अय्यूब 31

1 “अपने नेत्रों से मैंने एक प्रतिज्ञा की है कि मैं किसी कुमारी कन्या की ओर कामुकतापूर्ण दृष्टि से नहीं देखूंगा.

I Made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

2 स्वर्ग से परमेश्वर द्वारा क्या-क्या प्रदान किया जाता है अथवा स्वर्ग से सर्वशक्तिमान से कौन सी मीरास प्राप्‍त होती है?

For what portion of God [is there] from above? and [what] inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

3 क्या अन्यायी के लिए विध्वंस तथा दुष्ट लोगों के लिए सर्वनाश नहीं?

[Is] not destruction to the wicked? and a strange [punishment] to the workers of iniquity?

4 क्या परमेश्वर के सामने मेरी जीवनशैली तथा मेरे पैरों की संख्या स्पष्ट नहीं होती?

Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

5 “यदि मैंने झूठ का आचरण किया है, यदि मेरे पैर छल की दिशा में द्रुत गति से बढ़ते,

If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

6 तब स्वयं परमेश्वर सच्चे तराजू पर मुझे माप लें तथा परमेश्वर ही मेरी निर्दोषिता को मालूम कर लें.

Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know my integrity.

7 यदि उनके पथ से मेरे पांव कभी भटके हों, अथवा मेरे हृदय ने मेरी स्वयं की दृष्टि का अनुगमन किया हो, अथवा कहीं भी मेरे हाथ कलंकित हुए हों.

If my step hath turned out of the way, and my heart walked after my eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to my hands;

8 तो मेरे द्वारा रोपित उपज अन्य का आहार हो जाए तथा मेरी उपज उखाड़ डाली जाए.

[Then] let me sow, and let another eat; yes, let my offspring be rooted out.

9 “यदि मेरा हृदय किसी पराई स्त्री द्वारा लुभाया गया हो, अथवा मैं अपने पड़ोसी के द्वार पर घात लगाए बैठा हूं,

If my heart hath been deceived by a woman, or [if] I have laid wait at my neighbor's door;

10 तो मेरी पत्नी अन्य के लिए कठोर श्रम के लिए लगा दी जाए, तथा अन्य पुरुष उसके साथ सोयें,

[Then] let my wife grind to another, and let others bow down upon her.

11 क्योंकि कामुकता घृण्य है, और एक दंडनीय पाप.

For this [is] a hainous crime; yea, it [is] an iniquity [to be punished by] the judges.

12 यह वह आग होगी, जो विनाश के लिए प्रज्वलित होती है, तथा जो मेरी समस्त समृद्धि को नाश कर देगी.

For it [is] a fire [that] consumeth to destruction, and would root out all my increase.

13 “यदि मैंने अपने दास-दासियों के आग्रह को बेकार समझा है तथा उनमें मेरे प्रति असंतोष का भाव उत्पन्‍न हुआ हो,

If I despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me;

14 तब उस समय मैं क्या कर सकूंगा, जब परमेश्वर सक्रिय हो जाएंगे? जब वह मुझसे पूछताछ करेंगे, मैं उन्हें क्या उत्तर दूंगा?

What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

15 क्या उन्हीं परमेश्वर ने, जिन्होंने गर्भ में मेरी रचना की है? उनकी भी रचना नहीं की है तथा क्या हम सब की रचना एक ही स्वरूप में नहीं की गई?

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

16 “यदि मैंने दीनों को उनकी अभिलाषा से कभी वंचित रखा हो, अथवा मैं किसी विधवा के निराश होने का कारण हुआ हूं,

If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

17 अथवा मैंने छिप-छिप कर भोजन किया हो, तथा किसी पितृहीन को भोजन से वंचित रखा हो.

Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it;

18 मैंने तो पिता तुल्य उनका पालन पोषण किया है, बाल्यकाल से ही मैंने उसका मार्गदर्शन किया है.

(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as [with] a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb; )

19 यदि मैंने अपर्याप्‍त वस्त्रों के कारण किसी का नाश होने दिया है, अथवा कोई दरिद्र वस्त्रहीन रह गया हो.

If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

20 ऐसों को तो मैं ऊनी वस्त्र प्रदान करता रहा हूं, जो मेरी भेडों के ऊन से बनाए गए थे.

If his loins have not blessed me, and [if] he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

21 यदि मैंने किसी पितृहीन पर प्रहार किया हो, क्योंकि नगर चौक में कुछ लोग मेरे पक्ष में हो गए थे,

If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

22 तब मेरी बांह कंधे से उखड़ कर गिर जाए तथा मेरी बांह कंधे से टूट जाए.

