti sangapulo nga aldaw.
So he consented to them in this matter, and tried them ten days.
15 Kalpasan ti sangapulo nga aldaw, nasalsalun-at ti langada, ken naluklukmegda ngem dagiti dadduma a lallaki a nangan kadagiti taraon ti ari.
And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children who ate the portion of the king’s food.
16 Isu nga inikkat ti mangay-aywan dagiti taraon ken arakda ket inikkanna laeng ida kadagiti nateng.
Thus Melzar took away the portion of their food, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them vegetables.
17 Inikkan ti Dios dagitoy uppat nga agtutubo a lallaki iti pannakaammo ken saririt iti amin a sursuro ken kinasirib, ken maawatan ni Daniel dagiti amin a kita dagiti sirmata ken dagiti tagtagainep.
As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
18 Kalpasan ti tiempo nga intuding ti ari a pannakaipanda, impan ida ti kangatoan nga opisial iti sangoanan ni Nebucadnesar.
Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Nakisarita ti ari kadakuada, ken iti entero a bunggoy, awan a pulos ti maidilig kada Daniel, Hananias, Misael, ken Azarias. Nagtakderda iti sangoanan ti ari, a nakasagana nga agserbi kenkuana.
And the king talked with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore they stood before the king.
20 Iti tunggal saludsod ti kinasirib ken pannakaawat a saludsoden ti ari kadakuada, natakuatanna a maminsangapulo a daras a nalalaingda ngem dagiti amin a salamangkero ken dagiti mangibagbaga a makasaritada dagiti natay, nga adda iti entero a pagarianna.
And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
21 Adda sadiay ni Daniel agingga iti umuna a tawen ti panagturay ni Ari Cyrus.
And Daniel continued even to the first year of king Cyrus.
