Psalm 20

1 Dem Sangmeister. Ein Psalm Davids. Jehovah antworte dir am Tage der Drangsal! Der Name des Gottes Jakobs hebe dich empor!

To the Overseer. — A Psalm of David. Jehovah doth answer thee, In a day of adversity, The name of the God of Jacob doth set thee on high,

2 Er sende dir Beistand aus dem Heiligtum, und unterstütze dich aus Zion!

He doth send thy help from the sanctuary, And from Zion doth support thee,

3 Er gedenke aller deiner Speiseopfer, und dein Brandopfer sei fett. (Selah)

He doth remember all thy presents, And thy burnt-offering doth reduce to ashes. (Selah)

4 Er gebe dir nach deinem Herzen, und erfülle alle deine Ratschläge.

He doth give to thee according to thy heart, And all thy counsel doth fulfil.

5 Lobsingen wollen wir ob Deines Heils, und das Banner erheben im Namen unseres Gottes. Jehovah erfülle dir all deine Bitte.

We sing of thy salvation, And in the name of our God set up a banner. Jehovah doth fulfil all thy requests.

6 Nun erkenne ich, daß Jehovah Seinen Gesalbten rettet, daß Er ihm antwortet aus den Himmeln Seiner Heiligkeit, durch die Machttaten des Heils Seiner Rechten.

Now I have known That Jehovah hath saved His anointed, He answereth him from His holy heavens, With the saving might of His right hand.

7 Diese gedenken der Streitwagen und jene der Rosse, wir aber des Namens Jehovahs, unseres Gottes.

Some of chariots, and some of horses, And we of the name of Jehovah our God Make mention.

8 Jene krümmen sich und fallen, wir aber machen uns auf und stehen fest.

They — they have bowed and have fallen, And we have risen and station ourselves upright.

9 Jehovah, rette! Der König antworte uns am Tage, da wir rufen.

O Jehovah, save the king, He doth answer us in the day we call!
