Now this is the history of the descendants of Aaron and Moses when Yahweh spoke with Moses on Mount Sinai.
2 Marĩĩtwa ma ariũ a Harũni maarĩ Nadabu ũrĩa warĩ irigithathi, na Abihu, na Eleazaru, na Ithamaru.
The names of Aaron's sons were Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
3 Macio nĩmo marĩĩtwa ma ariũ a Harũni, nao maarĩ athĩnjĩri-Ngai aitĩrĩrie maguta, arĩa maamũrĩtwo matungatage marĩ athĩnjĩri-Ngai.
These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed and who were ordained to serve as priests.
4 Na rĩrĩ, Nadabu na Abihu nĩmakuire marĩ mbere ya Jehova rĩrĩa maarutaga igongona na mwaki ũtarĩ mwĩtĩkĩrie mbere yake Werũ-inĩ wa Sinai. Matiarĩ na ciana cia aanake; nĩ ũndũ ũcio, Eleazaru na Ithamaru nĩo maatungataga marĩ athĩnjĩri-Ngai hĩndĩ ĩrĩa yothe ithe wao Harũni aarĩ muoyo.
But Nadab and Abihu fell dead before Yahweh when they offered to him unacceptable fire in the wilderness of Sinai. Nadab and Abihu had no children, so just Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests with Aaron their father.
5 Nake Jehova akĩĩra Musa atĩrĩ,
Yahweh spoke to Moses. He said,

“Bring the tribe of Levi and present them to Aaron the priest for them to help him.

They must perform the duties on behalf of Aaron and the whole community before the tent of meeting. They must serve in the tabernacle.
8 Nao marĩmenyagĩrĩra indo ciothe cia Hema-ya-Gũtũnganwo, mahingagie maũndũ marĩa magĩrĩire nĩ gwĩkwo nĩ andũ a Isiraeli na ũndũ wa kũruta wĩra wa hema ĩyo.
They must care for all the furnishings in the tent of meeting, and they must help the tribes of Israel to carry out the tabernacle service.
9 Neana Alawii acio kũrĩ Harũni na ariũ ake; nĩo andũ a Isiraeli arĩa mekũneanwo kũrĩ we biũ.
You must give the Levites to Aaron and his sons. They are wholly given to help him serve the people of Israel.
10 Amũra Harũni na ariũ ake matungatage marĩ athĩnjĩri-Ngai; mũndũ ũngĩ o wothe ũrĩa ũrĩkuhagĩrĩria harĩa haamũre no nginya ooragwo.”
You must appoint Aaron and his sons as priests, but any foreigner who comes near must be put to death.”
11 Ningĩ Jehova akĩĩra Musa atĩrĩ,
Yahweh spoke to Moses. He said,
12 “Niĩ nĩ niĩ thuurĩte Alawii kuuma kũrĩ andũ a Isiraeli ithenya rĩa marigithathi ma arũme arĩa marigithathĩtwo nĩ andũ-a-nja othe a Isiraeli. Alawii nĩ akwa,
“Look, I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel. I have done this instead of taking each firstborn male who is born among the people of Israel. The Levites belong to me.
13 nĩgũkorwo marigithathi mothe nĩ makwa. Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa ndooragire marigithathi mothe ma Misiri, noguo ndeyamũrĩire marigithathi mothe ma Isiraeli, marĩ ma mũndũ kana ma nyamũ. Macio nĩ makwa kĩũmbe. Niĩ nĩ niĩ Jehova.”
All the firstborn belong to me. On the day that I attacked all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I set apart for myself all the firstborn in Israel, both people and animals. They belong to me. I am Yahweh.”
14 Ningĩ Jehova akĩĩra Musa kũu Werũ-inĩ wa Sinai atĩrĩ,
Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai. He said,
15 “Tara Alawii kũringana na nyũmba ciao na mbarĩ ciao. Tara arũme othe arĩa makinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria.”
“Count the descendants of Levi in each family, in their clans. Count every male who is one month old and older.”
16 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio, Musa akĩmatara o ta ũrĩa aathĩtwo nĩ kiugo kĩa Jehova.
Moses counted them, following the word of Yahweh, just as he was commanded to do.
17 Maya nĩmo marĩĩtwa ma ariũ a Lawi: Nĩ Gerishoni, na Kohathu, na Merari.
The names of Levi's sons were Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
18 Maya nĩmo marĩĩtwa ma mbarĩ cia Agerishoni: Nĩ Libini na Shimei.
The clans coming from Gershon's sons were Libni and Shimei.
19 Mbarĩ cia Akohathu ciarĩ: Amuramu, na Iziharu na Hebironi, na Uzieli.
The clans coming from Kohath's sons were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.

