નીતિવચનો 8

1 ૧ શું ડહાપણ હાંક મારતું નથી? અને બુદ્ધિ પોકારતી નથી?

Doth not wisdom cry aloud, And understanding put forth her voice?

2 ૨ તે રસ્તાઓના સંગમ આગળ, માર્ગની એકબાજુ ઊંચા ચબુતરાઓની ટોચ પર ઊભું રહે છે.

Upon the top of the high places, By the wayside, In the cross-ways, She taketh her station.

3 ૩ અને શહેરમાં પ્રવેશવાના દરવાજા આગળ, અને બારણામાં પેસવાની જગ્યાએ, તે મોટે અવાજે પોકારે છે:

By the side of the gates, In the entrance of the city, In the approaches to the doors, she crieth aloud.

4 ૪ “હે માણસો, હું તમને પોકાર કરીને કહું છું મારું બોલવું પ્રત્યેક માણસને માટે છે.

“To you, O men! do I call, And my voice is to the sons of men!

5 ૫ હે અજ્ઞાની લોકો, શાણપણ શીખો અને હે મૂર્ખા તમે સમજણા થાઓ.

O ye simple ones! learn wisdom, And ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart!

6 ૬ સાંભળો, હું તમને ઉત્તમ વાતો કહેવાનો છું અને જે સાચું છે તે જ બાબતો વિષે મારું મુખ ઊઘડશે.

Hear, for I speak excellent things, And my lips utter that which is right.

7 ૭ મારું મુખ સત્ય ઉચ્ચારશે, મારા હોઠોને જૂઠાણું ધિક્કારપાત્ર લાગે છે.

For my mouth speaketh truth, And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 ૮ મારા મુખના સઘળા શબ્દો પ્રામાણિક છે, તેઓમાં કશું વાંકુ કે વિપરીત નથી.

All the words of my mouth are in uprightness; There is nothing crooked or deceitful in them;

9 ૯ સમજુ માણસો માટે મારા શબ્દો સ્પષ્ટ છે. અને જ્ઞાનીઓને માટે તે યથાયોગ્ય છે.

They are all plain to the man of understanding, And right to those who find knowledge.

10 ૧૦ ચાંદી નહિ પણ મારી સલાહ લો અને ચોખ્ખા સોના કરતાં ડહાપણ પ્રાપ્ત કરો.

Receive my instruction, and not silver. And knowledge rather than choice gold!

11 ૧૧ કારણ કે ડહાપણ રત્નો કરતાં વધારે મૂલ્યવાન છે; સર્વ મેળવવા ધારેલી વસ્તુઓ તેની બરાબરી કરી શકે નહિ.

For wisdom is better than pearls, And no precious things are to be compared with her.

12 ૧૨ મેં જ્ઞાને ચતુરાઈને પોતાનું રહેઠાણ બનાવ્યું છે, અને કૌશલ્ય અને વિવેકબુદ્ધિને હું શોધી કાઢું છું.

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out the knowledge of sagacious counsels.

13 ૧૩ યહોવાહનો ભય એટલે પાપને ધિક્કારવું, અભિમાન, ઉદ્ધતાઈ, દુષ્ટમાર્ગ અને અવળું બોલાનારાઓને હું ધિક્કારું છું.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, And the deceitful mouth, do I hate.

14 ૧૪ ડહાપણ તથા કૌશલ્ય મારાં છે; મારી પાસે ઊંડી સમજ અને શક્તિ છે.

Counsel is mine, and sound reason; I am understanding; I have strength.

15 ૧૫ મારા દ્વારા જ રાજાઓ રાજ કરે છે અને રાજકર્તાઓ ન્યાય ચૂકવે છે.

By me kings reign, And princes decree justice.

16 ૧૬ મારે લીધે રાજકુમારો શાસન કરે છે અને ઉમદા લોકો સાચો ચુકાદો આપે છે.

By me princes rule, And nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 ૧૭ મારા પર પ્રેમ રાખનારાઓ પર હું પ્રેમ રાખું છું; અને જેઓ મને ઉત્સુકતાથી શોધે છે તે મને પામે છે.

I love them that love me, And they who seek me early shall find me.

18 ૧૮ દ્રવ્ય તથા ડહાપણ મારી પાસે છે, મારી પાસે ટકાઉ સંપત્તિ અને સદાચાર છે.

Riches and honor are with me; Yea, durable riches and prosperity.

19 ૧૯ મારાં ફળ સોના કરતાં ચડિયાતાં છે, ચોખ્ખા સોના કરતાં અને મારી પેદાશ ઊંચી જાતની ચાંદી કરતાં શ્રેષ્ઠ છે.

My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold. And my revenue than choice silver.

