1 Mũndũ ũrĩa ũikaraga omĩtie ngingo thuutha wa kũrũithio maita maingĩ, akaanangwo o rĩmwe, na aage kĩhonia.
A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man: for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.
2 Rĩrĩa andũ arĩa athingu matheerema, andũ nĩmakenaga; no rĩrĩa andũ arĩa aaganu maathana, andũ nĩgũcaaya macaayaga.
When the righteous are praised, the people will rejoice: but when the ungodly rule, men mourn.
3 Mũndũ ũrĩa wendete ũũgĩ atũũragia ithe na gĩkeno, no mũndũ ũrĩa ũceeraga na maraya nĩgũitanga aitangaga ũtonga wake.
When a man loves wisdom, his father rejoices: but he that keeps harlots will waste wealth.
4 Mũthamaki ũrĩ matuĩro ma kĩhooto aikaragia bũrũri ũrĩ mwĩkindĩru, no ũrĩa ũkorokagĩra mahaki nĩ kwananga awanangaga.
A righteous king establishes a country: but a transgressor destroys [it].
5 Mũndũ ũrĩa wĩyendithagĩrĩria harĩ mũndũ wa itũũra rĩake na maheeni, nĩ wabu aambagĩra magũrũ make.
He that prepares a net in the way of his own friend, entangles his own feet in it.
6 Mũndũ mwaganu ategagwo nĩ mehia make we mwene, no mũndũ mũthingu ainaga na agakena.
A great snare [is spread] for a sinner: but the righteous shall be in joy and gladness.
7 Andũ arĩa athingu nĩmamenyagĩrĩra kĩhooto kĩa arĩa athĩĩni, no arĩa aaganu matirũmbũyagia kĩhooto kĩao.
A righteous man knows how to judge for the poor: but the ungodly understands not knowledge; and the poor man has not an understanding mind.
8 Anyũrũrania matũmaga itũũra inene rĩrĩmbũke ta mwaki, no andũ oogĩ nĩkũniina maniinaga marakara.
Lawless men burn down a city: but wise men turn away wrath.
9 Mũndũ mũũgĩ angĩthiĩ igooti-inĩ na mũndũ mũkĩĩgu, mũndũ mũkĩĩgu arĩrĩmbũkaga nĩ marakara na akanyũrũrania, naguo thayũ ũkaaga.
A wise man shall judge nations: but a worthless man being angry laughs and fears not.
10 Andũ arĩa maitaga thakame nĩmathũire mũndũ mwĩhokeku, no andũ arĩa arũngĩrĩru macaragia ũrĩa mangĩtiirĩrĩra muoyo wake.
Bloody men hate a holy [person], but the upright will seek his soul.
11 Mũndũ mũkĩĩgu aitũrũraga marakara make mothe, no mũndũ mũũgĩ aikaraga amarigĩrĩirie, akahoorera.
A fool utters all is mind: but the wise reserves his in part.
12 Mũndũ ũrĩa wathanaga angĩthikĩrĩria maheeni-rĩ, anene ake othe matuĩkaga andũ aaganu.
When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors.
13 Mũndũ mũthĩĩni na mũndũ mũhinyanĩrĩria harĩ ũndũ ũmwe ũmahaananĩtie: Jehova nĩwe ũtũmaga maitho mao eerĩ moone.
When the creditor and debtor meet together, the Lord oversees them both.
14 Mũthamaki angĩtuĩra athĩĩni ciira na kĩhooto-rĩ, gĩtĩ gĩake kĩa ũnene gĩtũũraga kĩrũmĩte nginya tene.
When a king judges the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for a testimony.
15 Rũthanju na kũrũithio ciĩkagĩra mũndũ ũũgĩ, no mwana wa kũrekererio aconorithagia nyina.
Stripes and reproofs give wisdom: but an erring child disgraces his parents.
16 Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa andũ aaganu matheerema, noguo mehia matheeremaga, no andũ arĩa athingu nĩmakerorera igwa rĩao.
When the ungodly abound, sins abound: but when they fall, the righteous are warned.
17 Herithagia mũrũguo, na nĩagatũma ũgĩe na thayũ; nĩagatũma ũgĩe na gĩkeno ngoro-inĩ.
Chasten your son, and he shall give you rest; and he shall give honor to your soul.
18 Kũrĩa gũtarĩ na ũguũrio, kĩrĩndĩ gĩticookaga kwĩrigĩrĩria; no gũkena nĩ mũndũ ũrĩa ũrũmagia watho.
There shall be no interpreter to a sinful nation: but he that observes the law is blessed.
19 Ndungata ndĩngĩhera nĩ kwarĩrio gũtheri; o na ĩngĩtaũkĩrwo nĩ ũhoro ndĩngĩũrũmbũiya.
A stubborn servant will not be reproved by words: for even if he understands, still he will not obey.
20 Wanona mũndũ ũhiũhaga kwaria? Mũndũ mũkĩĩgu arĩ na kĩĩrĩgĩrĩro kũmũkĩra.
If you see a man hasty in [his] words, know that the fool has hope rather than he.
21 Mũndũ angĩnania ndungata yake kuuma wĩthĩ wayo, marigĩrĩrio-inĩ nĩĩkamũrehera kĩeha.
He that lives wantonly from a child, shall be a servant, and in the end shall grieve over himself.
22 Mũndũ wa marakara aarahũraga ngarari, nake mũndũ wa marũrũ agĩĩaga na mehia maingĩ.
A furious man stirs up strife, and a passionate man digs up sin.
23 Mwĩtĩĩo wa mũndũ nĩũmũnyiihagia, no mũndũ ũrĩa wa ngoro ya kwĩnyiihia nĩagatĩĩo.
Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honor.
24 Mũndũ wa kũgĩa thiritũ na mũici nĩ muoyo wake mwene athũire; ehĩtithagio na ndangĩruta ũira.
He that shares with a thief, hates his own soul: and if any having heard an oath uttered tell not of it,
25 Gwĩtigĩra mũndũ gũtuĩkaga mũtego, no ũrĩa wĩhokaga Jehova aikaraga arĩ mũgitĩre.
[they] fearing and reverencing men [unreasonably] have been overthrown, but he that trusts in the Lord shall rejoice. Ungodliness causes a man to stumble: but he that trusts in his master shall be safe.
26 Andũ aingĩ nĩmacaragia kũiguuo nĩ mũnene, no mũndũ oonaga kĩhooto kuuma kũrĩ Jehova.
Many wait on the favor of rulers; but justice comes to a man from the Lord.
27 Andũ arĩa athingu monaga andũ arĩa matarĩ ehokeku ta kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi; nao andũ arĩa aaganu moonaga andũ arĩa arũngĩrĩru ta kĩndũ kĩrĩ magigi.
A righteous man is an abomination to an unrighteous man, and the direct way is an abomination to the sinner.