The clans coming from Merari's sons were Mahli and Mushi. These are the clans of the Levites, listed clan by clan.

The clans of the Libnites and the Shimeites come from Gershon. These are the clans of the Gershonites.

All the males from a month old and older were counted, totaling 7,500.

The clans of the Gershonites must camp on the west side of the tabernacle.

Eliasaph son of Lael must lead the clans of the descendants of the Gershonites.
25 Hau Hema-inĩ-ya-Gũtũnganwo-rĩ, Agerishoni nĩo maarĩ na wĩra wa kũmenyerera Hema-ĩyo-Nyamũre na hema, na ciandarũa cia kũmĩhumbĩra, na gĩtambaya gĩa gũcuurio itoonyero rĩa Hema-ya-Gũtũnganwo,
The family of Gershon must care for the tent of meeting including the tabernacle. They must care for the tent, its covering, and the curtain used as the entrance to the tent of meeting.
26 na itambaya cia gũcuurio cia kũirigĩra nja, na gĩtambaya gĩa gũcuurio gĩa itoonyero rĩa nja ĩrĩa ĩthiũrũkĩirie Hema ĩyo nyamũre na kĩgongona na mĩhĩndo, na indo ciothe iria ikonainie na wĩra wacio.
They must care for the courtyard hangings, the curtain at the courtyard entrance—the courtyard that surrounds the sanctuary and the altar. They must care for the ropes of the tent of meeting and for everything in it.
27 Kohathu aarĩ na mbarĩ cia Aamuramu, na Aiziharu, na Ahebironi, na Auzieli; icio nĩcio ciarĩ mbarĩ cia Akohathu.
These clans come from Kohath: the clan of the Amramites, the clan of the Izharites, the clan of the Hebronites, and the clan of the Uzzielites. These clans belong to the Kohathites.
28 Arũme arĩa othe maakinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria maarĩ andũ 8,600. Wĩra wa Akohathu warĩ wa kũmenyerera harĩa haamũre.
8,600 males have been counted aged one month old and older to take care of the things that belong to Yahweh.
29 Mbarĩ cia Akohathu ciarĩ ciambage hema mwena wa gũthini wa Hema-ĩrĩa-Nyamũre.
The Kohath clans must camp on the south side of the tabernacle.
30 Mũtongoria wa nyũmba cia mbarĩ cia Akohathu aarĩ Elizafani mũrũ wa Uzieli.
Elizaphan son of Uzziel must lead the clans of the Kohathites.
31 Wĩra wao warĩ wa kũmenyerera ithandũkũ rĩa kĩrĩkanĩro, na metha, na mũtĩ ũrĩa wa kũigĩrĩrwo matawa, na igongona, na indo cia gũtũmĩrwo harĩa haamũre, na gĩtambaya gĩa gũcuurio gĩa kũhakania, o na indo ciothe ciakonainie na mũhũthĩrĩre wacio.
They must care for the ark, the table, the lampstand, the altars, the holy things that are used in their service, the curtain, and all the work around it.
32 Mũtongoria mũnene wa Alawii aarĩ Eleazaru mũrũ wa Harũni, ũrĩa mũthĩnjĩri-Ngai. Nĩwe watuirwo mũrũgamĩrĩri wa arĩa maamenyagĩrĩra harĩa haamũre.
Eleazar son of Aaron the priest must lead the men who lead the Levites. He must supervise the men who care for the holy place.
33 Merari aarĩ na mbarĩ cia Amahali na Amushi; icio nĩcio ciarĩ mbarĩ cia Merari.
Two clans have come from Merari: the clan of the Mahlites and the clan of the Mushites. These clans have come from Merari.
34 Arũme arĩa othe maatarirwo arĩa maakinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria maarĩ andũ 6,200.
6,200 males have been counted aged one month old and older.
35 Mũtongoria wa nyũmba cia mbarĩ ya Merari aarĩ Zurieli mũrũ wa Abihaili; nao maarĩ maambage hema mwena wa gathigathini wa Hema-ĩrĩa-Nyamũre.
Zuriel son of Abihail must lead the clans of Merari. They must camp on the north side of the tabernacle.
36 Amerari maamũrirwo mamenyagĩrĩre buremu ya hema ĩrĩa yaamũrĩtwo, na mĩgĩĩko yayo, na itugĩ, na itina ciacio, o na indo ciothe ciayo cia wĩra, na indo ciothe ciakonainie na mũhũthĩrĩre wacio,
The descendants of Merari must care for the framing of the tabernacle, the crossbars, posts, bases, all the hardware, and everything related to them, including
37 o na mamenyagĩrĩre itugĩ iria ciirigĩte nja yayo hamwe na itina ciacio, na higĩ cia hema na mĩhĩĩndo yayo.
the pillars and posts of the courtyard that surround the tabernacle, with their sockets, pegs, and ropes.