20 ૨૦ હું સદાચારને માર્ગે ચાલું છું, મારો માર્ગ ન્યાયનો છે,

I walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of equity.

21 ૨૧ જેથી મારા પર પ્રેમ રાખનારને હું સમૃદ્ધિ આપી શકું અને તેઓના ભંડારો ભરપૂર કરી શકું.

I cause those who love me to possess substance; Yea, I fill their treasuries.

22 ૨૨ યહોવાહે સૃષ્ટિક્રમના આરંભમાં, આદિકૃત્યો અગાઉ મારું સર્જન કર્યુ.

“The LORD created me, the firstling of his course, Before his works, of old;

23 ૨૩ સદાકાળથી, આરંભથી, પૃથ્વીનું સર્જન થયા પહેલાં મને સ્થાપન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

I was anointed from everlasting, From the beginning, even before the earth was made.

24 ૨૪ જ્યારે કોઈ જળનિધિઓ ન હતા, જ્યારે પાણીથી ભરપૂર કોઈ ઝરણાંઓ ન હતાં ત્યારે મારો જન્મ થયો હતો.

When as yet there were no deeps, I was brought forth. When there were no springs, abounding with water.

25 ૨૫ પર્વતોના પાયા નંખાયા તે અગાઉ, ડુંગરો સર્જાયા તે પૂર્વે મારો જન્મ થયો હતો.

Before the mountains were settled, Yea, before the hills, I was brought forth;

26 ૨૬ ત્યાં સુધી યહોવાહે પૃથ્વી અને ખેતરો પણ સૃજ્યાં નહોતાં. અરે! ધૂળ પણ સૃજી નહોતી ત્યારે મારું અસ્તિત્વ હતું.

Ere yet he had made the land and the wastes, And the first of the clods of the earth.

27 ૨૭ જ્યારે તેમણે આકાશની સ્થાપના કરી, અને સાગર ઉપર ક્ષિતિજની ગોઠવણી કરી ત્યારે મારું અસ્તિત્વ હતું.

When he framed the heavens, I was there; When he drew a circle upon the face of the deep;

28 ૨૮ જ્યારે તેમણે ઊંચે અંતરિક્ષને સ્થિર કર્યુ; અને જળનીધિના ઝરણાં વહાવ્યાં.

When he made firm the sky above, And the fountains of the deep rushed forth;

29 ૨૯ જ્યારે તેમણે સાગરની હદ નિયુક્ત કરી અને તેની મર્યાદાનું ઉલ્લંઘન કરવાની તેમણે મના ફરમાવી. અને જ્યારે તેમણે પૃથ્વીના પાયા નાખ્યા.

When he gave to the sea its bounds, that the waters should not pass their border; When he marked out the foundations of the earth, —

30 ૩૦ ત્યારે કુશળ કારીગર તરીકે હું તેમની સાથે હતું; અને હું દિનપ્રતિદિન તેમને આનંદ આપતું હતું; અને સદા હું તેમની સમક્ષ હર્ષ કરતું હતું.

Then was I by him as a master-builder; I was his delight day by day, Exulting before him at all times;

31 ૩૧ તેમની વસતિવાળી પૃથ્વી પર હું હર્ષ પામતું હતું, અને માણસોની સંગતમાં મને આનંદ મળતો હતો.

Exulting in the habitable part of his earth, And my delight was with the sons of men.

32 ૩૨ મારા દીકરાઓ, મારું સાંભળો; કારણ કે મારા માર્ગોનો અમલ કરનાર આશીર્વાદિત છે.

“Now, therefore, ye children, hearken to me! For happy are they who keep my ways!

33 ૩૩ મારી શિખામણ સાંભળીને જ્ઞાની થા; અને તેની અવગણના કરીશ નહિ.

Hear instruction, and be wise! Yea, reject it not!

34 ૩૪ જે મારું સાંભળે છે તે વ્યક્તિ આશીર્વાદિત છે, અને હંમેશાં મારા દરવાજા સમક્ષ લક્ષ આપે છે; તથા મારા પ્રવેશદ્વાર આગળ મારી રાહ જુએ છે તે પણ આશીર્વાદિત છે.

Happy the man who hearkeneth to me, Who watcheth day by day at my gates, Who waiteth at the posts of my doors;

35 ૩૫ કારણ કે જેઓને હું મળું છું તેઓને જીવન મળે છે, તેઓ યહોવાહની કૃપા પામશે.

For he that findeth me findeth life, And obtaineth favor from the LORD;

36 ૩૬ પણ જે મારી સામે પાપ કરે છે, તે પોતાના આત્માને જ નુકશાન પહોંચાડે છે; જેઓ મને ધિક્કારે છે, તેઓ મૃત્યુના ચાહકો છે.”

But he who misseth me doeth violence to himself; All they who hate me love death.”
