1 Nʼoge a Herọd eze na-achị Galili nụrụ ihe banyere Jisọs.
At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,
2 Ọ gwara ndị na-ejere ya ozi okwu sị ha, “Onye a bụkwanụ Jọn omee baptizim. O sitela na ndị nwụrụ anwụ bilie dịkwa ndụ ọzọ. Ọ bụ ya mere ike ịrụ ọrụ ebube ndị a ji dị nʼime ya.”
and said to his servants, "This is John the Baptist. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him."
3 Nʼihi na, Herọd jidere Jọn kee ya agbụ tinye ya nʼụlọ mkpọrọ, nʼihi Herodịas nwunye Filip nwanne ya nwoke.
For Herod had arrested John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

For John said to him, "It is not lawful for you to have her."
5 Herọd chọrọrị igbu ya, ma ọ tụrụ egwu ndị mmadụ, nʼihi na ha weere Jọn dị ka onye amụma.
And though he wanted to kill him, he feared the crowd because they regarded him as a prophet.
6 Ma mgbe a na-eme mmemme icheta ọmụmụ Herọd, ada Herodịas tere egwu nʼihu Herọd, na nʼihu ndị ọbịa bịara nʼụbọchị ahụ. Obi tọrọ Herọd ụtọ nke ukwuu.
But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.
7 Nke a mere o ji ṅụọ iyi kwee nkwa inye ya ihe ọbụla ọ rịọrọ.
Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.
8 Ma dị ka nne ya si haziere ya, ọ rịọrọ eze Herọd sị, “Nye m isi Jọn omee baptizim nʼefere ugbu a.”
And she, being prompted by her mother, said, "Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist."

And the king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths, and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,

and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.
11 E tinyere isi ya nʼefere bunye nwaagbọghọ ahụ. Ọ naara ya bulaara nne ya.
And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the young woman: and she brought it to her mother.
12 Ndị na-eso ụzọ ya bịara buru ozu ya gaa lie. Ha gara kọọrọ Jisọs ihe mere.
Then his disciples came, and took the dead body, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.
13 Mgbe Jisọs nụrụ akụkọ a, ọ banyere nʼụgbọ mmiri gaa nʼọzara, ebe ọ ga-anọdụrụ onwe ya. Ma mgbe igwe mmadụ nụrụ ya, ha si obodo dị iche iche sooro ya nʼukwu ala.
Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat, to a secluded place to be alone. When the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.

And he went out, and he saw a large crowd, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.

Now when evening had come, the disciples came to him, saying, "This place is desolate, and the hour is already late. Send the crowds away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food."

But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
17 Ha zara ya sị, “Ọ bụ naanị ogbe achịcha ise na azụ abụọ ka anyị nwere.”
And they told him, "We only have here five loaves and two fish."
18 Ọ sịrị ha, “Wetaranụ m ha nʼebe a.”
So he said, "Bring them here to me."
19 Ọ gwara igwe mmadụ ahụ ka ha nọdụ ala nʼahịhịa. O weere ogbe achịcha ise na azụ abụọ ahụ welie anya ya elu nye Chineke ekele. Ọ nyawara achịcha ahụ, nye ha ndị na-eso ụzọ ya, ndị na-eso ụzọ ya nyere ha igwe mmadụ ahụ.
Then he commanded the crowds to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples gave to the crowds.
20 Onye ọbụla riri rijuo afọ. Emesịa, ndị na-eso ụzọ Jisọs tụtụkọtara iberibe achịcha dara nʼala tụtụjuo ha nkata iri na abụọ.
And they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.

Now those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
22 Mgbe nke a gasịrị, ọ gwara ndị na-eso ụzọ ya ka ha banye nʼụgbọ malite ịgafe ofe ọzọ nke osimiri ahụ. Ma ya onwe ya nọdụrụ maka izilaga ndị mmadụ ahụ.
And immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and to go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the crowds away.
23 Mgbe ọ zilagasịrị igwe mmadụ ahụ, ọ rigooro nʼelu ugwu ikpe ekpere, naanị ya. Mgbe oge anyasị ruru, naanị ya nọkwa na-ebe ahụ.
And after he had sent the crowds away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.
24 Ma nʼoge a ụgbọ mmiri ahụ esitela nʼebe ala dị nso gamie nʼelu osimiri, ebili mmiri na-ebugharịkwa ya, nʼihi na ifufe ahụ na-emegide ya.
But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, battered by the waves, for the wind was against it.
25 Ma ihe dị ka site nʼelekere atọ ruo elekere isii nke ụtụtụ, Jisọs bịakwutere ha, na-aga ije nʼelu osimiri.
And in the watch between three and six in the morning, he came to them, walking on the sea.

And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, "It's a ghost." and they screamed with fear.
27 Ma ngwangwa Jisọs sịrị ha, “Nweenụ obi ike! O bụ m; unu atụla egwu.”
But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Cheer up. It is I. Do not be afraid."
28 Pita zara ya, “Onyenwe anyị, ọ bụrụ na ọ bụ gị, sị m bịakwute gị nʼelu mmiri.”
Peter answered him and said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters."
29 Ọ sịrị ya, “Bịa!” Pita sitere nʼụgbọ ahụ pụta, bido ịga ije nʼelu mmiri ijekwuru Jisọs.
He said, "Come." Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the water and went toward Jesus.
30 Ma mgbe ọ hụrụ oke ebili mmiri ahụ ka ọ na-amagharị; egwu tụrụ ya. Ma mgbe ọ malitere imikpu nʼime mmiri ahụ, o tiri mkpu sị, “Onyenwe m! Zọpụta m!”
But when he saw the strong wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he yelled, saying, "Lord, save me."
31 Na-atụfughị oge, Jisọs setịpụrụ aka ya dọpụta Pita. Ọ sịrị ya, “Gị onye okwukwe nta, nʼihi gịnị ka i ji nwee obi abụọ!”
Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"
32 Ma mgbe ha rịbanyere nʼime ụgbọ ahụ ifufe ahụ kwụsịkwara.
When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.
33 Ndị ahụ nọ nʼụgbọ ahụ kpọrọ isiala nye ya sị, “Nʼezie, ị bụ Ọkpara Chineke.”
Those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God."
34 Mgbe ha gafere nʼofe nke ọzọ, ha bịarutere nʼala Genesaret.
When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
35 Mgbe ndị obodo ahụ matara na ọ bụ ya, ha zisara ozi gburugburu obodo niile ahụ, ma dutere ya ndị niile ahụ na-adịghị ike.
When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region, and brought to him all who were sick,
36 Ha rịọrọ ya ka o kwenye ka ha metụ ọ bụladị ọnụ uwe ya aka. Ndị niile metụrụ ya aka ka a gwọrọ.
and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. And all who touched it were healed.