38 Musa na Harũni na ariũ ake maarĩ mambage hema ciao mwena wa irathĩro wa Hema-ĩyo-Nyamũre, mangʼetheire irathĩro, o hau mbere ya Hema-ya-Gũtũnganwo. Wĩra wao warĩ wa kũmenyerera harĩa haamũre ithenya rĩa andũ a Isiraeli. Mũndũ ũngĩ o wothe ũngĩakuhĩrĩirie hau haamũre aarĩ ooragwo.
Moses and Aaron and his sons must camp on the east side of the tabernacle, in front of the tent of meeting, toward the sunrise. They are responsible for the fulfillment of the duties of the sanctuary and the duties of the people of Israel. Any foreigner who approaches the sanctuary must be put to death.
39 Alawii arĩa othe maatarirwo ta ũrĩa Jehova aathĩte Musa na Harũni kũringana na mbarĩ ciao, hamwe na arũme othe arĩa maakinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria, maarĩ andũ 22,000.
Moses and Aaron counted all the males in the clans of Levi who were aged one month old and older, just as Yahweh commanded. They counted twenty-two thousand men.
40 Nake Jehova akĩĩra Musa atĩrĩ, “Tara marigithathi ma arũme othe ma andũ a Isiraeli arĩa makinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria, na wandĩke marĩĩtwa mao.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Count all the firstborn males of the people of Israel who are aged one month old and older. List their names.
41 Nyamũrĩra Alawii handũ ha marigithathi mothe ma andũ a Isiraeli; o naguo ũhiũ wa Alawii ũwaamũre handũ ha marigithathi mothe ma mahiũ ma andũ a Isiraeli. Niĩ nĩ niĩ Jehova.”
You must take the Levites for me—I am Yahweh—instead of all the firstborn of the people of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of the firstborn of the livestock of the descendants of Israel.”
42 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Musa agĩtara marigithathi mothe ma andũ a Isiraeli, o ta ũrĩa Jehova aamwathĩte.
Moses counted all the firstborn people of Israel as Yahweh had commanded him to do.
43 Marigithathi mothe ma arũme arĩa maakinyĩtie mweri ũmwe na makĩria, maandĩkwo na marĩĩtwa mao, maarĩ andũ 22,273.
He counted all the firstborn males by name, aged one month old and older. He counted 22,273 men.
44 Ningĩ Jehova akĩĩra Musa atĩrĩ,
Again, Yahweh spoke to Moses. He said,
45 “Amũra Alawii handũ ha marigithathi mothe ma andũ a Isiraeli, naguo ũhiũ wa Alawii ũwaamũre handũ ha mahiũ mao. Alawii megũtuĩka akwa. Niĩ nĩ niĩ Jehova.
“Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and take the Levites' livestock instead of the people's livestock. The Levites belong to me—I am Yahweh.
46 Gũkũũra marigithathi macio 273 ma andũ a Isiraeli, acio makĩrĩte mũigana wa Alawii-rĩ,
You must collect five shekels for the redemption of each of the 273 firstborn people of Israel who exceed the number of the Levites.
47 oya cekeri ithano irũgamĩrĩre o mũndũ, kũringana na cekeri ya handũ-harĩa-haamũre, ĩrĩa ũritũ wayo ũrĩ gera mĩrongo ĩĩrĩ.
You must use the shekel of the sanctuary as your standard weight. The shekel equals twenty gerahs.
48 Mbeeca icio cia gũkũũra andũ a Isiraeli acio makĩrĩte-rĩ, cinengere Harũni na ariũ ake.”
You must give the price of redemption that you paid to Aaron and his sons.”
49 Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Musa akĩũngania mbeeca cia gũkũũra andũ acio maakĩrĩte mũigana wa andũ arĩa maakũũrĩtwo nĩ Alawii.
So Moses collected the payment of redemption from those who exceeded the number of those redeemed by the Levites.
50 Kuuma kũrĩ marigithathi ma andũ a Isiraeli, akĩũngania betha ya ũritũ wa cekeri 1,365 kũringana na cekeri ya handũ-harĩa-haamũre.
Moses collected the money from the firstborn of the people of Israel. He collected 1,365 shekels, weighing with the shekel of the sanctuary.
51 Musa akĩnengera Harũni na ariũ ake mbeeca icio ciakũũrĩte andũ, o ta ũrĩa aathĩtwo nĩ kiugo kĩa Jehova.
Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and to his sons. Moses did everything he was told to do by Yahweh's word, as Yahweh had commanded him.
