Psalm 56

1 Dem Vorsänger. «Von der stummen Taube unter den Fremden.» Eine Denkschrift Davids; als ihn die Philister ergriffen zu Gat. O Gott, sei mir gnädig; denn es schnaubt ein Mensch wider mich, immerfort bekriegt und bedrängt er mich!

To the chief music-maker; put to Jonath elem rehokim. Of David. Michtam. When the Philistines took him in Gath. Have mercy on me, O God, for man is attempting my destruction; every day he makes cruel attacks against me.

2 Meine Widersacher schnauben den ganzen Tag, ja viele Hohe streiten wider mich.

My haters are ever ready to put an end to me; great numbers are lifting themselves up against me.

3 Wenn mir angst ist, vertraue ich auf dich!

In the time of my fear, I will have faith in you.

4 In Gott will ich rühmen sein Wort; auf Gott vertraue ich und habe keine Furcht; was kann Fleisch mir antun?

In God will I give praise to his word; in God have I put my hope; I will have no fear of what flesh may do to me.

5 Täglich lauern sie auf meine Worte, auf mein Unglück gehen alle ihre Gedanken;

Every day they make wrong use of my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

6 sie rotten sich zusammen, lauschen im Verborgenen, beobachten meine Tritte und lauern auf mein Leben.

They come together, they are waiting in secret places, they take note of my steps, they are waiting for my soul.

7 Sollten sie bei ihrer Bosheit entrinnen? O Gott, stürze die Völker im Zorn!

By evil-doing they will not get free from punishment. In wrath, O God, let the peoples be made low.

8 Du zählst, wie oft ich fliehen muß; sammle meine Tränen in deinen Schlauch! Stehen sie nicht in deinem Buch?

You have seen my wanderings; put the drops from my eyes into your bottle; are they not in your record?

9 Am Tage, da ich rufe, weichen meine Feinde zurück; das weiß ich, daß Gott für mich ist.

When I send up my cry to you, my haters will be turned back; I am certain of this, for God is with me.

10 In Gott will ich rühmen das Wort, im HERRN will ich rühmen das Wort;

In God will I give praise to his word; in the Lord will I give praise to his word.

11 auf Gott vertraue ich und habe keine Furcht; was kann ein Mensch mir antun?

In God have I put my hope, I will have no fear of what man may do to me.

12 Die Gelübde, die ich dir, o Gott, gelobt, liegen auf mir; ich will dir Dankopfer bezahlen!

I keep the memory of my debt to you, O God; I will give you the offerings of praise.

13 Denn hast du nicht meine Seele vom Tode errettet, meine Füße vom Gleiten, damit ich vor Gottes Angesicht wandle im Lichte des Lebens?

Because you have taken my soul from the power of death; and kept my feet from falling, so that I may be walking before God in the light of life.