[Then] let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

23 क्योंकि परमेश्वर की ओर से आई विपत्ति मेरे लिए भयावह है. उनके प्रताप के कारण मेरा कुछ भी कर पाना असंभव है.

For destruction [from] God [was] a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

24 “यदि मेरा भरोसा मेरी धनाढ्यता पर हो तथा सोने को मैंने, ‘अपनी सुरक्षा घोषित किया हो,’

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;

25 यदि मैंने अपनी महान संपत्ति का अहंकार किया हो, तथा इसलिये कि मैंने अपने श्रम से यह उपलब्ध किया है.

If I have rejoiced because my wealth [was] great, and because my hand had gained much;

26 यदि मैंने चमकते सूरज को निहारा होता, अथवा उस चंद्रमा को, जो अपने वैभव में अपनी यात्रा पूर्ण करता है,

If I have beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking [in] brightness;

27 तथा यह देख मेरा हृदय मेरे अंतर में इन पर मोहित हो गया होता, तथा मेरे हाथ ने इन पर एक चुंबन कर दिया होता,

And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

28 यह भी पाप ही हुआ होता, जिसका दंडित किया जाना अनिवार्य हो जाता, क्योंकि यह तो परमेश्वर को उनके अधिकार से वंचित करना हो जाता.

This also [were] an iniquity [to be punished by] the judge: for I should have denied the God [that is] above.

29 “क्या मैं कभी अपने शत्रु के दुर्भाग्य में आनंदित हुआ हूं अथवा उस स्थिति पर आनन्दमग्न हुआ हूं, जब उस पर मुसीबत टूट पड़ी?

If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or have lifted up myself when evil found him:

30 नहीं! मैंने कभी भी शाप देते हुए अपने शत्रु की मृत्यु की याचना करने का पाप अपने मुख को नहीं करने दिया.

Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

31 क्या मेरे घर के व्यक्तियों की साक्ष्य यह नहीं है, ‘उसके घर के भोजन से मुझे संतोष नहीं हुआ?’

If the men of my tabernacle have not said, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

32 मैंने किसी भी विदेशी प्रवासी को अपने घर के अतिरिक्त अन्यत्र ठहरने नहीं दिया, क्योंकि मेरे घर के द्वार प्रवासियों के लिए सदैव खुले रहते हैं.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: [but] I opened my doors to the traveler.

33 क्या, मैंने अन्य लोगों के समान अपने अंदर में अपने पाप को छुपा रखा है; अपने अधर्म को ढांप रखा है?

If I have covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding my iniquity in my bosom:

34 क्या, मुझे जनमत का भय रहा है? क्या, परिजनों की घृणा मुझे डरा रही है? क्या, मैं इसलिये चुप रहकर अपने घर से बाहर न जाता था?

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, [and] went not out of the door?

35 (“उत्तम होती वह स्थिति, जिसमें कोई तो मेरा पक्ष सुनने के लिए तत्पर होता! देख लो ये हैं मेरे हस्ताक्षर सर्वशक्तिमान ही इसका उत्तर दें; मेरे शत्रु ने मुझ पर यह लिखित शिकायत की है.

Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire [is], [that] the Almighty would answer me, and [that] my adversary had written a book.

36 इसका धारण मुझे कांधों पर करना होगा, यह आरोप मेरे अपने सिर पर मुकुट के समान धारण करना होगा.

Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, [and] bind it [as] a crown to me.

37 मैं तो परमेश्वर के सामने अपने द्वारा उठाए गए समस्त पैर स्पष्ट कर दूंगा; मैं एक राजनेता की अभिवृत्ति उनकी उपस्थिति में प्रवेश करूंगा.)

I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

38 “यदि मेरा खेत मेरे विरुद्ध अपना स्वर ऊंचा करता है तथा कुंड मिलकर रोने लगते हैं,

If my land crieth against me, or its furrows likewise complain;

39 यदि मैंने बिना मूल्य चुकाए उपज का उपभोग किया हो अथवा मेरे कारण उसके स्वामियों ने अपने प्राण गंवाए हों,

If I have eaten the fruits of it without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

40 तो गेहूं के स्थान पर कांटे बढ़ने लगें तथा जौ के स्थान पर जंगली घास उग जाए.” यहां अय्योब का वचन समाप्‍त हो गया.

Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
